I would recommend Blackfriars to anyone. the rooms are located above the restaurant/bar. the bed/bathroom was super spacious, clean, comfy and had great views. Only reason I gave a 9 instead of 10 on some was because there was no A/C, and it so happened to be unusually warm while we were there. HOWEVER, a fan was already provided for us and the windows were open. The staff was absolutely amazing. Dean helped serve us for breakfast. He was so funny and helpful. he gave us useful tips for things we asked questions about and even topped off our water bottles with fresh water and ice before hitting the road to Stromness. In addition to how wonderful the place is, it is just a short walk to Leakey’s book shop and The River Ness. Highly recommend!

We loved our stay at Blackfriars! The staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to be helpful. The downstairs is a bar and restaurant, with lovely drinks and food. Upstairs the rooms were quiet with no noise from below. We had a lovely room, with a big bathroom with a freestanding rolltop bath, with bubble bath and bath ducks provided! The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was included, and had generous portions. We were travelling by train, and Blackfriars is only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the station. We will definitely stay there again if we are up that way.

Breakfast was very good and suitable for vegans. The room was fabulous as was the French bath which I sorely needed after a cycling event! It was a five minute walk from my destination so location was pretty good. Staff were very helpful. There was a basket of Scottish goodies in the room - an excellent treat if you can eat them. I’d highly recommend this hotel.

A band playing in the pub right underneath the bedroom, the night before an event I had to get up at 4am and cycle 70 miles for wasn’t very good. Also the basket of goodies contained nothing I could eat, not even the crisps which was sad. Everything contained dairy produce and weren’t there was nothing suitable for a vegan even though I stated almost a year in advance that I was a vegan. This is a very minor grumble as the basket was completely unexpected. I couldn’t use most of the coffee pods either because they’d milk in them. Attention to small details like this would be wonderful!

Comfortable bed, very glad I had 105 because it was only one flight of stairs with luggage! The bathroom was great with space for stuff, heated towel racks and a fantastic hot and good pressure shower. Having a desk and provided with cookies and shortbread and bottled water was a plus. The wardrobe was good with hangers and space for my luggage too I also had the breakfast included and it was yummy, allowing me to taste the haggis and black pudding. Loved the location, less than 5 min from trains, 2 min from bus station for my tour. So close to things like Leakey's and other places to visit. Everyone was so lovely and helpful too. Thank you :)

I thought I read there would be a safe deposit box but I couldn't find it? I could hear people walking upstairs and doors and noises next door but it was expected when I read, so I'd prepared with some earplugs.

Easy walking distance from railway station. Clean and bright staircase to rooms. Clean, well decorated rooms with well-maintained decor and quality fittings. Complimentary water, and bathroom requisites. Helpful staff.

Two rooms booked for two people - one in quiet location at the rear of the hotel, one at the front of the hotel facing onto a very busy main street - a request for quiet rooms only partially met. Large fixed shower heads pouring water directly onto the head of the bather unacceptable for women - no alternative smaller, hand-held showerhead to use avoid wetting hair - unable to use.

Absolutely delightful room. Really really nicely done out and extremely comfortable. Everything you could need including a big bathtub complete with rubber ducks! Bed soooo comfy and TV is massive and really good quality. Lighting is so warm and cosy

Almost gave a 10 but for the noisy radiators! Had to listen to what sounded like boiling kettles all night long which led to a rather broken sleep. Turned our bathroom radiator off at 1am but could hear them in other rooms too... very annoying and a shame as otherwise its a ridiculously good stay! It was so hot upstairs too the heating really didn't need to be on so full whack in all the rooms.

We stayed in room 101 and we loved it. The decor. the bath, the comfortable bed and especially the staff who were all wonderful. Our room had two large windows looking on to the city street In front which was great for watching the world go by. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We parked two minutes away at Rose Street multi storey car park which only costs £7 for 24 hours, terrific value for money! The Black friars is very close to the bus station and train station and all the services/shops that Inverness has to offer. I was awake early and took a 3 minute walk up to the train station for a paper and a Costa coffee as they are open at 6am. I should say there is a complimentary tea/coffee tray in the bedroom.

It is a very short walk to the train station! Room was comfortable. The restaurant downstairs is excellent- food was delicious and great atmosphere!

The only contact with staff was when we picked up the key from the waitress at the restaurant so if there were any problems or special needs there is nobody to assist. Also, this restaurant (and most within walking distance) are short staffed so you have to have a reservation or be prepared to wait til 9pm to eat.

Lovely decorated and spotlessly clean room with lovely little touches like bottles of water and shortbread, also tea/coffee making facilities. Bed was very comfortable and although in the City centre was very quiet, room 201 . The breakfast was amazing and fantastic service from Neve . We met family for dinner and the food was delicious and service was faultless . Would highly recommend and definitely be back . A very friendly and welcoming hotel and restaurant, thanks Dean and team .

what’s not to like

Excellent location with a short walk from the train station. Restaurant below was lovely and very convenient. We were able to store luggage prior to check-in which allowed us to tour the town easier. Rooms were very comfortable and quiet.

Must be able to do stairs as there is no lift and bedrooms are located one and two flights upstairs. We knew that prior to booking and was not an issue for us.
