Perfect location for heading to Pickering and catching the steam train to Whitby. We had originally booked the old lodgings (which is their accommodation down the road) upon arrival we were offered an upgrade at no extra cost to stay in the main building, but hi h was brilliant. Room plenty big enough and spacious bathroom too.
It’s not a don’t like, but the building is obviously very old and holds a lot of character. There were a few damp patches on the ceiling and the room had an old musty smell. This honestly wouldn’t put me off staying again and play on booking for this coming June for York races!

Beautiful place, very quiet peaceful venue with gorgeous gardens and amazingly luxurious rooms. My fiancée and I had the best sleep ever! The staff are amazingly helpful too - you can order flowers, chocolates and champagne ahead of your visit if you email them and they'll happily ensure it's all ready and waiting for your arrival. As for food: the dinner menu seems to change each month so the menu on their website isnt accurate anymore, and the options are limited but that clearly allows them to focus on making each dish perfect because our meals were absolutely delicious. Also their selection of alcohol is fantastic - my fiancée and I now have a new favourite wine and gin!
Zero complaints, it was a perfect stay.

Location excellent for Malton town centre, York and nearby attractions. Age of the building. Good food, (we had salmon, steak and the roast of the day)) great breakfast menu, and ambience. Cosy feel to the public rooms. Ground floor bedroom and separate sitting room great for mobility impaired. Good parking on site and spacious garden to enjoy. Have stayed twice and will again.
The lack of basic maintenance in our room. Just needed an extra push to make it super. Odd cobweb and a tear in the curtain...that sort of thing.

We arrived on Friday at the main old lodge hotel, On arrival on the Friday the lady on reception was very helpful, I explained Sunday we would be checking out and moving down to the old lodge as I’d booked an extra night and my partner had booked the original stay at the main hotel. She was very kind and said no need to move we will match the price and you can keep you room in the main hotel. The room was very pleasant the bathroom was huge!
The room as nice as it was could do with some decorating there was some mould around the windows and in the bathroom but understanding this is an old property The bathroom was massive but almost a seperate toilet in there without a door I think a door would be a nice add

Dinner was a bit of a disaster, ordered bread, tomato and garlic as a sharing starter, got a pizza, not what we expected. I ordered fish and chips, however the the batter was undercooked. Husband ordered a burger, which was a stack, but the bacon in the stack was undercooked. Breakfast was OK, but a bit bland, some might say there's not a lot you can do with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, but there is. There was fresh fruit, but no jug of cold water. However the room was very comfortable, and we will probably stay here again, just go out for dinner.
Evening meal, as above.

I loved everything, the Lodge is stunning, very well appointed rooms, plenty of luxurious towels and a bathrobe for each guest. The food is superb, beautifully presented, the chef is excellent, the wait staff are attentive without being intrusive and deliver your food with a smile, in my opinion the restaurant deserves a gold star. The Bar is comfortable and cosy with an imposing open fireplace, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The grounds surrounding the Lodge are beautiful and vast, making this the perfect wedding destination.
There isn't anything I didn't like, I couldn't fault it.

The grounds and buildings are marvellous. The rooms we stayed in were all grand and extremely spacious. We was in room 2 but had a problem and the staff moved us to room 9 which was gorgeous, they then offered us free upgrade to room 7 on the 2nd night and they moved our bags for us. Room 7 was even more stunning than room 9. The staff were excellent, and all of the ladies went above and beyond to ensure our stay was the best. It was extremely warm in the rooms, the beds and bedding were good quality, and we really loved staying here despite the start.
There wasn't any water provided in the room, only one biscuit for 2 guests. No complimentary slippers or only 1 dressing gowns in room 9, and for the price, I expected that the towels and toilet paper would have been better quality. The butter at breakfast had been cross contaminated with something and tasted like garlic or spices. The chandeliers had lots of cobwebs and dust on them but could be rectified by a long duster and a deep clean.

Staff were fabulous, especially when we arrived late, just before dinner service ended, and they made sure we could get something (delicious) to eat. Breakfast was ample, hot food freshly cooked, and we were able to tweak our orders. Setting was gorgeous, our room was spacious and comfortable, indoor and outdoor public spaces were welcoming!
Hard to find anything negative! Small quibble - I’d have smaller, easily pealable clementines rather than intimidatingly large oranges at breakfast.

Beautiful building, great location, very comfortable. My autistic son and I ended up staying here in unexpectedly due to my car breaking down. We turned up tired and both rather frazzled for different reasons. Beth on reception was amazing, she incredibly friendly and helpful and was even able to engage my son; she listened and showed interest in the information he told her. The restaurant had stopped serving by the time we got there and Beth helped us find food to order and then brought it to our room when it arrived. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and despite it being cold, I was lovely and warm. The bathroom was clean and the shower was excellent and hot.
The room could have been a little warmer but that’s about it.

We had a feature room which was furnished in period style and was right up our street. the four poster bed was very comfortable, the tea ,coffee and biscuits were good, the views from the room were beautiful. the bathroom was spacious and clean. the receptionist was brilliant, she was so friendly and informative and actually really enhanced the stay. we did not eat at the hotel so cant comment on food. the building and surroundings were lovely, lots of wildlife.
