The staff was amazing from the moment of checkin until checkout. Our waiter! turned on the heat in one of our rooms and searched for a portable heater for our other room when an unexpected cold rain came up (all while serving the diners). On the morning of departure, staff prepared an early breakfast for us and then wouldn’t accept payment. The rooms were cozy and well appointed, bathroom was beautiful and the food was varied and delicious.

There really wasn’t anything to dislike. Some of the rooms in the old building are up a winding, narrow stairway - it’s an old building and should be expected.

Loved EVERYTHING about my stay, and only wish it had been longer! The staff were amazing; the room fabulous, and I really appreciated the bath after a long day of driving! It seriously is worth staying there - great value for such a gem of a hotel. Couldn't have asked for more Plus a great dinner downstairs after having taken the manager's advice for lunch - a very pleasant 10-15 minute drive to a fab pub on the river. So not only was lunch amazing as was the location of the pub, but dinner was fabulous. I LOVED my stay!!

Nothing - it was all wonderful from the moment I arrived

The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. Everything was very clean, and my husband and I were really happy with the facilities. It was quiet too so we got a good sleep in a comfy bed. We've not been away for a long time and so it all felt very special. We had dinner and had booked a table in advance, the menu was nice and varied with some good veggie options for me. Service was great, staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. We also had breakfast included, again really happy with the food and the choice. We went for a long walk in the evening around the nature reserve and river, just beautiful in the warm spring weather. Overall, we loved our mini-break and would come again!

this is really nice place to stay. friendly staff nice food. we usually stay in the new part of the building and this time we stayed in the cottage outside. I’m afraid we prefer the old part of building we had a few issues with the cottage one been we were above the cellar and you got a constant humming noise all night from the cooling system. then the tv wouldn’t work properly had to turn on and of at wall and kept pixelating which was so annoying. food is still very good but need to learn how to make girlie puds because I’m afraid the one I had was like leather it was so hard it crumbled like a biscuit.

the cooling system for cellar going all night the tv not working properly and the Yorkshire pud everything else was fine. I did mention the Lack of sleep because of the cooling system and the tv and he did say next time we could have a free meal on them .

The breakfasts were cooked beautifully and the portions were generous. You order à la carte. Helpful to have the 8 to 11 am serving period. Very healthy options. Proper espressos and cappuccinos were served, with refills available. We took our coffee into the old inn to sit by the fire. Our room (in the annexe, accessed by an outdoor staircase) was quiet and designed to be restful and soothing. Comfortable king-size bed with immaculate bed linen. The bathroom was warm and stylish and everything worked perfectly. We ordered dinner on 3 nights and a takeaway on the 4th (when there was a good film on TV). We liked the comfortable booth seating near the main bar area. We had mainly fish and vegetarian main courses, and also sampled starters and small plates. On the whole, very good and good value for money.. It was nice to come back from a day’s winter sightseeing in Oxford and settle in, without going out again to hunt for an evening meal. Cumnor is a delightful village. Picturesque, quiet, but offering great transport links. Use the 33 or S9 bus services into Oxford or leave the car at the Park and Rise at Seacourt. Only £5 per couple for all-day parking + return travel into the city. The village has a little post office and general stores about 300 yards from The Bear. There is a primary school, a village church and a cricket club. The best thing about The Bear? Its wonderful old inn atmosphere and welcome. The staff were hard-working, attentive and very concerned when I had an accidental injury to my face on the stairs one supper time. They brought lots of ice to reduce the swelling and couldn’t have been more kind. We hope to stay at The Bear again.

Can’t think of anything. We would like to visit again.

We like everything the staff were really friendly and would answer any questions and would go out there way to help.the room was spotles lovely and warm clean and comfortable bed facilities were very good had everything we needed. The food in the restaurant was excellent spotless. All I can say is keep up the good work and we will definitely see you again...Joe and maxine xx👍🙂🙂

Nothing really. It's a beautiful old building so you here people walking around the floors creaking. But that's understandable. We had a small problem with the TV but I used my fire stick.so no problem watching the TV..

Gorgeous property with so much character and charm. Beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms and the restaurant and bar were a highlight. It was fabulous to gather there everyday for a sumptuous breakfast and again in the evenings for dinner. The beer garden was delightful. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would happily return

The lack of aircon could be a problem in warmer weather

The host and staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. I visited with my elderly parents and young child and they did everything to help make us comfortable. The rooms were amazing, warm and clean. The bathrooms where 5* also, such a treat. Tea and coffee-making facilities were a bonus in the room. The pub had a conservatory area which we used in the morning to have breakfast and spread out, we could even get coffee before 8am when breakfast was served which was so kind. Overall a wonderful experience and I would recommend.

Really loved this pub with bed & breakfast. Our room was huge and full of character with a massive comfy bed, arm chairs, fan, loads of tea, coffee and fresh milk if you want it. The stairs up to the room are definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility problems but this is made clear before booking. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was very good with lots of choice. Definitely worth a visit!

Nothing, all good!

We booked this as an alternative to staying in Oxford & definitely made the right decision. Only a short drive from Oxford, we found it easily in a tiny village. There are 9 rooms, we stayed in room 2 which was exceptional. The decor was adorable with a gorgeous bathroom with sustainable refillable toiletries. Cleanliness was 5*. Good standard options for teas, coffee (Taylor’s bags…my favourites), hot chocolate & cookies. Staff were very helpful, we arrived earlier than expected & had a table booked for 5.15 & there was no problem eating an hour earlier. The dining area was impressive as was the 3 course Sunday lunch. We both had pork which was stunning, definitely one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve ever eaten out. The passion fruit & chocolate dessert was recommended & was glorious. The bar had such lovely character and we enjoyed a few tipples there after our meal! We’d booked bed & breakfast through Booking.com & again breakfast was delicious, served from an extensive menu which was much nicer than buffet style. We will 100% return to Bear & Ragged Staff, particularly in Spring & Summer as the outside seating areas looked lovely. Thank you for a very pleasurable evening.

There was nothing we didn’t like but as a tip the power point in room 2 was a long way from the mirror, even though the hairdryer had a spiral cord it was difficult to stretch it as far as the mirror. Next time we stay I’ll pop mine in my bag as it has a nice long cord.
