It was a perfect location for the venue and amenities, within a short walk. The bed was comfortable and nicely laid out. The entrance was at the rear of the property so there was no need to keep going through the bar entrance. We had a twin room facing a busy street but could not really hear a lot of noise at all

There needs to be more lighting in the room as there were only wall lights. We had to buy some Mr Muscle to unclog the drain in the shower cubicle, these sort of things should be done by the staff. Bar/restaurant seemed to be shut rather early, we were quite disappointed as we would have liked a meal in there or to chill in the bar. Fridge in the room was warm

It was within a good walking distance of the train station, not too far from the shops, and situated exactly where I needed to go. The owner was friendly and helpful. Getting in and out was no problem, very easy to do. The room was a bit small, but for a single person that was rarely in the room, it was exactly what I needed. Comfy bed, working facilities, exactly what I needed.

The bedroom window was difficult to close at night. The fridge was not rather clean and made a loud noise, so I had to turn it off at the plug at night. There was a broken hairdryer in the drawer. One night, there was a strange sewage smell in the bathroom, and I am unsure whether this was from inside or outside wafting in through the window.

It's in a lively part of town close to the centre, and I was concerned that being an Inn it might be noisy, but the soundproofing was really good and I didn't hear a peep from the bar even though I was really close to it and people there were clearly having a very good time.

In some contexts it's described as a 'B&B' but they don't serve breakfast. That's no problem, as there's the perfect, good-value breakfast place two minutes' walk away, Tick-Tock on the Cowley Rd. It's a really old building, basically 17c. with appropriate upgrading, so narrow creaky stairs. 'Characterful', I'd say, again not a problem for me.

Fantastic location!!! Great restaurants steps out the door and a market. Short walk to the best shopping and just so cute. The gentleman that checked us in was super helpful and friendly. Loved the charm of the old building. Nice room size and bathroom size.

Our room was upstairs through a slanting hallway and then down a tight spiral staircase that ALSO had a steep slanting roof line so that you had to contort to get down the small door that was entry to our room. Leaving the room was easier as you could simply crawl on your hands and knees. Unfortunately I am super claustrophobic and I struggled a great deal with this set up. If you are cool with this description and can enjoy the nature of it being an old building, you’ll love this room. Also, don’t even think about bringing a suitcase to the room, small bags only.

10 min walk into oxford centre was fine (and beautiful) room was well organised and spatious - tv, fridge etc all working - excepting a fuse tripped on the 2nd night so no power to those sockets no breakfast provided - and also no food served mon-thurs - but numerous places inside 5 min walk e.g. tick tock cafe for breakfast - or angel pub (opposite) was seving food until 10 separate entrance from pub entrance

room was in the 2nd floor of 17th century coach house - doors are 5 feet tall - i am 6 foot 3.... awkward to get through with luggage etc - i was fine but not for anyone who has mobility difficulties ....

The room was pristine - one of the cleanest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in! I was very pleased with how clean and neat it was - well done to the cleaners!! It was well-equipped and even had a little fridge for keeping milk and so on. The proprietor recommended a number of restaurants in the area, but I did very well from the local Sainsbury's. Personally, I would have liked to be able to stay more centrally because I was in Oxford for research. I would have preferred a hotel near the library I use, where I could pop in for coffee and to eat meals during the day. But actually, I enjoyed the walk in and out of town, apart from the first day when it was raining and dismal. It was awesome at night.

I stayed midweek; the noise level from the street and pub opposite was to be expected. Almost all of the hotels in central Oxford which I have ever stayed in are noisy at night; with earplugs I got a good night's sleep.

The Black Horse Inn was very good value for Oxford. It's very well located, within easy walking distance of city centre (about 15 mins) but there is also a very good bus service, with buses (which are cheap) every few minutes to city centre and to train station. There is also a very good choice of restaurants and pubs close by. The rooms are very quirky and you do have to mind your head a bit at times if you're tall given that it's a 17th century building but it has real character. Our room was clean, it had all we needed and the en-suite and electric shower were good. It was very good base for the three nights we spent in Oxford and the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. We would recommend it.

Our only slight quibbles were that the bed was a bit soft for our liking and the traffic noise,, although we got used to that and it didn't stop us sleeping.

The location is near all the places you might want to visit in Oxford. There are lots of dining places in the area. The room was clean and comfortable, with all the amenities. The shower doors were off the track, so the bathroom flooded each time we showered. Other than that, I had no complaints about this room. The airport bus is a two-minute walk from here; it dropped us off at the terminal. That saved so much luggage schlepping.

The check was until 3.00 p.m. when the pub opened. We arrived at 10.30 a.m., so we hid our luggage behind the pub and wandered the street until then. I waited while the bartender finished serving his beers before being checked in. Something better could have been arranged with using a lockbox as this was a prepaid room.

We stayed with our 7 month old baby and the location was so convenient as we could leave our car parked securely in the back and walk one road to all the Oxford sites with our pram in just 10 minutes. There were also a lot of great restaurants and cafes right by the inn. Check in and out was very easy and they were happy for us to check in early.

The bed was very small although comfortable, and as it’s on the main road into town and near a main roundabout, the noise from the traffic came right through the windows including quite a few police/ambulance sirens. Make sure you bring earplugs!

The room was comfortable and clean with plenty of space. The beds were very comfortable. Jane who checked us in was great, she gave us lots of tips about places to go and eat, and also fetched us a heater when we were a bit chilly. This hotel is in a fantastic spot, so close to all the main attractions in Oxford, just down the road from the Botanical Gardens and Magdalen College, and the centre of town is just a few more minutes walk. Check out Kasbar round the corner for dinner, it’s fantastic.

I am a light sleeper and our room faced the main road. I really didn’t sleep well as although the hotel is set back from the road, there is still constant traffic noise. If you are a light sleeper then either take ear plugs or ask for a room at the back.
