Staff and food excellent

The restaurant is excellent and obviously very popular with locals who actually made us feel uncomfortable as though we were imposing on their territory!

We stayed for one night. The staff on arrival were very friendly, efficient and prompt. Our room was lovely, very clean with everything we needed and very warm and cosy on a cold winter night. The bar lounge was also warm and cosy with a welcoming log fire burning and well stocked bar. We mingled with the friendly locals and had dinner which was exceptional!! Breakfast was also very good. All in all would not hesitate to recommend this great little find.

The car park entrance was a little narrow and needed care to enter( but as it was a very old and interesting building, added to its character). There was another supposed exit / entrance if required

Property was really nice I contacted the hotel in the morning of the booking and said that I would be around 8:45 pm to check in and if the restaurant would be closed they did say it would be closed but they would stay open and wait for me to get into my room and order whatever I liked after getting into my room went downstairs and ordered and was freshly prepared even though they waited for me for nearly half an hour 45 minutes staff was absolutely bang on at the night time and in the morning at breakfast I travel to Glasgow every now and again delivering classic cars and they even made a spot out front for me to park the truck, This will now be my primary location to stay when I next go to Penrith

Only thing I didn’t like I couldn’t control the temperature in the bedroom and by 10pm it was cold

Lovely hotel in a great location. Penrith centre is around 8 mins away and access to Keswick, Ullswater, Pooley Bridge etc are all within short distances. Our room was comfy and whilst we didn't eat dinner on an evening at the hotel, our breakfast each morning was excellent..my scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection! There is plenty of parking and a lovely little garden area with seating if you're lucky enough to have the sunny weather like we did. All the staff were friendly and polite and we would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

As we were travelling from the Cairnryan ferry we knew we'd be unlikely to arrive in time for dinner, so we phoned to let them know. The staff went out of their way to take an order from us and make sure there was dinner for us when we arrived, in their cosy bar, all of which was fantastic, and much appreciated. The position of the hotel in the northern Lakes is great and we really liked the huge map of the Lake District on the wall of the breakfast room. All in all we definitely intend to go back.

I had dinner in the bar in front of a very welcome fire, and it was excellent. I recommend the Chef's steak and ale pie! Breakfast was also very good, large portions and plenty of choice. Friendly and helpful staff.

There's a low doorway in the corridor which I banged my head on, a couple of times. The staff warned me, but of course you forget sometimes. The room was cold at times, though the weather was exceptionally cold.

The Brantwood is a traditional hotel/pub with modern amenities. We enjoyed a drink at the bar with log fire, before eating a delicious, home-cooked meal in the restaurant. I had two generous fillets of local trout, cooked to perfection. Breakfast was equally good. We were on our way to Oban the next morning so only had time for a short walk to catch a glimpse of Ullswater thanks to directions from the friendly staff.

Nice decor in the room, it seemed a little noisy when we arrived - noise from the bar below - and other guests arriving sounded loud in the corridor outside, but that did not go on long and when we retired for the night, it was perfectly quiet - all night. Comfy soft bed. Good sized shower room with lovely hot water. Handy there was a restaurant (and bar) on site and a very good menu. Interesting decor on the walls in the bar and the restaurant. The breakfast was fine and there are options for vegans. If it had been warmer we would have enjoyed sitting in the lovely garden area next to the parking - very nice selection of planting there, a well looked after garden.

Very narrow archway into the car park tricky for anything other than small cars - but you can go (carefully and slowly) in the other way instead.

Having discovered the Brantwood we are regular returners , this charming traditional small country house hotel in a peaceful village setting maintains consistently high standards offering excellent hospitality from the owner and his friendly helpful team of staff is a true gem. Excellent food available in the restaurant and if staying over the weekend the exceptional Sunday lunch is a must . Cosy welcoming bar area in which to enjoy a relaxing drink . Outside garden seating area and on site parking

Couple of rooms are on the smaller side . Wifi variable Narrow drive through archway at entrance

Check-in was prompt and friendly and our room was spacious and cosy. The breakfast was tasty and the waitress was efficient and friendly. The hotel is only a few minutes from the motorway and in a nice quiet village which was lovely for a relaxing walk before dinner. Tip: The fuel at the filling station just off the roundabout on the way to the village is 25p per litre cheaper than the motorway service stations, and it has a wonderful deli!

The paintwork was a little chipped, especially on the door to the room. This door was a bit lightweight which meant the noise of people moving on the (creaky) stair was quite noticeable. A higher quality door would improve both these issues.
