Staff, especially Dani and Hannah were exceptional 👏. Couldn't have asked for anyone friendlier and more helpful. The pub is ideally located in the centre of town, is well laid out inside, with plenty of seating and a pool table. Locals were friendly, and despite it being a weekend, not too raucous - it is a local pub after all. Yes there is music playing until 00:00, but this was turned off afterwards, which was explained at check in. Rooms are simple, but clean and well maintained.

Never managed to get the shower working properly, but didn't miss it tbh. Carpark isn't the biggest, but got a space both nights

After reading the reviews I was a bit dubious of going . Arrived at 10 am and coz booking wasn't until 3pm parked in car park and had a look around the area We were literally in middle of town Booked in at just gone 3 and room was immaculate with mega comfy bed :-) The guy showing us in ( sorry didnt get his name) was lovely chatty and gave us all info we needed It was a bit noisy from about 5 pm But as we were going out at 7-30 it didn't bother us We went for a drink in the bar downstairs before heading out The clientele were all really young and quite loud but ALL very friendly and very polite The lady behind the bar ( Chloe I think ) couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and was a really lovely lady pointing us in the direction of more nightlife and answering any questions we asked We arrived back there around 11-15 and had a couple of more drinks which again the people in there were friendly They closed around 12-30 as it had died off and no noise was heard after that Much the same the following evening But all in all a lovely stay in a very nice place with lovely and friendly staff

Shower took a while to adjust to correct temp .....But very minor

We arrived early as traffic was low …The man who welcomed us let us book in a couple of hours before check in ( usually we have to wait till 3 pm wherever we go ) what an amazing host Steve was , easy access to m 6 and a 66 close to all amenities and would definitely recommend keep the good work up your a brilliant host Steve

It is dated and could do with large screen tv the one in room is small

This stay was perfect for what we were wanting. A night out in a lovely village. We were a bit sceptical with a few of the locals in the pub but they didn't stay late and we had a great night out the staff were so lovely and the prices were so reasonable the pub is situated in the heart of the village so walking distance to all the pubs and restaurants fir a good night out. The hotel rooms were clean and the bed was really comfy. Complimentsry Tea and biscuits and big fluffy towels. Free parking.

The room wall are very thin so If you are there for a quiet night away maybe not the place for you but if you looking for a nice night away with plenty of places to go its great. The music went off before 12pm and there were no noisy neighbours and noone hanging outside as some reviews have suggested.

We are a group of ‘mature’ bikers who stayed for one night. It’s a lively place…. but, nothing wrong with that, it wasn’t a problem. The only downside was that there was no ale, just lager. Food was, for the money, exceptional. Staff were friendly, helpful and funny. Rooms were good. For a quick stayover in Penrith, pretty much bang on….

no real ale

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the bbq food they were serving on the Sunday. For the price we didn't expect much more than a basic room, but there was a TV with Netflix, and a room fan, which was great as I do overheat at night. The decor was tasteful and modern. We were just staying the one night but would happily have stayed longer. It suited our needs perfectly.

The shower was underpowered but the temperature was easily adjusted. It just took longer to shower because of the low water pressure.

Heard music from pub downstairs but to be fair, they tell you this beforehand. Good news is there's a pub downstairs! Woot!

A comfortable bed, hot shower above a lively pub , If you want an early night and 5 star luxury pay the money and stay elsewhere, if you want a clean comfortable room and a few pints with the locals then the Castlegate ticks the box

Very friendly staff room was small but cosy and clean and though it stated it could be very noisy pub was very quiet that night so cant really comment on that but overall a very pleasant stay
