The evening meal was absolutely excellent. Delicious, one of the best we’ve had in ages. We would definitely come back for the food. The couple running the place were also really good, so friendly and very welcoming. It is a good location between Penrith and Keswick, easily accessible yet quiet , no road noise. It was also a decent nights sleep. Good value for money.

Just a little bit shabby in the bedroom and probably needed a better clean (a few spiders webs in the bedroom and sone mould in the shower room) BUT it was comfortable and definitely well worth the money. Also only one piece of toast each at breakfast was a bit stingy, especially as we didn’t have any cereals etc.

The host, Nicole, was engaging and welcoming from the very start. The room met all expectations - very clean and comfortable. The bar area was cosy (log burner) and the locals and regulars were friendly and welcoming too. Co-host, Alan, clearly works hard to maintain his beer (and more) because the drinks were excellent. We booked a table for dinner before arrival (recommended) and the simple bar/restaurant menu did not disappoint. The food was beautifully prepared and wonderfully presented. Compliments to the Chef. The bedroom was very clean. The bed, comfortable. The en-suite was ample (clean too). Breakfast was pre-ordered in the evening and was ample and well prepared with drinks and toast. Absolutely no complaints or issues about our stay whatsoever. Will happily book again when next in the area.

There was nothing not to like.

Very quaint, cosy place to stay. The decor and furnishings were very in keeping with the property! The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, I love that dogs are welcomed at the property. We did not eat dinner at the Troutbeck however, the other diners dinner smelt incredible. Our breakfast was 10/10, plenty of choice and good quality ingredients! The bedroom was great, tastefully decorated and the bed was so comfy we did not want to get out in the morning. The bathroom was slightly dated, (this did not bother us at all!) but excellently clean, and warm. We loved everything about our stay and we will definitely be back.

Check out was earlier than we anticipated but not a real issue, just meant we got to see more of the day!

The setting and the scenery was lovely especially when it was raining at night and the log burners inside make it sound warming and the food and drinks are top notch the Guinness pie is quite a handful as is the big burger

Nothing everything was superb only snag I struggled to figure out how to switch the shower on and found a red switch on the wall in the room eventually ha ha and the plugs to charge your phone ,tablet etc could be more visible but these are nothing to complains about I will deffo return

The room was refurbished to a good standard and was quite comfortable and offered a lot of drawer and wardrobe storage. Breakfast was included and offered a choice of options and was very good. The location is very rural and a good base for visiting the Northern and Western Lake Districts. Very happy that the hotel was dog-friendly.

The bed was a small UK double size.

It is a beautiful tranquil place. Niki and Alan are great fun hosts creating a home from home experience. Lovely clean comfortable rooms and bed. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuit top ups. A great cooked breakfast every morning if you wanted it or you can chose if you want something different. Fran, Simon and Chef (staff) all very obliging making our stay very homely and helped us decide where we were visiting by recommending places of interest. We had a great Sunday lunch in their restaurant and always busy so need to book. We ate in town as we were out most days visiting different areas but again you need to book otherwise you won’t get in to most places to eat. We drove to different areas then walked, I recommend you get to places early if you want to park as places get full quickly especially on Bank holiday weekends.

A brilliant location on the edge of the lake district, not too far away, but just outside the really expensive locations. Everything was fab, the room, the dinner and the breakfast, not to mention the friendly staff. A nice greeting on arrival with all the required information covered. The room was bright and clean with great views over the hills to the south. I usually like a hard bed, but found the bed to be soft but comfortable and had a great nights sleep. I had dinner on the night of my stay and although I had simple Fish and Chips the care in preparation and presentation was evident. Breakfast was exactly what I asked for derived when I asked - perfect.

More of an amusement, however the basin in the bathroom had a shelf above it which meant washing your face was a little awkward - 10mins with a saw would fix it.

Astoundingly friendly, attentive and fun staff. Beautifully fresh, newly refurbished room with an epic view from my room window. Wonderful pub style food at a very reasonable price - the dessert that I had would not have been out of place in a top class restaurant. Superb breakfast. Excellent measures taken to cope with a staff shortage that meant there wasn't in any way a detraction from my visit

Certainly not a criticism but don't expect an extensive menu. However, I think that a few items done extremely well is so much better than a huge menu with poorly done food. Vegans and veggies seemed well catered for - though they would miss out on the lovely real steak and ale pie!!

Lovely couple running the place almost single handedly we were celebrating a friends 70th birthday (8 of us) we booked a table in the restaurant for our 2 nights the food and service were both excellent the rooms were clean and very comfortable wifi was also good tea/coffee and tv in the rooms last orders at the bar was 9 o'clock they open at 4 pm 5 hours was fine for us another 2 and it would of got very messy 😆 would definitely stay again if in the area

Would of been nice to have small bottles of shampoo and shower gel in the bathrooms

The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you, the food was lovely, the room as nice and clean, we didn't have the weather for it but there's plenty of outdoor seating with nice views for when the weather's on your side and it's dog friendly.

The bar closed a little early for my liking buy I guess that could of been to avoid some customers getting too drunk and ruining the stay of other customers so its understandable.
