The room was small, but clean and neat. My child had a separate bed which was lovely. We stayed 5 nights, a family of three in one room. We had a double and a single bed in there, bathroom with shower and toilet. Kettle, mugs, tea bags, coffee sachets sugar little milks, towels, ironing board with iron and hair dryer. A TV, on a rainy day did the job for us. Clean bedding and comfortable mattresses. Nice staff members. On the last day we just left our luggage there after checking out, until our train time, that was really helpful to have a safe space for them without spending extra money. Amazing location as well, close to the beach (5 mins walk), Clearance Pier is about 10 mins away, Gunwharf centre is 10 mins and the train station is about 15 mins away. Cannot fault the service, the place and the comfort.
The room size could've been bigger, but that's on a characteristic feature of an old building. Overall we had an amazing visit and we would go back again to Duke of Buckingham.

We were in the little cottage at the rear of the former pub and it was away from the main street, hence fairly private. Room was of a good size and had all the facilities you could ask for. It would work for a longer stay as well as a weekender given it had things such as an iron and ironing board, alongside a decent wardrobe. The location was unbelievably well located only a handful of minutes walk from Spice Island, Clarence Pier, Southsea Common and the Gunwharf Quays complex. Plenty of very good pubs and restaurants on the doorstep too, albeit none of them particularly cheap.
The fan was rather feeble and didn't make even the slightest dent in the baking temperatures we had during our stay.

The location is absolutely superb! The old Portsmouth, the sea side walk - everything is very close. There are a few nice cafes that serve breakfast starting fron 8 or 08 30. Tesco express is just 5 min away. A 15 minutes easy walk from the train station and ferries.
The carpet was dirty. Really old and dirty. I guess it's far beoynd vacuum cleaning to clean it. And another issue - everytime our neighbours used bathroom we could hear it like if we were there. My guess is it worked bothways, so they heard us just as well. Surprisingly apart from this the room was quite soundproof - didn't hear neighbours takking or watching tv.

Great location. Comfortable beds. Lovely warm room. Able to purchase a parking permit for way less than it would cost to pay for parking at the meter. We paid £10 for 2 days. It would have cost around £28 if we had paid for it at the machine. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Fabulous, prompt communication from the staff when I had to email them.
There was no hand soap in the bathroom, despite the booking saying there would be. There are not enough available sockets to plug in phone chargers. One socket was half covered by the wardrobe. We had the ground floor room, and the room above had a very creaky floor, which was not ideal, especially with little ones running around. It sounded like a herd of elephants moving around up there. The stairs leading from upstairs were also very creaky.

We were located in the little cottage at the rear of the main property, which had a very cute vibe. The room was very clean, the accommodation is very well situated in close proximity to Gunwharf Quays, and the Wightlink Ferry terminal (this was a short one night stay before Ferry travel the next morning). The check in staff were friendly and helpful.
We also travelled with other family, who were situated in the room below us (we were on the 1st floor). However, the others in our party were a group of 3 adults, whereas we were 2 adults and an 18-month old. It would have made more sense for us to have been in the opposite rooms as the stairs are quite difficult to navigate whilst carrying a toddler. There was a missing floorboard right inside the front door, which was also the only route to the bathroom, it was incredibly dangerous and needs to be addressed to avoid any accidents.

Lovely building in a great location. Great for an overnight stay. For the price it’s outstanding value based on a Tuesday night stay. Lovely deep bath and comfortable bed.
Headboard has seen better days (pealing faux leather) Dirty or stained mattress protector (only noticed as a hospitality worker I always strip the bedding to add with towels for an easy last check of all belongings and help the housekeeping) Couldn’t drop our bags before check in as the office is closed. So be sure to message them BEFORE if you want to be able to do this. The staircase is very creaky and you can hear people in the other rooms. (Didn’t bother us but may do to someone staying work)

Stayed at the Duke of Buckingham and had a great experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was spacious and spotless, with a very comfortable bed and an excellent shower. Only upstairs was some noise from the room above, but overall a pleasant stay.
While the location is great, the lack of soundproofing was a big disappointment. I could clearly hear every movement and conversation from the room above, which made it difficult to relax and get a good night's sleep. This is something that really needs improvement to match the otherwise pleasant experience of the hotel. Until then, it's hard to recommend for light sleepers or those looking for a quiet stay

Given a nice family room on the ground floor in the cottage behind the main building. Otherwise my room would have been up three flights of stairs. Nice bed, TV, heater I could control, I like it cool overnight. Generally clean. Nice bedding, plenty of sockets. Tea and coffee making facilities. Quiet. Bathroom, with shower and WC. Good location. Great price. Good value for money. Bedside lights. Helpful staff.
Shower a bit small for me, toilet seat was a bit loose. Carpet was lightly marked in places. No breakfast available.

Lovely room .. such a comfortable bed and awesome shower (that woke me up) Only draw back - bit too small tv with not enough channels avaliable. Parking is a real problem which is limited . But it is helpful thar you are able to purchase a parking permit for your stay - costs £5 per day . No food avaliable . Overall a pleasant stay and I would return if I needed to travel to Portsmouth . Thank you the Duke of Buckingham :)

The price was great and it’s in a good location not far from the seafront, town centre, Gunwharf Quays and other attractions. The road is also fairly quiet at night compared to other places in Portsmouth which was a huge plus as I was travelling for work and needed to sleep properly. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff were really friendly and helpful and even helped me with my luggage. I will definitely book again!
