The rooms are lovely; this was my third visit. Beds always super comfortable with crisp sheets. Able ro eat outside on a lovely evening, the menu fresh and delicious, service very good.

No fresh milk in the room and the plug situation was really bad; unfortunately, there is no phone to have the ability to call down to reception. Could only boil the kettle on the floor as the cable wasn't long enough - dangerous. The only available plug sockets were via an extension on the floor with no length to be any higher! Stayed in room 19. I do love this place, if they could just tweak a little, it would be perfect!

Staff and room were generally excellent.

The bathroom was looking a little tired, but was clean and worked well.

The William Cecil Hotel originally three separate 18th century houses which lie within the Burghley Estate reflecting the historic picturesque Lincolnshire market town of Stamford. A very warm welcome awaits you from the profession polite hotel personnel to the quirky chic country house all of the 27 rooms have eclectic themed décor with all the creature comforts required.

Disappointing the lunch/dinner menus which were on the pretentious side reflecting the empty restaurant and no alternatives were proffered. Although the drinks were served succinctly dinner was not and was found at the Michelin accredited Turkish restaurant in the town

The hotel is situated off the main road into Stamford and it is easy to walk in to the town quickly. The check-in was very efficient and staff were friendly. The room was in an outside block, not particularly attractive but the room itself was OK. The room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very good, as were the breakfasts.

The TV kept switching itself on during the early morning, must be some type of wake-up call mechanism. The room was not as warm as my wife would have liked, although OK for me. However, to use the shower in the wet-room was a no-no due to lack of heating. Brrrr!

Beautiful hotel with lovely oak furniture

Thick dust on the skirting board in the first room. However staff were brilliant and helpful

We stayed last night and had an incredible time, We are driving home but I've already booked in for our anniversary and I never go to the same place more than once. The building itself is divine, there's so much artwork on the walls and it's not generic "hotel art" it's beautiful pieces that are in keeping with the age of the property. We stayed in the small double and it was adorable, low ceilings, a huge bed and a really decent sized bath. It was totally spotless as well, with loads of toiletries and a very good sized fridge. What really sells this place are the staff, we go away a lot and we've never been made to feel more welcome; Rachael was so lovely, she made a massive fuss of our puppy, and helped us with everything we asked for. She went above and beyond to look after us, my missus was at a dinner up the road so Rachael got me set up in the conservatory with a dog bed sol could paint whilst having some food and wine without being cooped in the bedroom. Jane checked on me throughout the evening and was so nice and accommodating, she even offered to keep an eye on my puppy so I could go to meet my girlfriend for a drink, which I did. Breakfast was delicious, as was the cheese board from the night before. When it was check out a few of the staff spoke to us and they were such a nice bunch, honestly finished off the visit perfectly and we are very much looking forward to coming back in September

The lady who was dealing with breakfast was really quite rude and abrupt, shocking considering every other staff member we interacted with was wonderful. She was snappy and snatched the ketchup from us whilst telling us off because it was for everyone, not even giving us chance to speak. We'd been given it by another staff member so weren't expecting it and she charged at the table quite dramatically which really made me jump. We found it hilarious because it was quite absurd behaviour and we've had a good giggle about it, maybe she just missed her morning coffee.

love the location and the style of the hotel. we knew we were in on of the attic rooms with max 6 foot height, but this just made it a bit quirky.

it wasn’t a dislike, more an observation. the room was really warm with only one small window, however there was quite a large fan available so it has obviously been mentioned before. I think that due to the age of the hotel there is probably very little can be do.

Excellent location, great car park. Lovely breakfast. Loved the homemade shortbread in the room with the tea and coffee tray Great location to explore Stamford on foot and next door to Burghley House

The pillows…… very old, flat and musty, well used but needed to be thrown out so not a good image for the Hotel. When we reported this the receptionist said that new pillows had been ordered for all the rooms. Also as the shower is in the bath it would be safer to have a grab handle so hopefully they will be installed

The staff were wonderful, very helpful and friendly. The room was l was in was large and I liked the free Gin and tonic included in the room. Breakfast was delicious.

The carpet looked as though it hadn’t been vacuumed in quite some time, there was a toenail cutting near the desk leg plus there was a lot of built up fluff/lint/bits. The room was VERY hot and there is no A/C, the fan in the room was broken and I had to request another a few times… as it was quite hot. There was no shower as such, it was just the bath with a hand held shower wand… water went everywhere. There is no elevator but the lovely staff can bring your bag to your room for you.

Lovely stay again. Although we had a Cosy Attic room which I think is one of the smaller sizes in this lovely old Listed Building, it was quite spacious. Ceiling a little lower than rooms on lower floors so a person over 6 feet might feel they're a bit near the ceiling. I'm quite short so no problem for me. Room generally well furnished but carpet needs a deep clean as a few stains here and there. It's a lovely deep carpet. Think it was just tea stains. Some coasters on the tea making table and bedside tables would be handy as I didn't want to stain them, although I did a bit. Great to have a large fan and a little fridge as the very hot weather was on the way. Very tasty flapjack type treats supplied every day, and nice big bottled water. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Bathroom large and very nice toiletries called 100 acres. Don't take them away when you go or you may find you're billed as they're around £20 a bottle. There is a sign to this effect. You can buy them from Reception. Fantastic breakfast every day. I had the full cooked one, and my partner had the salmon and scrambled eggs. Both very enjoyable and Waiting Staff very friendly and efficient.

Nothing that we didn't like. Just an observation. We noted that the bedside lamps were plugged into old round pin sockets. Only noticed as we needed to plug a medical device in that my partner needs at night on her bedside table, but luckily it's got a long lead so plugged it into modern sockets further round the room. Gentleman on Reception said the bedside lamp older plugs cannot be changed as it's a Listed Building and offered to source an extension lead but we said we'd just unplug the kettle and plug the device in there so no dramas. Just be aware if you have a CPAP device with a short lead and you're in Room 24 (the room with no number on the door).
