The Fox and Hounds is located in a beautiful part of the country close to Rutland Water with great walks nearby. Our room was well equipped and comfortable, although I prefer a lighter weight duvet in July. Simon and Christina (our hosts) were obliging and informative. Breakfast and evening meals (particularly the Greek option) were very good indeed, but I'm afraid that I need to eat less as I've aged!! I would have appreciated a lighter choice (say, a Continental breakfast option) to be offered. When I enquired about a lighter option our hosts offered Meusli and Greek Yoghurt which was excellent for us.

Our room was a bit dark and I'm not a big fan of "shabby chique", but many are, and this was very well done for those people.

Lovely old coaching inn in village location (not too far from Rutland Water) with garden to rear and adjacent courtyard for parking. Nice area for walking/cycling. Hotel/pub with open plan bar area. Patio and seating in the garden. Stairs to rooms. Large room, nicely decorated with bath and separate shower cubicle. Separate wc too. Tea/coffee in room. Freshly cooked breakfast to order (ordered on sheet previous evening). Very tasty evening food even on Sunday when kitchen closes early, we were still provided with an excellent sharer which more than hit the spot.

Couldn't really fault.

A beautifully decorated and clean room with comfortable sheets and plentiful towels. Quiet location in a pretty village and friendly staff. Courtyard parting perfect for dogs sleeping n the car. Helpful with dog walks and a great field for them to run in.

When I called I was assured the kitchen would be open for an evening meal but on arrival was informed the chef had been sent home, I had booked on this information and was slightly upset by the situation on arrival. I had been hoping for a meal at the hotel due to tiredness but ended up with an excellent meal a short drive away.

Amazing decor - someone with a real eye for colour and style. The oriental theme in our room was opulent, but carefully chosen. Especially liked the upcycled furniture. The bed and pillows (so often a let-down in hotels) were superbly comfortable - as good as at home! Plenty of space in the bedroom and bathroom - sadly didn't have time to luxuriate in the bath. Very quiet at night and lovely to wake up to the birds singing. Breakfast (at extra charge) was splendid - everything cooked really well and beautifully presented. Last but not least, Christina, our host, was most welcoming and helpful

Although both kettle and Nespresso coffee machine were provided, teabags and milk cartons were the bare minimum. To be fair, we asked for more milk and this was given with no quibble. There were several mirrors around the place, but none was placed such that I could get a good light for shaving - ended up standing in the middle of the bathroom under the main light with the hand-mirror!

Very convenient to find by car, tranquil setting and good off road parking. Spacious/well appointed room, very comfortable bed and an equally spacious bathroom. Quirky decor which suited our taste..Excellent food; for dinner we opted for Greek specialities for starters and mains. The chocolate pudding/mousse was thick set and wonderfully decadent! The full cooked breakfast was equally good.

Our only inconvenience was a fault with the shower thermostat which led to a very hot shower.......no shortage of water though!

The room and facilities were excellent as was the location in relation to Rutland Water etc. The owners were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent with an interesting combination between Greek and English.

We were a bit early and although appreciating that we could not book in then it would have been helpful to have been allowed to leave our bags in the hotel until we could book in rather than having to reload them into the car in the rain.

Lovely location on the green of a lovely village and within very easy driving distance of Oakham and Rutland Water. The decor had been lots of attention and the layout of the hotel managed to be rambling/eclectic and thoroughly usable at the same time. Super outdoor area and dining room to the rear. The rooms are genuinely boutique and well-crafted.

Personally I'd drop the wooden drinking vessels in the rooms. They pick up the Javanese furniture theme, but aren't that hygienic. Room 3 probably requires a handrail or bannister in the beautiful bathroom entrance to pass a risk assessment - it's a 90 degrees turn down 3 steps, which some people might forget in the dark! A bell on the front door would be useful - it was locked when we arrived late afternoon.

Enormous light room overlooking the gardens. We stayed for a wedding and there was plenty of room for us both to get ready and relax. The Fox and Hounds is located in the idyllic village of Exton, which was wonderful for us to explore in the morning. The staff were absolutely lovely and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a nice stay, even by bringing me a whole tray of little snacks when I mentioned that I was hungry!

We would have liked a couple more options for breakfast (a fry up was a bit much for my hangover the next day!)

We loved our stay at this quiet inn. The decor, style and size of the room was accommodating and romantic- it had a huge separate en-suite/bathroom with beautiful decor to complement the master bedroom. The breakfast was substantial and you had a choice of picking vegetarian or full English complimented tea/coffee and all the trimmings. Staff very friendly and catered for all our needs.

The bath water wasn’t as hot as I usually would expect, for my standard bath. However, not unsatisfactory at all, as it was still hot enough to bath in, but something to perhaps be aware of. Shower was super hot and lovely and spacious bathroom.

Lovely old building set in a picturesque rural hamlet. It has a country garden in which to enjoy a drink. Rooms very comfortable-we had a 4 poster bed and a very impressive bathroom. Home cooked and locally sourced food was excellent with the Greek owner (Simon) adding a very nice authentic touch to some of the dishes.

Nothing!
