Loved the inn vibe, beautiful decor, amazing view, great location, fabulous staff/ facilities, great food etc. Amazing friendly , courteous and efficient staff. Fabulous food especially the breakfast Beautiful property and location Nice rooms though standard double bed room is small. And there is NO LIFT so u have to be OK to lug your bags up. All staff is super warm and helpful. Nicky, Millie and other staff were amazing and made us feel at home during the 7 days we were there. Tip book the large double bed room if u want a comfortable sized bed and room. Food pricing is competitive with other nearby restaurants but not cheap. About.GBP 60-70 for 2 people per meal with a drink and dessert.

Nothing major. THe Rooms are nice BUT the standard double bed room is quite small if u have say 2 bags. At least per my expectations. The bed is also small for two people especially if you are both normal sized. Website Photos don't help you figure the size of the room thus I missed booking the large double bed room. Bathroom was clean and nice but a bit small as well.

Breakfast was good. Location fab

The evening meals in the bar ! Felt they were expensive for the quality and quantity . My partners fish was burnt and she had hardly any chips. Far to polite to complain. My stepson had a burger, no coleslaw with it , not £17 worth of food .

The food was exceptionally good and varied. Breakfast offered a delicious variety of things and though I only ate two dinners there, both were superb. The room they gave me was easily accessible from the reception and dinning room, so they accommodated my mobility issues with thought. The staff were receptive, extremely helpful, professional, kind and caring. They also informed me, in advance, of an event happening in the hotel, so I was aware of access restrictions in places and increased numbers of people, etc.

There was nothing I didn't like.

Breakfast was brilliant, you could order a full english/eggs benedict and a good few other choices. On top of having a breakfast buffet of pastries, nice fruit (including watermelon, grapes, pineapple etc). and cereal, apple & orange juice, coffee and tea. They had tiptree jams and butter already on each table. It was very well organised and the food was delicious. We didnt have a full meal here, but we tried the crab arancini and truffle & parmesan fries and both were very tasty! The South African Sauv Blanc was a hit, we were kindly made Irish coffees, pimms & g&ts, all were well presented and the service was impeccable and friendly. A little on the pricey side for the drinks themselves, but was actually great value for money considering the service, lovely outdoor area, location and views. Loads of outdoor seating, ping pong table and foosball table. The grounds are much bigger in person than in the photos, there was also a large car park for probably 50+ cars. Absolutely loved staying at the Bear, our room was excellent with a nice big bed which was extremely comfy. Also had long pillows which were great. Well stocked tea and coffee station with complimentary biscuits, chocolates and still/sparkling water. These were all replenished in full each day. The rooms were so cool and airy, was always a comfortable temperature. Soundproofing was good, we both had a great night sleep both nights. The bathroom had hand soap, hand lotion, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, so we didnt even have to worry about getting our own. I'm not sure how this place is only rated a 3 star, it is at the very least a 4 star and was the most accommodating and welcoming hotel I have stayed in. The decor and aesthetics were fantastic, such an original and unique place. I will certainly be recommending to friends and family. I would love to stay again and probably will considering my partner and I love the area.

The only things I could suggest would be a mini fridge as a like my water cold, especially in summer. Also, the bathroom fan went on for a lot longer than necessary, at least 30mins after the light had been switched off.

Very kind lady at the reception called Nikki - my mother and I got quite ill and fluey when we arrived and we had to stay in for a day. Nikki went the extra mile offered to put together a care package with medicine, instant soup and some fruit from the supermarket before she came into work one day. Thank you soooo much Nikki!! That was so lovely of you!!

The breakfast area could be cleaner. The table doesn’t seem to get cleaned between uses, there’s always some crumb or something else on it. Also, some fresh fruit options for breakfast would be great.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Bear - our room was comfortable and clean, and well provided with storage and refreshments. It was really nice to have proper mugs to drink tea from, and lovely tea too. We particularly liked the soap and shampoo provided. We also enjoyed the excellent menu in the Common Room and Restaurant - very good breakfast and an imaginative choice of well presented and cooked dishes. The staff are amazing - we have rarely been in a hotel where everyone was so friendly, courteous and competent. This made a great impression on us. All this complemented by a beautiful location with amazing views. Plenty of easy access parking. Lovely outside spaces to sit and enjoy a drink or bar food. We will return next time we come to Stroud.

Not much to criticise really.. Wifi coverage in our room was non-existent but OK in the public rooms.

We enjoyed our stay at the Bear. The room was very clean and well presented. Signage was helpful from the Car Park to Reception as it is not obvious. The first thing we heard was the duty desk person saying to another guest that they were short staffed which did not bode well. He was welcoming, if a little harassed. It was quite a way to Room 30 and an offer of help might have been good but It would have left Front Desk unmanned. We had been to a funeral and a reception afterwards and so didn't want a full menu. However, the menu provided us with just what we needed. I think it was two starters and a side. I also had a dessert. All the food was high quality. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The cooked breakfast was very tasty. Staff were fully focussed. It was all good value. We would come again if in the area.

Service at dinner was a little random-my red wine was forgotten and there were often quite long times in the dining room with no staff about-short staffed? The staff were friendly but it lacked a real sense that they were totally on top of their job. You can hear the road from Room 30 but it didn't keep us awake as not that busy.

Location (we've been several times over 28 years), food, accommodation (we were in the 4-poster suite).

Too few staff. This, from our experience, is something the Bear gets wrong regularly. Simply not enough to service the restaurant, bar and garden. Bar and garden tables covered in empty glasses and restaurant tables left uncleared for nearly an hour. When we mentioned it to reception on departure, we were told that it's hard to predict how busy it will be. NONSENSE. You are supposed to be an expert in hospitality. I could have worked out that on a sunny day during May half term, 4 bar/waiting staff probably wasn't going to be enough. Please do better. There are many other places hoping for our business.

Beautiful old property full of character. tastefully furnished . Loved the stuffed bear although the teeth were shocking - looked like they’d been painted with tipex. very good breakfast and service. great location being able to walk straight out onto the common . proximity to Stroud . wonderful four poster bed .

noisy road , old windows did not close properly. could hear noise from other guests and staff talking in corridors and woke me up . I was very hot and could not open the windows and needed to use the fan to be able to sleep. Roman blind broken and hanging spoiled the aesthetics of the room - needs attention.

Beautiful garden/terrace. Historic characterful buildings with lovely decor. Good bathrooms and comfortable beds. Supplied dog bed and bowls and my dog was delighted with all the attention and biscuits

I didn’t really understand why an extra £9 was charged to supply smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on sourdough in the place of a cooked breakfast which was already paid for. £24 seems quite steep for this plus some coffee everything else was spot on
