The Hare and Hounds Hotel is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The restaurant and bar had a lovely, cozy atmosphere, the food and service were excellent, and the drawing room and library were perfect for enjoying a glass of wine or coffee by the fire. I stayed in a room in the main building, which was beautiful, spacious, clean, and well-equipped with great amenities. The breakfast was delicious and offered everything you could want (and more). The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, which really enhanced my stay. As a solo female traveler visiting a slightly remote area (although there are many great destinations just a few minutes’ drive away), staying at a hotel can feel a bit daunting. However, I felt completely relaxed and safe, allowing me to fully enjoy my stay. The reception team also put me in contact with a local chauffeur service (Steven) and he was incredibly friendly and took me to a couple of different locations around Tetbury. He was very reasonably priced, provided a 10/10 service and I would highly recommend him if you have travelled by the train and need to get around the Cotswolds. I'm honestly surprised this hotel isn't rated 5 stars, as it’s one of the loveliest and coziest hotels I’ve stayed at, with every little detail thoughtfully considered by the management team. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Nothing, it was perfect

Every staff member I came into contact with was friendly, helpful and very well trained (even though many seemed to be temporary summer staff). The evening dinner (off the bar menu) was delicious and it was a bonus that the night of our stay it was a very hot evening and therefore my friend and I could sit outside and eat in the garden. The breakfast was also excellent. I had a single room which, whilst small, was well equipped and the en-suite bathroom was large. There was plenty of parking.

No air conditioning in my room - the temperature was at 25.5C all night, even though I opened the window (in spite of road noise). I asked for a fan - and got one - but it was still an uncomfortable night. I hadn't noticed at the time of booking that there was no air con in the room I had booked - if I had, I wouldn't have booked and would then have missed out on an otherwise lovely experience at the hotel. So perhaps it was just as well that I hadn't noticed the lack of air con at the time of booking ?? I would definitely stay at the hotel again - but only in colder weather.

staff were exceptionally friendly, professional and helpful. Nothing was too much bother. Very impressed that, although a single room, bed bigger than a single, everything very well placed, given size. Bathroom excellent. Amazed to find iron, ironing board, heater and fan all neatly stored. All common areas were lovely. Restaurant great/ well bar. Staff so lovely. Big car park. I loved it.

Room not enormous, but big enough and, given I could have paid less for other chains, and not been half as satisfied, I don't really have anything I didn't like. It really is a lovely hotel.

Breakfast was good, served in the spacious and relaxing restaurant with garden views. Lots of convenient parking available. We had a spacious room in the annexe. Attentive and helpful staff. Located between and within a mile of Highgrove and Westonbirt. Tetbury is only a couple of miles down the road

Dinner was good but not quite good enough to justify the high prices. It's a very doggy place and works very well for people travelling with dogs; fortunately they're not allowed in the restaurant but are usually found in the bar and gardens.

I came here to celebrate the marriage of my daughter. It was by far the best day, ever! From the moment we arrived, the wonderful staff ensured our stay was everything we wanted, and more. The ambience is so welcoming. It feels luxurious yet cosy. Relaxed, yet everything is perfect. The staff ensured all the members of the wedding party were looked after. Eliza was magnificent. Her organisation was exceptional, her manner, friendly and attention to detail ensured the day ran without a hitch. Thank you to every single member of the team. You are truly exceptional.

There was nothing I would change.

Great location. Welcoming friendly staff. Large comfortable room. Choice of Restaurant or more relaxed Jack Hare Bar. Comfortable cosy lounge area with log burner fire. Easy free parking. Beautiful outside space and garden.

Lack of shelving/ hooks in bathroom. Small heated towel rail not big enough for all the towels. Room in need of a dust on surfaces and top of bed head. Unnecessary coffee machine with no pods supplied. More choice of teas/ hot chocolate would've been better.

Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. We had a lovely time and the staff were amazing and we were very well looked after, which far out-weighed our negative comment. Thank you to all the staff that looked after us. We will be back again.

There was a problem with the heating in our bedroom, so therefore on arrival our room was cold. However, the problem was rectified and with an additional heater and the room warmed up fairly quickly. Also, we had booked a dog friendly room and were a little disappointed with the “tired” furniture and there was no blanket on the bed, whereas walking past the other pet friendly rooms there were blankets on the bed, but fortunately we had our own with us.

Breakfast was substantial and freshly cooked to order. Dinner was equally so. However, the white wine was served at room temperature and had to be sent back - to the bar in pre-dinner drinks and at the table when a new bottle was opened and sent back to be chilled with the result that we had eaten our meal before the wine chilled. This is unacceptable in a hotel of this calibre and detracted from our enjoyment.

Housekeeping left a lot to be desired. The hostess tray was never fully re-stocked. We were left with no toilet paper on one day and had to ask reception to send some. The floor in the bathroom (and elsewhere) did not appear to have been swept at all while we were there and the bathroom floor certainly had not been mopped and/or disinfected. Glasses were not washed, just left on the table.

We booked this quite late on a Saturday evening and then arrived soon after, but this was not a problem at all. They managed to get us in to the restaurant and we just quickly changed and headed to the bar and then dinner. The food was fabulous, the staff are fabulous and the old buildings were fabulous! We got chatting with other guests in the bar which was really nice. Breakfast was wonderful... So we were really happy.

I found the bed really uncomfortable unfortunately, else I'd love to have stayed an extra night.

The whole atmosphere within the hotel was relaxing, from the wood burners in the lounge and bar areas to the friendliness of the staff. From the point of arrival to departure the whole experience was a pleasure. You could either eat in the bar or the restaurant, with a choice of menu options. The hotel has extensive grounds for walking in, and is an ideal location for visiting local attractions. There is ample free parking available. Rooms overlooking the gardens are much sought after.

Paying a 12% service charge for eating in the bar. Conferences taking over the bar area which make it difficult for other guests and locals to sit and relax.
