We've been coming here for 20 years. It has gone downhill a bit but still great.

Undercooked bacon and sausages at breakfast and no fried eggs. Inedible fried bread harder than pork scratchings. Taking six attempts to get the car park barrier to let you out is annoying.

the hotel and location was amazing.

The petite lady who greeted us every morning For breakfast, on the very first morning, as she was talking us through where the different foods where, thought it was ok to slowly stare me and my partner up and down, from our shoes to our heads, one at a time, whilst standing a foot away from us. It was so blatant. We felt very uncomfortable around her and have never experienced this kind of rudeness in any hotels in our years of travelling. I don’t like to single anybody out, but when we’ve paid a lot of money to stay somewhere rudeness from staff for no reason, is unacceptable. This put a little taint on our trip and unfortunately we won’t be returning to this beautiful hotel.

The rooms were spacious; even the non sea view rooms were lovely. The staff were kind and attentive. The location was superb. The food was delicious (dinner / breakfast). I returned for a second visit; and Sandra was particularly gracious when booking my return visit via phone. It felt like I was being welcomed home before I even set foot on the property. I highly recommend the Imperial in Torquay.

This was our fifth stay at the Imperial hotel, and we've been visiting every year for our wedding anniversary. We love the history of the hotel, the retro vibe, and the amazing views. Some of the decor is dated, but it is part of the appeal and what we love about it. The rooms are very spacious and the views are amazing. The quality of food is always very good. Hotel staff are always very helpful even though more staff might be needed because of the long waits both for getting bar service, and during the breakfast rush hour.

Perhaps more staff during breakfast rush hour, to ease pressure on the existing staff.

We have a weekend away at the Imperial every year just after Christmas and always enjoy a lovely relaxing stay. The breakfast is the best we have ever had in any hotel in this country or abroad. The rooms and facilities are faultless.

We were disappointed this year to discover that the jacuzzi was out of service. The spa facilities are one of the major perks in booking the imperial. We have 3 disabled children and our yearly post Christmas trip to Torquay is our only break without the children so this was quite a blow. Had we have known that the jacuzzi wasn’t available we would have gone elsewhere on this occasion

It’s an old hotel that has a lot of personal memories for me. The views across the bay are unparalleled. 50 years ago this hotel was high class and iconic. Today that has faded, and it is not the 5 star hotel of yesteryear, but it still has elegance, space, style and setting that is unbeatable in Torquay. Also, at the time of staying (Jan 2024), the restaurant underpromises and over delivers. I would describe the food as casual haute cuisine. Impeccable menu, well balanced, all sauces made with concentrated and crafted flavors that are clearly prepared by a high quality chef. Also, thoroughly enjoyed a mud pack and massage. All the staff were friendly, helpful, attentive. Not the place it was but still a great place to stay.

The rooms are dated, some of the technology is older, like the card access system uses those magnetic cards that need to be reset every time they go near a phone. The bathroom in my suite was prone to flooding with the dated shower in a bathtub setup.

Breakfast was mostly excellent...though porridge, black pudding and potato cakes left something to be desired...from a Scot! The attention from the lifeguard attendants at the pool was fabulous -thank you so much-from a lady of 82 who hadn't been in a pool for over 6 yrs due to x2 road accidents. Location of hotel was pretty good..to excellent - I managed the little hill up the road from town x 2ce a day -no problem.

Well the furnishings in bedrooms were certainly dated and well worn out almost..but that any hotel of that size survived Covid over 2 yrs is just amazing in itself.

The feel of the hotel is really great. The age has been respected and thank goodness not done up and ruined like so may period properties have been. The staff were lovely and really helpful. Overall we had a really lovely stay and would definitely recommend and return.

The evening meal we had on our extended third night, which was included....so thank you very much..... and apologies for not giving great feedback.... but we just felt the menu wasn't very creative and the chicken breast was overcooked, breadsticks very hard and the broccoli was cold. So sorry to mention it.... I'm sure it was a one off mistake ...... the breakfast was really great!! Also the room would have been cosier with a traditional bedspread and cushions as in the pictures on the website xxxx
