Jill and her team were so lovely and welcoming! very friendly and attentive. the restaurant food was A-ma-zing!!! Breakfast was also brilliant. The bar was lovely with a great atmosphere where locals and guests enjoyed Friday evening together. we travelled a very long way (4.5hours) for a wedding to stay here and if we came again, we would defo stay here! stunning part of the world!! (bring your big coat though).
Given everything else was so good, these are minor... the towels are on the tiny side so I would've liked bigger ones, and the shower did tend to fluctuate in temperature which wasn't very relaxing, albeit not unmanageable.

Very comfortable bed (I’ve long term injuries to my back). Staff are brilliant, from the moment I arrived to departure. For me they have the perfect balance, checking you have everything you need from them in a pleasant, relaxed manner. I had the breakfast each morning and it was delicious, so I had the full Welsh everyday. A help yourself table with juice and cereal etc… My son and his girlfriend joined me at the restaurant for an evening meal. Although a reduced menu due to it being homemade curry night, we all received perfectly cooked meals. One opted for curry and two had meals off the menu. All of us said our meals were delicious.
The weather wasn’t too good. I had one day were I could enjoy sitting outside at one of the numerous picnic tables they have available. I’m unable to comment on the bar and lounge, as I’m not a drinker, I didn’t use it. However, it looked like a pleasant place as I passed by and I’m sure the staff’s approach would make it a nice place to sit, with a drink.

Welcome and service was friendly and efficient. Food quality very good indeed - much locally sourced - as was the local draft real ale. Room was clean and everything worked well. Bed was comfortable.
The room needed a bit of an update and certainly needed a desk & chair. The room was small, but there was room as there was both a large chest of drawers and a hanging cupboard - as I imagine most stays are only for a day or two this space could have been better utilised. TV was a bit old and the WiFi was adequate, but only just. As I was there for work, I found these things a bit limiting. Wasn't very keen about having to choose breakfast on booking in, but I understand why, given their limited staffing.

Excellent from the moment we checked in, ladies on reception welcomed us with a smile and never failed to be helpful, the food in the evening was excellent as was the breakfast. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. All the staff at The Slate were 10/10 right down to the young waitress in the evening who waited on our table.
The room we had was at the back of the property and so we had the noise of the trains and I assumed as i booked the last room it was the smaller room and with not the best view just the shed and bit of a backyard/garden that wasn’t very tidy!! but that said I would definitely stay again as it was good value

The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful; she took my breakfast order and remembered my room number when I asked to make a dining reservation later. She even helpfully came to tell me that I had left my car lights on whilst I was dining, saving me a flat battery. It was a lovely setting with views of the hills of the national park, and in the afternoon I was able to sit outside the front of the premises with my book and a cold drink from the bar. Although there is a train line nearby, it does not detract and did not disturb my sleep, even with my window open. Morning breakfast was hot filling and tasty, although the coffee was rather weak. Would happily return.

This is a lovely place to stay. Clean, comfortable, and friendly. All staff were lovely, relaxed and helpful. Free parking on site. The room was an adequate size and decent bathroom. Being an older property, there was a little creakyness and narrow hallways. Sounds from the hallway and other guests in the hallways cannot be helped. The breakfast and evening meal we had was superb and amazing value for money. The bar was just right for a chilled evening drink. This was a great find and welcoming to come back to after a day exploring Wales. We would definitely recommend this hotel, bar and restaurant.
Some noisier guests in the hallways were not lowering their voices at night or closing doors quietly. Not a criticism for the venue, but rather the guests we had at that time

Lovely friendly staff Very clean car parking nice lil pub style garden to sit in
I personally couldn't justify the breakfast for 15 pounds. The room was very small, it made moving around each other difficult as we would have to step into a gap several times to get to and from the bathroom which can get annoying getting ready in the morning. The gap in front of the toilet is again very small for movement. For the price being the same as the other two places we stayed in, it just didn't compare as good, hence the 8, not 10. The window didn't open much to cool it down, although the main road near was noisy, so I had to shut it to sleep anyway.

The room was clean and comfortable. The only complaint I would have was that the wardrobe is a bit wobbly. The staff were lovely. Friendly and professional. There was nothing too much trouble. I didn't realise at the time of booking that there are no accessible rooms, which would have been good. I managed the stairs, though, only just sometimes. We had a very relaxed 2 nights stay. No problem with the trains running closer by.
I didn't like the £15pp for breakfast. I thought it was just a bit too much. The food was excellent but no return for extras. I like to take my time and have just a few items. Then, if I'm still peckish, I like to be able to get more. Being diabetic I need to keep my diet to suit me. There was nothing on the menu to say if there was milk or its alternatives. No choice of white, wholemeal, seeded, etc. bread, that I saw. The hum from the fan in the kitchen was noticeable while the curtains were open.

The staff were so lovely everyone we spoke to was super friendly and helpful. The room itself was super pretty and spacious, great storage and a little vanity area which is sorely lacking in so many places. The bathroom is pretty and towels were lush. Chloe and Jill especially from the team could not do enough for us and really made an effort to talk to us whenever we came through reception. Gorgeous bar located on site as well.
The water pressure in the shower is intermittent in room 10 kept changing to a little drip and the temperature also was going from burning hot to cold. Quite a few times the plumbing in the bathroom smelt quite unpleasant also normally after a shower or brushing our teeth. Also on entrance to car park just as you go from the road to the stones there's quite a dip which my boyfriends car did not like. Easily fixed with some movement of the stones I imagine.

The hotel is convenient for the A5. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable , the pic area were nicely decorated for the festive season . The food in the evening was exceptional for this type f hotel
There is a railway line very close , and trains run through the night. Some of the bedrooms are above the public areas so can be noisy until they close down at the end of the evening. The breakfast was really good, the full Welsh was enough to satisfy the hungriest of souls , but there were no really lighter options.
