The location was perfect for my visits to various relatives in the area. I stayed for four nights. The hotel— especially the lovely courtyard was also perfect for entertaining, even for a family with small children at lunchtime. Wallingford itself is an interesting town with a variety of places to eat and shop. I found evening entertainment at a film show and and the local Cafe Scientifique—look for noticeboards around the town, there's quite a lot going on here. I enjoyed walks along the riverside, around the castle and chaperoning children in three excellent playgrounds, including a splashpark. By chance my visit coincided with a sudden heatwave and the annual Agatha Christie weekend. The hotel was very busy but the staff were cheerful and helpful at all times. A special thanks for the sachets of oat milk in my room, alongside the usual treats and some excellent toiletries. As an older person (75) I was happy to see a grab rail in the shower and to know there is a night porter. I have stayed at other coaching inns in the area on previous occasions and always been disappointed. The George in Wallingford restored my expectations of well-equipped, clean accommodation and good customer service. I'll be happy to return.

I found the bed rather uncomfortable. Fortunately, I can usually sleep anywhere after a long active day, so didn't lose any sleep. I would have liked to use the restaurant more, especially for breakfast, but the menu was too traditional and the food too heavy for my taste, especially in such hot weather. Perhaps it's tied to a corporate menu form the Peel group? I am also vegan which would have made four days' choices very limited. There are plenty of alternatives in town.

We stayed here as is close to RAF Benson, where our son is based. Our son was able to catch bus into Wallingford to meet us. Hotel is central to everything. Meals at hotel good, staff friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable, plenty of storage. Lots of walks to do. We visited couple National Trust properties whilst there too.

The shower was very powerful ( which was good) but so much so that first time I used it, it flooded bathroom floor! There was a noise early morning, possibly boiler or generator ( not sure) that went on for couple hours each morning.

Scott and the team were all very welcoming to this old coaching inn, with a large car park tucked away at the back, a cosy courtyard with top quality outdoor furniture and separate conference room with a license for civil ceremonies. The bar and bistro food were great value. The bedroom came with tea/coffeee making facilities, iron + ironing board, personal safe, large widescreen tv, comfy bed and an ensuite with bath & power shower; a non-slip rubber bath mat for showering shows the attention to detail. Will definitely be back

I liked that the hotel was central as I had no transport. I appreciated that my son could use the parking facilities. I really appreciated that I could order my usual breakfast of porridge every morning. I had asked for a quiet room and it was indeed nice and quiet. Thank you for the complementary biscuits!

It might have been good to have a small fridge in the room. The room was a little on the small side.

The room. The breakfast was lovely. The location is superb and we were able to park our car there for 24 hours+ Great staff and overall an extremely pleasant stay. We will be back!

We had dinner in the evening. The vegetarian choice (for one of us) was extremely limited! Only one veggie burger and not a single veggie main course. The only veggie starter (the tomato soup) might be better resumed as two tablespoons worth of soup. Otherwise, the food was great, and we do appreciate this is January.

Location was superb and we asked for a quiet room and got it. Breakfast was very good and value for money. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Bed was large and very comfortable. Room was spotless. Great to have a decent sized tv. Lovely soft towels, room warm.

The fan in our bathroom was noisy when the light went on. Disappointed that the room wasn’t valeted, we had to clean the cups we used, ask for more milk on the second day. In the paperwork in the room it said these wouldn’t happen because of Covid, really. Not an acceptable reason nowadays. It also said there would be no hairdryer or soft furnishings because of Covid, that wasn’t true they were in the room. The room wasn’t cheap so I would expect the room to be cleaned. Didn’t detract from a pleasurable stay.

Excellent position in the centre of town with parking on the premises. Had a pleasant drink in the central outside space in the evening. Staff were all very friendly. Breakfast was varied and delivered quickly. The main waiter was very jovial and efficient. When I commended him on his jolliness, so early in the morning, and ,asked him his name . ..He replied Manuel. There was a lot of laughter from other diners . I assumed it was a joke as he was Spanish..but maybe not. Anyway it was a fun memory at The George.

No TV remote and no shampoos or soaps.

The room was comfortable and clean. Every member of staff be it the cleaning team or bar were kind, helpful and considerate. The food was very good and the ale was kept well.

There is a lack of disabled parking which makes life difficult after a long day. There also needs to be a disability toilet.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel, right in the middle of the town and easy to walk to restaurants and shops. The staff on reception were both particularly friendly and welcoming, and the rooms were very comfortable. My room was very quiet and dark, which helped with a good night's sleep. The bathroom was new and everything was clean. Good products in the bathroom, and tea and coffee with biscuits in the room.

All good!
