The hotel looks a little drab and dated on the outside but the interior is very modern with a high standard of cleanliness and pleasant staff. However, being an old building it is all 'uphill and down dale' inside with no lift or step free access to any of the rooms or restaurant, so if you have any mobility issues or cannot manage stairs it may be advisable to look elsewhere. We are active seniors in our 70's and we managed reasonably well but it's getting harder! The room we were allocated was on the 3rd floor and was very clean, nicely furnished and serviced during our stay. The bar is more for the younger generation being all modern 'chrome and neon', not meant for 'real ale' drinkers but nicely appointed nonetheless. The English breakfast was very good too. The hotel is very easy to find being almost opposite the railway and bus stations. No idea what the parking arrangements might be as we travelled by train.

It's a lovely hotel, almost opposite the Whitby train station and the bus station. The hotel is very clean, usually very quiet, and has very friendly and very helpful staff. Breakfast is included, and it has events on in if you want to attend. All attractions, the beach, shops, restaurants, pubs, and other hotels are well within walking distance, with the added advantage of having the aforementioned bus and train station opposite, though there are not many trains arriving and departing at Whitby. Also, the Coop, which is just by the train station, and the whole town is littered with public houses, restaurants, and cafes well within walking distance

Not many quibbles, stairs with no customer lift.

Staff were Lovely. Very nice Breakfast. Good Shower. Separate 24 hour access door for hotel guests so you don't have to go through the busy bar area when you return on a night. Location is ideal as the bus station is just over the road so we didn't have far to carry our heavy bags. The pub/bar itself is great.

Mattress was a bit too soft for me personally but wasn't too bad. Very warm in the bathroom as I couldn't find a way to turn the heater off (during a warm day/night). Music can be heard from the room until after midnight on certain nights of the week due to events in the bar such as karaoke (but you are pre-warned about this).

On arrival, very nice service on the reception desk. Breakfast was awesome. I liked how the staff soon jumped onto the times where some breakfast items were empty and they soon refilled them. They were very helpful and welcoming. I also liked their preparation for everyday, when I went down for breakfast, the staff were cleaning the dance floor/bar area after the previous night that were full of people. Every table and flooring area was spotless. Bar service was also quick when queuing for drinks. When me and my family went out for drinks and sightseeing, the distance back to the hotel was so close which was ideal. The staff on the bar were friendly and quick with service to ensure everyone was served promptly as queues were huge at times. The sports they show also come good (Sky and TNT) I never left the bar for any other bar. They’re lots of seating areas and huge TVs. The rooms, spacious and the beds are comfy. The showers were quality, better than mine at home!

We had a lovely stay at the George Hotel, the room was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent with a good choice from full English to cereals and fruit. Very close for those travelling by bus or train. The staff were very nice. We would definitely stay again.

The bed was a little squeaky when you moved, but other than that comfortable. As has been said in some of the comments the noise from the bar can travel to the lower floor rooms, it wasn’t really a big issue for us, other than one night but we had come prepared with ear plugs.

Location was exceptional.opposite the bus and train stations.short walk to many pubs

Great hotel very busy was a little shocked by the outside but totally different inside much bigger than you think and it was nipping clean rooms were lovely as was the breakfast. Staff were really pleasant would definitely stay again its in a great spot plenty of shops on the door step.

Just the noise which you are already told about till the early hours just we were on the first floor which is better for me as there's no lift but next time I will go a floor up.

Single bed mattresses were too small for the wood frames/slabs they were on. Jiggled around a lot and was a gap between the wall and side facing the floor. Didnt get the best sleep due to this but other than this no noise or smells/etc caused any issue

The room, location and breakfast was perfect. We loved the breakfast setting especially being able to have on our plate just what we wanted and cooked to a very high standard; perfect. The staff were exceptional in every way and they should be congratulated on their professionalism.

We did not like the mirrored walls in the breakfast area; not ideal for guests with hidden disabilities. This will not stop us from booking again at The George Hotel.

Nice pub/hotel. Breakfast decent. Nothing fancy. All you need. Maybe more choice of cereals needed, or some yoghurt and fruit. But enough to cater for most people.

We were told there may be music at night, but didn't expect the loudest disco in the universe until 2am. We were on the top floor, so it must have been a lot worse further down! I would say join in or suffer it.
