Brilliant location, lovely room, good size and good quality mattress although personally found it a little firm for my liking but this is always a difficult one.

Really disappointed by the breakfast. Asked for well done bacon and sausage, neither were, snotty poached egg, tomato shown to the grill and rock hard when menu listed 'roasted' although personally I and many others would prefer tinned option as you know exactly what you'll get, beans were on a tiny 1cm sauce tray, not really a 'portion' and clap cold. I understand the chef is busy but we were the first in the dining room for a good 20 minutes so should have been much better. Cleanliness of the room was OK but could have been better. I didn't notice on booking but the steep steps and fact some of the rooms at on the 3rd floor isn't great for people with mobility issues, I think this should be made clear on booking.

Rooms are decent but access to some of the higher rooms i would not recommend for the elderly as the staircases are frighteningly steep, narrow and twisting!!! Walls are thin and I could hear every single word the occupants below were saying to each other! Very creaky floorboards which i could hear the occupant below complaining to his wife about to the point where he's even shouted up "can you stop bloody moving around up there!!!" I didn't want to but had to go down and calmly put him in his place.

Lovely quaint surroundings, staff were so lovely and helpful throughout. The building holds so much history, and my dogs were catered for throughout. I was allowed 3 dogs in my room who were loved on by all staff. The breakfast was fantastic. Recommend highly over the dinner offerings.

The boiler in our room was so loud, unfortunately, and kept me awake most of the night. There was also a lot of difficulty finding anywhere to park and difficult to drop off and bring items in. Lots of stairs but expected as this is a very old historic building. The food was underwhelming for dinner, and we were all disappointed by the portions of fish.

Lovely comfortable clean room with king size bed, wardrobe and drawers, tea/coffee, biscuits and fresh milk, en-suite with fluffy white towels, loo rolls, shampoo and shower gels. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. We tried a traditional full English and vegetarian breakfast and both were very good. Hot and tasty. The hotel has a great history with wonky walls and floors, not much soundproofing but it certainly has heaps of character. We will definitely stay again.

It was a tiny thing (and the only thing) but I couldn’t find a comfortable pillow out of 6 (but I have problems with pillows at home)!

Staff were excellent. Friendly, helpful and attentive. We booked the room at the top of the hotel, we arrived early but were allowed to leave our luggage until check-in. Once checking in our hefty luggage had already been taken up to our room. Hotel, bar and restaurant are full of charm you'd expect from such a historic building. Central location couldnt be better and no issues with noise.

Shower/bath facilities were not great but not bad either considering the age of the building so not complaint worthy really. I couldnt get tv remote to work - again, hardly complaint worthy as I didnt come to Whitby to watch tv.

Beautiful old building with lots of heritage, excellent location on the east cliff. The room was warm and spacious. Staff were friendly, helpful and very welcoming. Bottomless coffee at breakfast was really lovely quality.

WiFi was sketchy - apparently this is a problem everywhere on the east cliff, not just this hotel. The room was a little tired and dusty, not all roller blinds working, and the room wasn't serviced every day; however I think this was reflected in the fair price. Breakfast was good but they use sliced bread for breakfast sandwiches; a local Bothams roll would have been lovely!

A Gem in Whitby: 5 Stars for the White Horse and Griffin! The White Horse and Griffin absolutely deserves a 5-star rating! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and a huge shout-out to Amy who went above and beyond for us. We were delighted to be surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful room – it was spacious and spotless. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Whitby, and everything is just a short stroll away. We didn't need to use our car once! Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was delicious, with plenty of options to choose from. Overall, our stay at the White Horse and Griffin was fantastic. Thanks to the wonderful staff, especially Amy, for making it such a memorable experience. We'll definitely be back!

Great little hotel in the heart of beautiful Whitby. Friendly and helpful staff, and a fantastic large room with a big ensuite. Lots of stairs some a little steep. The location is perfect on Church Street where there are several nice pubs and the street leads to the famous steps up to Whitby Abbey. There are plenty of nice restaurants close by too. Whitby does get very busy so its a good idea to book ahead to get a table The hotel has a small popular traditional pub on the ground floor and there is a separate entrance for hotel residents at the side of the building. There is a nearby small car park. It was full when we arrived, but we only had to wait 5 minutes or so for someone to leave. This is about 100yds from hotel and at time of writing, £9.00 for a 24 hour stay. There is a larger car park on the other side of the bridge but you would need to factor in a 5 minute walk up to the hotel. It is just inside a pedestrian zone so you cant take your car to the front door to drop your bags. All in all a great place to stay.

We had a bit of a wait for breakfast - seemed like we had picked a very busy time to stop in Whitby and the staff were apologetic and helpful. everything else was great.

Gorgeous old building. Lovely breakfast with good quality ingredients. Bed and bedding good quality. staff were very good and accommodating.

I know it's a very old building and we were on the top floor and it had a gorgeous big bath in the room but took about an hour to fill with enough water for a comfortable bath. it just trickled. The only other negative was that all the doors were swollen and we had to slam to shut properly. we heard others having to do the same too which probably woke a few people!

Perfect location in the old part of Whitby. Staff helpful and friendly. There was an issue with our room not being available alternative accommodation was provided. Being such an old building lots of character, not over modernised

Wider choice at breakfast, the breakfasts were good but limited choice. Some upgrading needed, bathrooms etc would benefit from redecorating. Beds really need changing, mattresses very uncomfortable. Despite the above l would stay again
