Room was massive, hotel was a really nice old building. Receptionist was lovely. Hotel was miles better than I was expecting from some of the other reviews and really good value for money.

Some of the corridors could have done with a bit of a spruce up, but the room and the main areas of the hotel were nice and the stairway/reception area was very characterful so not even that negative tbh.

The room was nice and big and the bathroom was lovely and warm, The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of places to sit with our friends in the evening, we didn't have to sit in a busy, noisy bar. The breakfast on the first day was excellent as we could order what we wanted because the hotel was quiet. It was a buffet on the second day but that was pretty good too. The view from our room on the top floor was excellent and it only took 5 minutes to walk down from the hotel into the town. The private car park is great tooo.

I specifically asked for a room with a bath when I phoned a few days before we arrived but it was a room with a shower cubicle. By the time we'd carried our cases a long way almost to the end of the hotel, I didn't feel like carrying them back down to reception to ask to change rooms and as the room was very nice apart from that, we stayed put.

Location very good, opposite whale bones.

No room service. Had to get new toilet roll, coffee etc from reception.

Room upgraded to nice sea view,large and comfortable if a little sparsely furnished,very warm throughout stay during very cold weather,bathroom with large shower was fine if a little cool as no radiator other than heated towel rail.Breakfast choice was fine,staff throughout hotel friendly and helpful

Hotel does seem to be still refurbishing some areas but did not affect our part of the hotel or dining/bar areas.You have to be careful with on street parking near the hotel as some areas are free 31st October to 1st March but others still require disc to be purchased,however the signs are good on each street and road

I was a bit apprehensive about staying at the Royal but I needn't have worried. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean with lovely comfy beds. OK, it needs refurbishing but I wouldn't say that spoilt our stay at all. We were informed rooms are gradually been refurbished so that's good. The location was brilliant, just minutes away from the Whitby pavilion where we attended an event. If you booked a sea view room the views would be absolutely outstanding given it's elevated position. The reception staff were lovely, friendly, professional and welcoming. We didn't eat in the hotel so I can't comment on that.

It wasnt a problem for us but it is a steep walk up from the harbour which might be a problem for those with walking difficulties. It's only a ten minute walk though.

Rooms have been successfully updated from our last visit and hotel warm at all times. Staff exceptional as always. As we had our dog with us expected to sit in bar for our 5 course dinner slight problem as the girl wanted to put us in a side room on our own to which we disagreed about, soon solved by restaurant manager, compliments to chefs the meal was very good and worth every penny. First night entertainment was very enjoyable however the new years eve entertainment was a let down a short turn followed by a quiz , long spell with nothing then eventually 10 30pm things got moving then another break and another start up to midnight. At this point we left and watched the fireworks from the front of the hotel . We had a room with a sea view and as usual enjoyed our stay. Well done to all the staff for their hard work during our stay.

New years eve entertainment. I did pass on my comments.

The hotel was clean and the room we stayed in comfortable. The staff were welcoming and friendly, they were all very helpful.We liked the size of the room as one of us had a guide dog and this meant that there was enough room for her as well. The breakfast was excellent, if you had allergies or special requests these were catered for. As it's a buffet this meant that you could have as much or little as you wanted and there was so much choice. The location was great as were the sea views. I hope if it gets refurbished the character of the building isn't spoilt. Parking excellent if you have a blue badge.

As it's an old building it could do with a bit of TLC and upgrade of some of the facilities, also when coming in the front doors you had to go past some people smoking on the seats outside which wasn't pleasant.

The room was on the top floor and had a wonderful view of the harbour and sea. The bathroom was larger than I expected, with the usual WC, sink, and bath with power shower. Breakfast was very good, with a self service counter, with hot food such as bacon, sausages tomatoes etc, and a long table where you can choose a cold breakfast such as cereal, yoghurt, berries and other breakfast items.

The only things that could be improved was the mattress, which could have done with a thicker cover and the shower head was loose so didn't stay put on its holder. It kept sliding down.

The food was very good and has improved significantly. Love the position off the Royal and the fact that there is parking available. All the public rooms are off a decent standard and very clean.

We were in room 1 several problems, 3 radiators in the room we weren't able to turn any of them off, so made the room really hot. We did open the window. The bathroom radiator didn't work at all so rather cold in there. Also Hot tap was loose, cold tap had a constant drip and nowhere decent to hang towels. There was a hook on back of door put this was loose and suitable for purpose.,

This was our second visit to this Hotel. We were greeted with friendliness. We asked for a better room than we had booked and were given an upgrade for no extra cost. The views from the room of the Harbour, Beach area and the Abbey across the Esk estuary were spectacular. The included breakfast was excellent with lots of choice covering all breakfast varieties.

The Lift was out of service due to it needing a complete refurbishment. We were told this had been put on hold as the building had a protected status and was awaiting a decision before necessary alteration work could be undertaken.
