I had to cut short a Sierra backpacking vacation due to intense rain and flooding. Hwy 395 was closed for a time, making it impossible for me to drive home same day. I found Route 66 Hotel while waiting for Hwy 395 to open. I arrived late, about 9 pm, and found an absolutely delightful property and room. My room had a tiny patio with a chair, and the entire property is vintage Americana. The rooms are renovated with comfortable beds, great pillows, even a desk area. There was a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. I though my room would be noisy due to it's immediate location along Main St, but I heard nothing at all. Staff was friendly, helpful, and kind.

We were stranded on the roadside in a hot rod going to a car show and were towed in. The owners did not bat an eye at a tow truck dropping us off, which was such a stress releaser. We had the part scheduled to come in the next morning, so we just settled and waited in a welcoming room, in a place where we felt safe and settled. There was a little store across the street that had anything we needed and a microwave in the room to heat it up. The fridge kept what we had in ice chests cold and the coffee pot was a lovely bonus the next morning. The motel has been carefully upgraded and was very clean. Pride of ownership shows very clearly! Nice flooring and fun touches gave the rooms a nice feel and as it was hot out, the AC unit was more than welcome. Somehow, they made the place authentic without being old. They kept the Route 66 flavor without sacrificing any amenities. Care was given to the outside and the Route 66 theme was done well, leaving room for parking and turn arounds. We feel we get cleaner rooms in a mom and pop and this one certainly offered it!

As I was guilty of it when we bought and remodeled our small motel, this is not a huge complaint, but owners forget to insulate between the room walls when they remodel. We could hear the man snoring next door. That said, we paid 3xs the price for the room at the car show and we could clearly hear the people next door in a BRAND NEW motel through the adjoining doors. The A/C worked very well and the room was a comfortable temperature. However, it clunked on and off keeping our sleep restless. When it was blowing (on) we could not hear next door's noise and it was a lovely soft white noise that allowed for good rest, it was just hard to continue resting with the constant clunking on and off.

The motel had personality. Lots of memorabilia from the Old Route 66 era. For us it was fine and of course the price was exceptionally competitive. It's not a "Comfort Inn" but we had fun taking pictures of lots of old cars, and other stuff from many decades gone by. We were very satisfied. We had breakfast just down the street at Roy's. Very nice hole in the wall type place but breakfast was great. We always try and stay where there is a micro wave and small refrigerator. And, it did. You never know when you'll have left overs from dinner. We always bring some sodas too. This room had a table and chairs.

The beds were sufficient but would be nice if they could invest in better beds. They were still OK. Just turns out the bathroom sink has no area around it to sit things on, at least the room we had this last time. We've been there twice now in the last 10 days.

Could have used a bedside lamp, only had ceiling lamp Could have been stocked with hand towels & wash cloths. However, we didn't bother to ask staff for these items, as we had our own in our luggage. Counterintuitive shower handle operation, but we figured it out. Some funking wiring for refrig plug in, but we figured out better configuration. We needed the refrig more than the TV. The soap bar was not good for shower lathering.

Pleasantly surprised with room updates, and hotel exterior was classic Rt 66. Room was quite modern inside and very comfortable. Liked the decor, king bed, kitchen, TV, and bathroom.

Bathroom and kitchen were not as clean as we’d like to see. Mirror and faucet were smeared, as though cleaning was not completed. Possibly someone got pulled away and didn’t get to finish. Kitchen cabinet had debris in it. Kitchen sink stopper was missing.

recently renovated room, very clean, everything worked. although it was very small, that was part of its charm (it was a classic route 66 motel of the 50s vintage. classic 1940s and 1950s cars on site were a bonus feature. price at $50/night was a great value, given that it was a totally comfortable room.

I had no trouble checking in, but there was a woman from an adjoining unit who locked herself out of her room and staff did not seem to respond in a timely fashion.

Staff was very friendly. Cosy garden design. The room was newly renovated. Everything you need for a night. Room mostly clean. Good for one night.

Walls between rooms needs proper sound insulation. We had neighbours and it felt as we were in one room. Room was mostly clean, but still found some hair in the bath/toilet and on the bed.

Great value. Half the price of others & a free upgrade to a king-size be & larger room to boot. Very friendly staff. Efficient check-in & check-out. Fun collection of old cars on the property & Route 66 memorabilia.

Couldn't get the TV to change channels. Lack of sound insulation, (but ear plugs are a cheap solution!). Towels were well-worn, but clean.

The motel is undergoing renovation, and has new owners who are really working hard for your business. I have stayed here for nearly 30 years infrequently, and appreciate the place for what it is, an historic motel, second building ever constructed in Barstow, and continue to support its independent owners. Give it a try and enjoy the nostalgia.

It’s cute and historical. Appliances work. Cheaper than most older motels in town.

Carpet needs upgrading. Has bed bugs. Could give us coffee at least.
