we stayed on the “classic” part of the hotel. amazing location right on waikiki beach. the highlight was the Royal Hawaiian Symphony concert at the Beach Restaurant.

pool is small, chairs by the pool are few, beach lounge chairs and sunumbrella are rented from 8 until 5; the sunset takes place at 8; so in addition to the cost, the timing of the beach equipment leaves you out of a huge time of enjoyable beach.

Service and location were excellent. Tower room with ocean view was well worth the extra cost.

The small number of beach/pool chairs and having to compete with people to get one. People saving their chairs very early and then not even using the seats was really frustrating.

Size and view

Paying a resort fee and then having to pay $85 to reserve two chaise lounges at the pool. A total rip-off especially having to pay a resort fee. It was insulting at best

location and facilites excellent. it really is a beautiful hotel, loved the rocking chairs. our rooms in the diamond head wing had spectacular views. we loved retiring to our room late afternoon for a drink on the rocking chairs in our room looking at the beach. the vintage music and soloist piana player in the evenings was fantastic.

there were a few maintenance issues with our rooms, the sliding doors were corroded and did not seal completely, not that it really mattered as we love the sound of the ocean, they were also a little stiff to slide, one almost fell off as it got stuck but maintenace attended and did a quick fix of the doors. our toilet also blocked once during our stay, the airconditioning return air vent was falling off also. maintenance were very attentive and fixed things best they could but these rooms really need some major rerpairs despite having facelift recently. staff were really helpful.,

The location and history of the property are what drew us in.

The inconvenience of the parking lot not co-located with the hotel made it difficult to either haul luggage down several flights of stairs because there was no elevator in the parking structure, or drop off luggage at the bellhop then navigate through the flood of foot traffic upon exiting the driveway and shoot across 4 lanes of traffic to make a left turn so you can access the parking structure across the street. Also, as guests on the 20th floor, the elevators (when operational) took approximately 20 minutes of waiting and riding when used. I would have preferred a lower level so the stairs could offer another reasonable option.

Comfortable and relaxed

Didn’t like the system of the towels on sun beds. Holiday makers would come down in the morning at 6 am or earlier, put their towels on the sun beds then disappear for hours. The pool staff said they were monitoring after one hour but this was clearly not happening. A more rigorous system needs to be looked at and if the beds are not occupied within the designated hour then the towels and belongings should be removed. It spoilt our holiday

Loved the location as it was so close to the beach and waves as well as to the city and shopping. Also enjoyed the atmosphere and feel of the hotel especially that the stories & history of the hotel were so tastefully displayed & acknowledged. Loved that we could have breakfast, lunch & dinner close to the pool and beach daily and was impressed by the food and drinks provided as well as the entertainment. The rooms were very comfortable and always clean.

We found not only the hotel but Honolulu in general as a pricing location for vacation which would make it some where we would need to think twice about visiting again

My husband and I live on Oahu and had friends visiting from the mainland. We stayed for a night and it was beautiful. We got a clean and fairly large room with a partial ocean view. We liked the pool area and all the options for food however we did not eat at the hotel. I would recommend this hotel if you are willing to splurge on the the price.

The price was a bit much. Coming from a different part of the island I have to remember Waikiki prices are a level of their own. However, because our friends were staying there it made sense for us to stay there as well. It was definitely worth the price but some may not be able to rationalize the cost to other more basic hotels.

The bartenders were very personable and quick. We enjoyed all of them.

We shouldn't have to get up at 7 a.m. to get a seat at the pool only to watch people put towels and magazines on the chairs and show up around 10 a.m. There was no enforcement of the rules. Thus, we had to sit on the beach when all we had were the hotel towels. It was not comfortable. While I realize you are in the business to make money, the umbrella areas would eleviate people consuming chairs by the pool only for them to arrive hours later. Very upsetting to say the least.

We stayed in room 312 in the original building. This room has a balcony and the view to the beach and a little bit of Diamond Head. We could also watch weddings in the garden area below. The double doors opened to let in the sound of the surf all night. Delightful. The staff was really friendly and helpful.

The price started at $499, but with the resort fee and taxes it ended up being $638 per day. The mattress had a hump in the middle because it needed to be replaced. The bathroom was small, but worked out fine.
