The room was spacious and clean, and the sound isolation was good- no noise from the metro/street or the neighbors. Convenient location with lots of restaurants, bars and metro station around the corner.

The concept of “destination fee” of 15$ (plus tax) per night on top of the room rate is beyond ridiculous. A staff member woke us up with a phonecall at 8am (!!) on our checkout day to inform us that we need to pay the extra nonsensical fee (which was not mentioned when checking in). Then, at checkout nothing was requested (even after we asked about it), but then a charge was taken from the creditcard anyway. No self-respecting hotel should go through so much trouble to collect these nonsensical fees, having a room rate (whatever that amounts to) should include everything, as is the common practice in most places. Waking us up at 8am to ask for more money was so weird and unprofessional.

it was extremely comfortable and relatively central to what we required.

on arrival i asked the receptionist to add on an extra night. gave her credit card &c. but she didn’t do it. this was stressful when we were told we had to leave, but the manager was wonderful and rectified everything.

Hotel staff were very excellent; breakfasts and weekend brunches very good; evening meal choice fine. NY is good place for a romantic break. The hotel location is good for subway connections to Manhattan.

I know parts of Williamsburg. The location of this hotel was interesting but had its limitations - no coffee lounges or restaurants within walking distance; only corner grocery stores or liquor stores

After reading some of the comments I went to the hotel with concerns, but everything was of the highest standard, proximity to the subway very big plus! To manhattan road takes max 15 min. Bed very large and comfortable, room clean, staff very friendly and helpful. A big plus is free to leave your luggage at the hotel after check out. I had concerns about the additional hidden fees that some people talked about in their reviews, but I was informed of all the additional costs as soon as I arrived at the hotel ($200 deposit, $20 per night tourist fee, and in-room beverages coffee, tea and water).

The only downside is the loud subway which can be heard at night if one is a poor sleeper, but earplugs take care of the problem.

We booked our room far in advance so paid £140 per night, we were so impressed by the room and the furnishings. The shower room was beautiful with lovely materials. The bed was really comfortable and the amenities in the room were great (smart tv, coffee machine, space for suitcases etc). The staff were all very friendly, there seemed to always be someone at the desk who was helpful and welcoming. The gym facilities were a great bonus, it’s small but it has everything you need for 1-2 people.

The lift was out of use a few times, but they were quick to try and get it repaired. The staff put signs up very quickly and offered to help us with our bags down the stairs as we were leaving.

First time staying in Brooklyn having always done so on Manhattan on previous trips to NYC. We loved the location of the hotel and Williamsburg in general. Hewes St subway (J/M) is just 100yds away so you can be on Manhattan within 10 mins of leaving the hotel - we also returned a couple of times via Lorimer St on the L line, which is just a 10 minute walk in the other direction. The hotel was modern, secure, clean, bright with a funky vibe which we liked. We had two rooms for our party of 4 (2 adults/2 older teens) which were well equipped, clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our rooms were at the front of the building on the third floor and the street was fairly quiet so we always slept well and it was great to return from the wonderful craziness of Manhattan each day to the relative calm of Williamsburg. The hotel staff we encountered were always professional, friendly and helpful and provided us with bottles of water and coffee pods on request throughout our stay. It is true that there are not many restaurants as such in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, but there are plenty of the usual neighbourhood stores and delis. We particularly liked the delightful Nyla Cafe just one block north of the hotel where the coffee was excellent and you also could find a light breakfast while planning your NY sightseeing for the day. The main area of bars and restaurants in Williamsburg is only a 10-15 minute walk west, however, where there are a plethora of high quality dining options, as well as the waterfront (Domino Park etc) where the views across to Manhattan on the sultry Summer evenings were stunning. We never felt unsafe in the area and even walked back from the Williamsburg waterfront (as well as DUMBO) late evening a few times, and loved exploring these districts and the different communities that live in them. We wanted a local, but well connected, Brooklyn neighbourhood for our trip which 42 Hotel provided. We'll be back!

The one lift in the hotel did have some operational issues during our stay and was out of order a few times. Although this wasn't a problem for us as we just used the stairs, it could be an issue for some older people and/or anyone with reduced mobility.

Great location, most reception staff were very helpful and the hotel was spotless. Comfortable beds and wardrobe space was a plus.

Four out of the six times we attempted to eat in the restaurant the kitchen was closed. This was a shame because the food was really nice, and breakfast would have been convenient, especially on the morning of my daughters wedding. This meant I had no time to sort alternative arrangements, and resulted in me having nothing to eat until after the wedding, which was mid afternoon. Some warning would have been very helpful.

Overall, very pleased with our experience staying in this place! Absolutely would book again when returning to NYC. We were a little worried about the stay prior to arrival due to negative Google reviews. However, price point and accessibility to public transit were our priorities for this trip trying to squeeze in so much sight seeing in a few days; Hotel 42 did not disappoint us at all!!! The close proximity to two subway stations and several bus stops allow easy access for travelers utilizing public transit. The neighborhood was recommended by locals and friends that have stayed in Brooklyn. Felt safe even being outside through the wee hours of the morning. Very affordable rate for the area and NYC in general. Check-in was quick and easy, deposit required upon arrival. We appreciated the aesthetics of the hotel and thought that the room was great. Overall, pretty clean and comfortable. Not perfectly spotless, but this was not an issue for our group. There was some noise from cleaning staff and other guests but that is par for the course when staying in any hotel; this also did not impact our group at all - we slept great! Everyone was right when they said the mattress was very comfortable! Being able to open a small window for fresh air was a nice and unexpected touch! The service we did receive from staff was excellent. They were very courteous, kind, and accommodating. The neighborhood provided all the food/drinks/goods we needed. A well-stocked market and Walgreens about a quarter mile down.

They do not have a liquor license which deterred us from dining with the group we were with.

42 Hotel met me and my family's expectations in every way! The hotel was clean, in a great location, and the staff was friendly & courteous. My wife and I grew up in the neighborhood and moved down south years ago. It's great to have a comfortable and convenient hotel within the neighborhood that we can stay at when visiting our hometown.

My family and I have no complaints about 42 Hotel. The only change that I would recommend is including parking in the hotel stay or lowering the nightly parking fee, which is currently $51 per night. My family and I drove 12 hours to visit Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and enjoy time in our old neighborhood. It would have been great to utilize the empty parking spaces in the back of the hotel and not drive around the neighborhood trying to find a parking space for the night.

The staff was really friendly and welcoming from tips where to head to eat, to storing our luggage to calling an Uber for the airport. The rooms (we stayed 3 nights and 2 nights in the one week while heading off over the weekend) were very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location was extremely handy with two subway stations a very short walk away and a bus stop 2 min up the road. Lively Williamsburg downtown only 10-15 min walk away. A nice touch was the free little bottle of wine, chocolates and bottles of water in the room. The motorised black out blinds were great to help us get over the jet lag.

The coffee and tea making machine was quite temperamental in both rooms. You do hear the noise of the local train (which we didn’t mind too much, because the close stop was a trade off for that).
