- Great location - close to a subway station, very central, close to great restaurants, and all locals know this hotel. - Discount on the red Tashkent City Bus. - Lively neighbourhood, but very quiet inside. - Very nice and fresh breakfast spread, including vegan options. - Clean. - 95% of the staff are friendly and helpful. Most speak English very well. - Rooms facing the square have a great view but the A/C system is old and loud. - Rooms facing the back have balconies and the view is also very nice. The A/C is modern and it doesn't make as much noise as the older ones.

- A very old building and old-fashioned decor. I expected it and it was part of the charm, but it was to a higher degree. - The gym equipment is old and dirty. - I got stopped by security twice when coming in. I understand it is for safety reasons, but it was an uncomfortable interaction.

The central location, the whole atmosphere taking you back in soviet time, the great view over the square. the lady responsible for communication via booking.com is extremely nice and helpful! the ladies at the reception were also very kind as well as the picolo!

if you want this place to improve its overall score please take immediate actions against the male receptionist “doniyor”. this person has no place to work in your hotel. he is unprofessional and as you can see from many bad reviews he is the main reason people leave you this low scores. this guy allowed himself to talk disrespectfully to me every time, wanted to overcharge me, insulted me and was so arrogant and unprofessional! please remove him from the hotel

This is not a usual hotel, this is a city landmark. It represents the genius loci of Tashkent, a masterpiece of sovietic brutalism. This is the spirit you need to adopt when spending one or more night at the Uzbekistan Hotel: the accomodation and hospitality standards cannot be compared to the ones of modern top-end hotels, but you're time-traveling to another hera. A must, in my opinion.

It's almost an experience in itself staying here, and I was lucky enough to get a 15th floor room with a super view to the park. The room was also large, which was great. Breakfast buffet very good. Staff very friendly all around the hotel, on the reception desk, in the breakfast room, in the bar. Good English spoken. I felt very welcome. The location is excellent too – right in the centre, near a metro station too.

The room furnishings and fittings were a bit tired, but perhaps not much has changed since it was first built. The TV was tiny too – could barely see it from bed :) Also, if you're high up, you might wait ages for the lift. These are small things though, and I'd recommend staying here!

My room was fairly clean, featured a small fridge and a large balcony, and took me right back to the good old days! Almost everything in the room was worn and that’s exactly what I expected, so no disappointment there. Bathroom was fairly clean as well and came with a bathtub. Staff were neutral (neither good nor bad), which is typical in most former Soviet republics. Breakfast was great, regardless of what rate I paid for the room*, as they had many good choices, and it was served in a large dining hall – I don’t really know why people have complained about it in the reviews. As a mostly vegetarian, I had no trouble getting a full plate every single morning, and that can be a tough ask in Uzbekistan. There’s a bar and a restaurant on the top floor and the food is good. The hotel also features a currency exchange office, and the rates are as good as anywhere else. This massive hotel is located in the centre of the city and there is a metro station right next to it. *I actually ended up staying here for four nights in total and I have to stress that it was during the low season, and during COVID, so room rates were very attractive. I know from the past that rooms at this hotel go for much higher rates during high season and without the “contagious atmosphere”, so my review reflects the rate I paid. Basically, you would stay here only if you wanted to experience Soviet-era accommodation, where rooms are worn and everything doesn’t work to perfection, and only if you got a good deal for your room. Otherwise, it’s not really worth it; higher room rates increase your expectations, and you might end up disappointed, just like many others, based on all the negative reviews here.

Water pressure in the shower was poor. Wi-Fi signal was very weak in my room, and I often had to sit in the lobby to get a decent connection.

This hotel is an experience. I also think it's the most affordable hotel in the central area of Tashkent, on top of that. If you are in Tashkent for tourism purposes, I highly recommend staying at least one day at this hotel, since it's a beautiful example of Soviet Brutalist architecture that is faded around the edges in an intriguing way. In terms of the practicalities, the breakfast here is solid, and there are 3 other food/beverage options accessible (a bar and café on the lobby level, and then the top-floor bar/restaurant which is definitely worth checking out for the view). The shower had good water pressure and the bed was reasonably comfortable. This hotel has a lot of "flavor" to it, overall. It is "outdated" in its décor, but that is part of the charm. I had a room on the back side of the building, which had a large balcony. This hotel is also very generous with bottled water - they provided 2 a day, free of charge.

The main reason why this hotel is not my mainstay in Tashkent is that the internet barely worked in the room I was in - likely because I was on the 15th floor. (It was fine in the lobby.) You also do have to hike a bit to get to a shop or restaurant or anything else in the immediate area, as the hotel is placed in front of the Amir Temir Square and the area is more "performative" than practical. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, you might have problems - this hotel allows smoking in the rooms and in all of the restaurants. I also think that, overall, the rooms could stand a deep-cleaning. Housekeeping was very much on-point, but I think that the curtains need to be laundered and perhaps a fresh coat of paint.

Historic Soviet era hotel. Authentic and feels like a crossroads of travel and culture. very close to the incredible Metro. I would return here.

I was happy - so nothing negative.

Fun stay in an older style hotel. Hotel Uzbekistan is known by everyone and easy to get to by taxi, foot, or public transport. I really liked my room and the bed was very comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. I think it's worth staying here for at least one night because it's kind of an 'establishment' in Tashkent.

No way to control the temperature if it's too hot or cold! I called down to the desk for a master because my room was quite hot, especially in the summer heat. They were able to open up the covering on the vents more which was quite dusty but did cool the room down more. Also, the doors have been painted over quite a few times and don't quite close or stick on closing.
