June 2023

The Birch Resort is under new management, and the new manager had only been in place one week when we visited in June 2023. The new manager was very helpful and friendly.

The shared kitchen unit did not have hot water for washing dishes, but the manager assured us that this would be attended to. The parking is out the front, so if you're there for several days, its not an issue, but if you were there for only one night you'd be lugging your bags some distance from the carpark and back again the next morning. This wasn't a problem for us, as we were there for six nights. Also, there was no identifying branding on the front, not even a street number, so we had to ask next door at a competing establishment to find out where we were staying. The branding related to the previous owners' operation, but now its under a new name. I think they'll have it fixed soon

Good convenient location near Port Douglas. Comfortable room and large comfortable bed. Largest shower we had on our trip and good hot water and pressure. Pool to use. Easy after hours check in process. Responsive and communicative staff.

Signage was very weird and confusing, which made it difficult to find the hotel. It's signed as Uyoung Dive Resort pretty much everywhere-no Birch Resort in sight-and this wasn't mentioned at all, so we definitely felt nervous when we were looking for it and trying to check in. Maybe they've recently switched names? Either way, correct signage would have made things perfect.

this is the cleanest motel like accomodation I have EVER experienced!!! having traveled a lot around the world and stayed in dingy hostels and five star resorts this place ticked all the boxes for budget accomodation for a quick stay! it was just me (mum) and my 13 month old and I felt soooooo safe the whole time and as mentioned so clean I did not have to worry about little baby hands picking up dirt and unnecessary germs!! there’s is more than enough car spaces and is not far out of town I was even able to walk with baby in tow :)

that I didn’t stay longer!

Room large and clean. Owner could not be more helpful. Arrived very early, dumped my bags expecting to not be able to check in and walked to town yet as soon as the room was cleaned o received a phone call to say I could check in. It is a 20min walk to the main shops which allows it to be of such great value would stay here again

Kitchen was a bit basic but the new owners are gradually upgrading facilities.

Excellent location, beautiful pool & outdoor area, very lovely couple that recently took ownership of the place. Great aircon and outdoor area to hang clothes to dry - very comfy beds (but would have liked an extra pillow per person).

Wifi was not available in the rooms & data signal was very low, so meant had to be outside in the heat (middle of summer) to use phones. Requested room to be serviced mid stay, and beds were made and fresh towels given, but mugs/cups were not cleaned - but not the end of the world, just strange it was left out of the service. Didn't use the kitchen, but walked through and noticed food in the strainer in the sink (which was there for our whole stay), overall uninviting kitchen to use.

The property is good value for money when compared with other properties in Port Douglas. The best part was the bathroom which was very modern.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable and in need of an update. The pillows were amongst the worst I've ever encountered in my time travelling to over 20+ countries. They were so thin they were pliable and flattened out like a towel. I fail to believe that the property can't provide better pillows to their guests. The WIFI is poor also.

Beautiful, deep pool. Large, clean room. Kind, attentive staff when I needed to contact them. Great value for money. Bathroom was nice and warm to dry or bathers/ clothes, as you can close the bathroom door to keep the bed room cool and air conditioned. They provide pool towels too which is great because it means we didn't need to get our own towels wet before we left on our travels in our rented car.

You do need to drive into town but it's a small price to pay for well priced accommodation.

November 2022

The property had lots of amenities which was great. They offered towels ( beach and shower towels), tes and coffee, cups etc. The room was well air conditioned and the beds were super comfy,

The staff weren’t the friendliest. They made us feel bad for booking through booking.com as they slated the service. We were directed to the wrong room at first which only had one double bed, when we had originally booked two doubles. This was easily resolved but we felt slightly uncomfortable by the staff as they seemed annoyed. They weren’t very approachable. Staff were not present for checking in and out and we had to ring them on both occasions to get into our room and also hand back in the room key.

Simple, clean and easy. Pool, kitchen and laundry facilities were great. I liked the location, approx 20min walk in to town and a 10min walk to the beach, being a walker I loved travelling to and from town or to the beach and back, and most importantly, burning off some of the amazing food you get to indulge in.

Nothing to not like, rooms and amenities were absolutely fine for the price you pay.

Stayed at the Uyoung for 3 days/2 nights. Lovely little no frills motel type resort. Big spacious rooms, clean bathrooms, nice big pool with sun loungers. Aircon worked great in the rooms and they also had a fan. It’s a 15-20min walk in to town but there are Beam electric scooters right at the doorstep so you can zip into town in less than 10min. Paula at reception was great - helpful and very welcoming. The kitchen and dining area is closed due to covid but that’s fine - plenty of restaurants in town (check out Chillis pizza!) Couldn’t recommend it more! Will gladly return :)
