The location, the comfortable rooms, the view and the kind staff - particularly the concierge desk in the person of Vivian who made a note and remembered to book a restaurant for us on the very day and time the bookings were opening. And this is great service even before we arrived. The spa/gym and pool areas are very clean and the staff are very nice making sure you have a great experience. It’s without doubt not a cheap hotel but worth the quality of a 5 star. The room view on the bund was second to none and better than most of the other hotels and restaurants around. So much that when we arrived we decided to have room service with that view instead of heading out. Food also is great with a vast choice. Everything in the room and in the services offered is made to make your stay comfortable. In particular the rooms are beautifully furnished and very sound proof for a great sleep. We felt very relaxed in the room, even if it’s directly opposite the hustle and bustle of the Bund. We do travel a lot as a family for leisure and as individuals for work and I must say this is one of the best hotels I stayed at without them boasting too much about it. Which makes this property special. It’s a chain but with a top end boutique hotel approach. Very recommended to have a top stay in Shanghai.

Nothing negative at all, maybe the breakfast does not have as big choice as I have seen in other hotels of same category, but quality is still great. And perhaps it’s a little bit awkward that they make you sign off a bill for breakfast even though it’s included in the room rate by reassuring you it’s not accounted on check out if your offer includes breakfast. Normally they should know which rooms include breakfast or not. However this is such a minor thing to mention.

This is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed at, the room was amazing and the staff would put an exceptional amount of effort into ensuring that the experience was as comfortable and luxurious as possible. We stayed in the deluxe garden room however luckily as we were on floor 12 and the corner of the hotel we were also able to have a stunning view of the Huangpu river and skyline! The room has all the facilities you would expect from a hotel of this quality and the bed is very large and super comfortable. There is a good sized bathroom and walk in wardrobe which has excessive storage space for storage of your belongings, a special shout out to the staff who suprised my girlfriend with cake and a birthday card, she loved it! We particularly enjoyed visiting the rooftop bar as the atmosphere and views at night are amazing, This hotel is perfect if you are looking for the highest quality stay in Shanghai city centre. We look forward to returning!

Due to the timing of our visit aligning with the international expo the increased security at the hotel made entrance and exit like being at airport security however this was only a minor inconvenience and an understandable one.

This is my second stay at the Peninsula. After my first visit I truly loved it & decided to come back. Upon returning after few weeks, and after check-in. I noticed that my second room is way smaller than my first stay. So came back to the reception and informed them that I came back just for the spacious room & large windows. & that I will be staying for a week this time. The wonderful team of the Peninsula upgraded me to a Suite where I wasn’t only happy but so comfortable. I will definitely come back to the Peninsula and will make sure to book the suite as it truly exceeded my expectations. Thanks to the wonderful team of the Peninsula. Everything was perfect. Also The location is perfect and close to all destinations needed.

Nothing.

It is located right on the Bund with all its attractions. Staff is very accommodating, excellent breakfast.

It is outdated when it comes to climate control: our room had this “special panel” which was supposed to control the temperature in the room. Well, it didn’t. When we arrived late in the evening it was freezing cold in the room, adjustment didn’t change anything. The blankets were quite thin, so we spent our first night shivering. The next day the consierge sent an engineer, who said that everything is in working order, meaning, nothing can be done. They did provide us with an additional blanket and more firm pillows ( the original one were feather thin). This situation did spoil a very good impression of the overall great hotel. A simple thermostat on the wall with two buttons would be perfect.

This is a beautifully atmospheric hotel that, for us, more than lived up to its reputation. It was my fiancée's birthday, and we were generously upgrade to a wonderful suite with spectacular river views. Gorgeous roses, chocolates and a birthday cake added the perfect finishing touch. The staff were all extremely professional and friendly throughout - especially Mr Danny Hu, who warmly welcomed us and introduced us to our suite, bringing a real personalised feel to our stay. Finally, breakfast in the impressive lobby was luxurious with excellent service.

Unfortunately, our meal at the Michelin-starred Yi Long Court was very disappointing. Although the service was good and the environment pleasant, the food was overall quite bland and uninteresting, especially given the high prices. It's no exaggeration to say we've eaten far better Cantonese (or any) food at simple street-side places, which is quite shocking. I really couldn't recommend it, and wish I had chosen to book a table in the lobby instead. It was also a pity the other restaurants and bars were all closed, presumably because of COVID-19.

Nice staff, including Duty manager Harris and Leslie a staff member of the Sir Elly’s terrace restaurant who went above and beyond to help out. Nice room too.

Room was too hot and a/c was not working initially. Due to special event breakfast in Lobby was not available for 2 days without prior warning. Substitute breakfast opportunity was not equivalent experience. Too many social media influencers taking pictures all over the ground floor of the property.

I booked a room facing the Huang Po river and best of all I was given on with direct view of Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Just so beautiful. This makes it all worth the price to pay :-). The staffs are all very well trained, polite. Most of all Danny and Ray (I may get the names wrong but they are the only 2 guys at the concierge) are superb. Thank you.

I have stayed in many luxury hotels. Peninsula Shanghai was the first for my Peninsula experience. I have to say that I am surprised that there isn't a personal message. I would think a personal written message in the room 'Dear Ms. Lee....' would have put Peninsula a notch up from Peace.

Two nights at the peninsula was the perfect end to our trip in China and really made our experience in Shanghai extra special. From the spacious room (with a dressing room and river view!), to the stunning facilities (particularly loved the pool, sauna and steam room!) everything is so well thought through. Breakfast was ample and delicious! All of the staff are so lovely and the concierge team are also excellent and booked our dinners in for us which was much appreciated. Highly recommend staying here!

Everything was perfect!

September 2023

On my way to Dalian, had a one-day layover stop in Shanghai and wanted to have a taste of the city. My room and the hotel hall and interiors was so great that I didn't know what to do: whether to stay in the room, to go to the rooftop bar at the hotel or to go out for a walk. Every single detail of this hotel is carefully taken into account, specially in the room: the towels, the linen, the bed, the bathroom, the music sound, the furniture, the lights, the windows. In short, the room that I was asigned was close to perfection. Even the coffee available in the room (Nespresso) to kickstart the day tasted like no other. The view of the city from the rooftop bar is amazing.

After thinking and re-thinking I could not find a single thing that I didn't like about this hotel.
