This very basic place but situated in exceptional place. If you are looking for hotel in this area you are also interested in quetzales, and here you can see them just from restaurant zone or from balcony. It's cloud forest on the altitude around 2700, so it's pretty cold and hotel is without heating, but they provide a lot of blankets, so it's ok. This place also give you access to well maintained trails in cloud forest, so need to go to National Park ;)

They have electrical heater for water and it's not the most powerful, so water is just warm even with low pressure.

A real 'cabin in the woods' feel, lots of exposed wood, creaky floorboards, a big fireplace, home cooked food. We loved it! The surrounding forest is gorgeous, endless trails to explore (but it's a high elevation, so take it easy) You'll need to wrap up warm (cold at night) and be prepared to see Quetzals from the dining room!

Private rooms didn't have locks (never a problem, but an easy thing to fix) No curtain on one of the three windows (would be good for insulation)

Amazing place in a beautiful environment on the edge of the national park. We loved everything! It's like sleeping in the wooden mountain hut, with a fireplace, plenty of blankets and hot showers. It's simple and rustic, but with a charm. The best thing, except kilometres of jungle trails and superb birdwatching, is the owner Bedrich and his staff. Girls in kitchen do great job (especially Cris!). But the real treasure there is Jairo, local guide, naturalist and cook in one person, who's got endless knowledge about birds, nature, and even rock music 😁!

We couldn't stay forever ☹️

A Quetzal could be seen from our window in the morning! Fantast location, extensive trail network - you are basically getting a lodge experience for the price of a hostel. Laid back atmosphere with friendly bilingual hosts. When we saw a strange rodent on a night walk in the forest, the owner immediately obtained identification from an expert! Simply one of the best places I ever stayed in.

It's a bit cold in the night and all movements by the other guests are easily heard. It doesn't detract from the wild experience, but come prepared!

Had an amazing time at Iyok Ami! The host, Bedrich was super fun, friendly, and hilarious! It was our first stop on the trip and it really put the vacation on a great note. Loved all the hiking trails on the property (over 7 kilometers) with tons of bird life. Loved the cold plunge, thanks for making our stay so special!

This was the best place we stayed in in Costa Rica. Location is great with excellent views. We were interested in birdwatching and saw 4 quetzals very nearby. This is a small rustic lodge so don't expect luxury but the staff are excellent, the food basic but good and cheap and there is an excellent bookshelf and stacks of 70s/80s LPs for entertainment. Jairo, the birding/nature guide is excellent and very good value for money. Bedrich is also very friendly and knowledgeable. It gets very cold at night but there is a good fire and stacks of blankets in the bedroom. Wifi was OK for a place as remote as this. There are excellent walks from here but be prepared for steep climbs and descents. Like many other reviewers we would not hesitate to return - Thanks to everyone there

- We spotted a Quetzal from the shared area :) - Very kind and helpful staff. - Incredible location in the mountains with breathtaking view. The lodge has their own hiking trails (about 7km, but a lot of up and down and multiple river crossings). Actually liked it better than MonteVerde. Also the staff provided us with boots. - Fireplace in a separate common area to keep warm in the evening. Very cozy. - A lot of blankets in the room to keep you warm at night. Makes a comfy bed. - View from the common area is amazing, which really lends itself for chill afternoons reading/watching over the forested hills.

- It gets very cold during the morning, evening and night. The place is not isolated well and doors are usually open. Not an issue for us, but expect to wear a jacket inside. Also showering needed bravery in the morning due to the temperature. - Can get a bit noisy at night with the road nearby, barking dogs and people around. However, had worse nights in Costa Rica. - Bit pricy for what you get.

The location of Iyok Ami is wonderful. We were able to see Quetzales directly from the shared dining room. There are different hiking paths belonging to them, where you can enjoy the cloud forest. The hike to the waterfall was very beautiful and pleasantly challenging.

It was a bit cold in the night, but we had extra blankets, what made it work perfectly well.

Amazing place! 🥰 There is a wonderful forest with hiking trails and waterfall. Some of the trails are challenging, but it worth it! Natural and pure as it is. Enjoy the nature there. Bedrich is a very nice host and help a lot with his Tipps, about where to go and what to see. You need to try food there, it is local one and so delicious! Especially the homemade drinks, like ginger tee or berry smoothie. It is fresh in the mountains and I could sleep very good, because there are a lot of blankets. 100% recommended 👌

Staying at Iyok Ami was a great experience. The hotel has its own hiking trails into the cloud forest, so there is no need to go to the Los Quezales national park. We really enjoyed hiking here! The dinner was homemade and delicious. Yes, it gets very cold at night in the area, but the hotel has a fireplace and plenty of blankets. And the breakfast with a view is just incredible.

Due to the open fire it gets pretty smokey inside in the evening.
