The room was spacious for just one person, everything very clean. the breakfast was lovely and the area where you go to eat is really nicely decorated and has lovely interior. the staff were very kind and friendly. I mostly used this as a place to stay whilst recovering jet lag and before heading to elsewhere in Costa Rica but the area was the only nice and safe area in San Jose with lots of cool bars & restaurants.
As others mentioned there is a train that runs early morning but you will hear that anywhere in Barrio Escalante and I would rather hear that than be in the other areas of the city. It’s not super fancy but comfortable and very clean.

We loved this place. It is a small hotel with basic accommodation and the staff/management are friendly and helpful. The area is excellently located in Barrio Escalante which is an up and coming neighbourhood with lots of restaurants, including a number of vegan ones. The breakfast was good and accommodating. It was a great area to walk around and is an easy 15 minute walk to museums one way or the university the other way. We subsequently booked again with this hotel for each time we were in San Jose as we travelled about the country. We would definitely stay here again on future trips.
I can’t think of anything.

It met all my expectations. The best things: - LOCATION: I just spent 3 days in San Jose but that neigbourhood was definitely my favourite. Nice streets for walking, seemed safe (and that's what also the locals told us), lots of restaurants on the same street ( I loved especially the next door restaurant Sofía Mediterráneo with it's great Turkish owner and Greek manager, my son loved the Harry Potter restaurant), supermarkets nearby, shopping centre (Mall San Pedro) ca 10 minutes, gast station nearby, 30 minutes walking to the centre, 10 minutes to the Parque Francia (clubs and bars). - breakfast: 3 nice choices so you won't get fed up on the second day - staff: friendly, polite, helpful, speak English, nice cat Claus and another shy cat - facilities: clean room, big toilet with a fridge :-), OK shower, nice lobby/restaurant area, nice court with a sitting area, space for car parking PS. I found a nice car rental app Zipcar, what I used. As the app had 3 parking spaces/3 cars just across the street from the hotel (in front of the language school), it was very convenient. :-)
If you are expecting anything luxury, then that's not the place. It's simple but good! The wifi didn't work well in the toilet. :) Some more electricity sockets would be great! The trains in the morning started to make noise ca 6 AM - use earplugs. :)

It is a very beautiful, renovated house with tons of character. Every room is named after a jungle animal, there are two cats on the property and super friendly staff who makes your coffee for breakfast. The location is great, close to many restaurants although it may get loud in the neighborhood in the evening. We stayed one night there and thought it was a great choice and a fair price (breakfast is included)
Towels :( We couldn't dry ourselves with them. Luckily we had an extra towel we always take with us when we travel.

We stayed here for two nights, coming directly from the Airport in San José. The Hotel is situated in the centre of San José's party zone, which made our arrival on a saturday evening a little complicated, but the staff was very helpful to squeeze our car in the provided little parking lot. The breakfast was tipical costarican style, with good coffee, the restaurant in the evening provided good food, even though - as everywhere in Costa Rica - overpriced. The staff was really nice and friendly. The Hotel is within 30 minutes walking distance to the city centre, with many restaurants, pubs and clubs in the direct neighbourhood. It felt safe to walk around even by night. All in all we had a good first stay on our trip, mostly because of the nice common area/ restaurant at the entrance of the Hotel and the lovely staff. If you are looking for a basic, clean place to stay at San José with welcoming staff, but not caring so much for the outfit of your room, this ist the right place.
The room was clean, but quite underequipped, with partly broken furniture, hot water not working and directly adjacent to the parking lot. Extremely noisy from out- and inside the Hotel. So the room wasn't at all as shown in the pictures. A safe in the room would be most convenient. Price/Performance-ratio is definately overrated.

Cute little place. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast. Cute room with big bathroom.
There were 4 of us and our son had his bed set up on the floor and it was very hard. He’s 16 and is able to adjust in which he did for 2 nights but wouldn’t opt for that kind of sleeping arrangements again. There were wood slabs. We also asked for extra blankets our 1st night and were told they didn’t have any so it was very chilly for all of us. I think it was a communication barrier though because I mentioned it at check out and I was told they did have extra blankets.

Loved the restaurant and the food. Really nice, airy atmosphere with a courtyard at the back. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is located on a street with a lot of different choices of restaurants.
There’s a commuter train that runs less than a block away and will likely wake you up at about 6am every morning. While I felt pretty safe, as a solo (female) traveller, I would have liked to have a deadbolt on my door for extra security.

Although the hotel was basic, it was absolutely spotless. The staff are fantastic and very helpful. the big breakfast will easily see you through the day! The beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were really clean. Bedlinen and towels were fine. The area is chock-full of really good restaurants and bars. Although buzzing at night the area quietens down quickly. It’s quite close to a railway line so it can be a bit noisy during the day, but not annoyingly so.
All great for the price

The room was clean, and the atmosphere was lovely. There is off-street parking, which we understand is hard to find. The service is top-notch. The breakfast, which was included, was excellent.
The hotel is located very close to a train crossing. Therefore, when the trains went by, they tooted their horns. Fortunately, that didn't happen in the middle of the night. The bed mattress was not the greatest.

The beautiful open area where we had breakfast and lunch. The food was great and the staff was so nice. It was in a nice neighborhood with lots of restaurants and in walking distance to the National museum.
A fan in the room would have been nice, but the weather in San Jose was surprisingly cooler than expected so we didn't miss the air conditioning as much as we thought we would..
