Very nice hotel grounds / cozy breakfast and dining area / beautiful beach nearby / nice staff / comfortable beds
Make sure to know each other for a while as a couple - you will hear all toilet sounds, no door, wall, whatsoever / very thin walls - you can hear every word of your neighbors or even hear their snoring…

The staff are wonderful, a real credit to the hotel. They could not be more helpful, friendly and professional. Thank you to Shila, Felix, Daniel and Daniel. The hotel is beautiful. The setting is stunning, the rooms are lovely.
The restaurant! It NEVER opens for lunch. It serves a few pizzas, most, but not all evenings. I planned to have 5 meals in the restaurant and it was only open for 1 of them. This is a 5 star hotel in a semi remote location and you can't eat there most of the time. I was extremely disappointed, especially that Jose (the reservations manager) didn't inform me of this despite me enquiring about the restaurant prior to my visit. This really let down my stay. PS: I would have rated the hotel 10 if I could have eaten there.

Very beautiful decor and savvy layout of the room, lovely breakfast and pleasant staff. Smooth arrival in the middle of the night by the night guard. Comfy bed and check-in flexible, good communications with the personnel by WhatsApp.
Isolation of the wall is not great and sound travels.

- Super spot for a first stay on the Caribbean coast. The location was in a quieter, safe area past Puerto Viejo which we loved. Only a 5min walk or less to the private beach Playa Grande, where you’ve got the whole place to yourself away from hot spots. - All staff were genuinely very friendly and happy! The service provided was great and someone was always there answer any questions relating to our stay, things to do and see, or which drink to take. It was a wonderful greeting upon our arrival as well :) - The welcome coconut drink was cool, plus so refreshing! All cocktails we had and food which we ordered for lunch/dinner were delicious, as well as being fair value compared to other restaurants in the area…rather practical when it was already dark outside and we wanted to avoid driving. Breakfast was a fun experience everyday choosing 1 of the 5 (or 6) options on the menu and enjoying the fresh fruit alongside of the dishes. You’ll eat/drink well.
- It’s how the rooms are set out, however, we found it a little awkward having no seperate door between the bed/chill area and the toilet. Fear not, there’s a wall covering 75% but one must always stay put in that spot to allow the other to have their privacy.

Very nice decor and chic quite place. breakfast was very good and staff nice. Flexibility at check in and check out was very appreciated.
Walls are thin and you can hear your neighbours. not enough visibility for activities proposed.

This is paradise! The hotel is located in the jungle between the main road and the beach and nature is all around. Monkeys, birds, everything is around! The hotel itself is very beautiful! The rooms are around the pool next to the reception and the bar/restaurant. A short walk to the beach(3 minutes) and to town(15 minutes via the beach or 20 minutes via the road). It’s a very dark walk at night, but it’s safe and the restaurants in town have great food and they are cheap. The restaurant at the hotel offers great breakfasts, lunch and dinner(yes, it’s quite expensive and they add tax and service to the price, but the food is great! Not only pizzas as some say) The cocktails are great as well! The personal is wonderful, sweet and very helpful!! You feel like a king or queen! Fabrizio, Manfred, Christian, and all the others, thank you for a wonderful stay!

Exotico is a very nice newer boutique hotel located outside of nearby Manzanillo but situated away from (20 minute drive) the noise/ traffic and crowds of Puerto Viejo. With that said, you definitely need a car to get to any off-site restaurants and the many nearby beaches. The beach at the resort (which is down a footpath) is pretty much non-swimmable. The ambiance of this smaller, Adults Only resort (only 13 rooms, but currently expanding) and its attentive staff makes this a great choice for couples seeking a true jungle environment immersion experience. Included breakfast selection of 5 entrée choices are good, and it also includes fresh baked breads and pastry, jams, sliced meats and cheeses etc. They have also improved on the serving of fresh fruits for breakfast by putting them into individual serving containers with lids after complaints about insects (bees) on the fruits. Although many of the rooms are very, very small due to poor design (I stayed in a ‘standard double room’) the hotel has listened to customer feedback complaints and is improving them by adding doors between the sleeping area and bathroom, of which there is presently none. They were measuring for them during my stay in Feb. 2024. The pool is bigger than in the photos and is kept very clean and the resort grounds are magnificent. The dining area/bar/reception area can get a little crowded during the morning breakfast, so take note. If you are booking a standard double room, I recommend you give a prior request for Room #9 as it is set off to the side of all of the other (less private) poolside rooms. It is very private and quiet with no foot traffic constantly walking by. Note that as of February 2024 the resort is expanding and construction noise during the day takes away from the peace and serenity. I definitely recommend this property and I would return in a heartbeat.
The down side to the property is that the parking lot is small and very tight, there are frequent power outages that causes both internet and water outages, the limited menu and bar drinks are very, very expensive (with no Happy Hour), there is no refrigerator or coffee maker in the room (due to having no room due to poor design), and there is no TV. Rooms are too small with no place to but luggage, so travel light!

We loved everything about this property! It was conveniently located near the quiet beach, the rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean, plus the staff was wonderful. We had some problems with the air-con, but they fixed the problem very quickly by changing the air-con to brand new machine. On our last day, they packed us breakfast to go, because we had to leave before the breakfast time. The restaurant was very good and we ate there many times. And the cocktails were divine! We enjoyed the pool time, facilities and the atmosphere so much that we extended our 5-night stay with 4 more nights. We’d be happy to return back here anytime.

The staff were phenomenal. Josef who works at the front desk was amazing. Made us feel incredibly welcome and shared a lot of Costa Rican history with us. He also gave us advice of where to go, what to see and eat in puerto viejo. The property is also close to one of the best beaches. Was super relaxing and everyone was so friendly. The drinks were awesome, the included breakfast was delicious and the pool was also really nice. Highly recommend! Also, there are howler monkeys in the area which were awesome to hear and see, and with a short walk off the property there are so many other cool animals to see, Like toucans and macaws!

This is a truly remarkable property in that you are both near the beach and in the jungle. The trees were full of monkeys and toucans. The breakfast was exceptional, and the staff was very attentive. The property felt very private and it has access to a very quiet, beautiful beach far away from the popular/busy local beaches. You can also use the beach club at their sister property, Awa hotel, and charge things to your room.
The bathrooms are open to the bedroom with no door so if you’re a super private person, you might need to have your partner leave the room to do your business. :)
