I do like a quirky hotel and Hotel Dauphin ticked the boxes, reminiscent of hotels I visited in my childhood, on the second floor, above some shops with one of those old fashioned lifts that hold just 2 people, you press a buzzer to be admitted and the staff are very friendly, baggage storage for pre and post stays. Lots of remarks on here about how small the rooms are, mine wasn't that small, shower/toilet was spacious and newly decorated. Room itself was traditional French, that blue/green institutional paint, big windows and Juliette balcony onto the street. Rue Victor Hugo is a shopping street and wasn't too noisy at night! The hotel is a few yards from the Metro station in the Place Bellecour (a couple of yards more and you're at the Tourist info centre too) If you like a bland chain hotel the Hotel Dauphin may not be for you but I enjoyed my stay.

You don't always have a kettle in French hotels so it was a nice surprise, however once I'd used up the two Nescafe sachets I was asked to pay if I wanted more!!!!!!! Arriving from the Airport by Rhonexpress? When you get to Lyon Part-Dieu station, walk all the way through to the other side and then outside again following the signs saying Metro B - get a single ticket ( they last a hour ) ticket machines are in English too, take Metro B direction St Genis Leval to Saxe-Gambetta then change to Metro D direction Gare de Vaise and get off at Bellecour, leave the station, cross the road into Rue Victor Hugo and the hotel doorway is next to a branch of Nicolas Wines...

The room was very spacious, and we had a little balcony looking over the old street, which is closed to traffic, but plenty of pedestrians, and we enjoyed eating and drinking at the end of a day on the balcony. Also, so close to everything we wanted to see.

If you wanted to find a fault, and although it didn't worry me, someone might find fault with the stairs from the first level to the second on which we had our room (there was a small life from ground floor to first floor). Maybe a less fit person wouldn't want to carry heavy suitcases up the stairs. But I'm sure the hotel would have assisted if this was the case. To be honest though, these charming older hotels will generally not have elevators.

This was a lovely charming little boutique hotel! Highly recommend. Walking distance to old Lyon as well as right in the middle of shops & restaurants. Clean, charming & the little breakfast was perfect. The staff was lovely & so helpful. My daughter had an allergic reaction to some food at a nearby restaurant & the staff was so helpful! Thank you for such a lovely place to stay.

The staff was very welcoming. The room exceeded my expectations. It was very quiet even though it looked out over the pedestrian walkway. There was a kettle and coffee/ tea. It was very quiet and I heard no noise from other guests or the street. There were additional blankets and pillows. There was just a very small square of soap and if you stayed longer than a day you needed to ask for additional coffee but that was no problem at all. The beds were made up with new sheets every day. The location was superb. Near the old town, The tourist office, museums and subway connections including a direct route out to the airport. The staff were especially kind and spoke perfect English. I recommend room 14.

This hotel is well located and excellent value for money. Staff were so helpful and friendly- thank you! The room had fabulous tall French windows opening to the street below, which is now pedestrian only.

There were some odd little things, including the bathroom setup, but I think the hotel has been retrofitted into one or two floors of the building.

The location of this hotel was perfect! Central to any part of Lyon you may want to explore. The bathroom was fairly modern, the room not so much but it’s perfect for a short stay as you don’t spend much time in the room. For a solo traveler it was perfect. The staff - in particularly one lady- were lovely. She spoke great English and gave me some great recommendations.

Nothing too bad but you can hear a bit of noise from outside as well as other rooms.

Well-located budget accommodation with modern comforts and old style charm. Staff are excellent and very helpful. This little gem is just wonderful and my room had a great window opening to the street below. The lift is minuscule but retrofitted to an old building so appreciated. I recommend staying here.

Shower is very, very small.

It was in a very clear location. This time I checked in at the last minute, but the hotel contacted me and told me how to get in in case I couldn't make it in time. The receptionist was very helpful.

I was in a room facing the street and it was noisy outside.

Cosy little hotel with a decent breakfast convenient for central Lyon and close to Perrache station on a pedestrianised street. Although small, the room was very comfortable with a good bathroom and french windows with a window seat to nose at the world going by.

Slightly scuzzy entrance shared with a rather dodging looking apartment building. Extra security codes to keep undesirables away but the reassurance does make you ask why is it needed - once in, its a little haven.
