Comfortable room with nice balcony overlooking the old port area.

Having to leave the keycard at reception whenever you leave the hotel is an inconvenience to the customer for goodness knows what reason. This may seem minor but when you are just coming in or leaving when the lone receptionist is handling a bill settlement or other lengthy customer interaction you have to wait. Its not a reason not to stay at this nice hotel but it did feel over controlling.

Our second stay. Lovely helpful staff, great room and decor, amazing view. The breakfast was also very good. Liked the bathrobes and slippers,also the tea making facilities and coffee pod. Complimentary water in the room, too. Lovely vibe to the hotel.

Doorknob came off the balcony door and would not go back. Housekeeping fixed the problem very speedily but it must have been faulty for some time. The doorlock to our room was stiff to open, had to try several times, and use a lot of strength. Again, it can't have been a sudden problem. However, despite these minor problems I would always return when in Marseille.

The hotel is in an excellent location with great views over the old port and the hills with the Basilica of Notre Dam in a dominant position. You feel that you are really in the centre of what is all going on around the Old Port with most things within walking distance. The hotels on the other side of the port are in shade most of the day and don’t have the same views other than of the buildings on the other side. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient.

We weren’t aware that there was a main road between the hotel and the port which caused noise but the hotel can’t do anything about that. I would recommend getting a room with a balcony which are higher up the property on floors 3-7.

La Residence is very well situated for exploring the historic and harbour areas of Marseille - you are very much right in the thick of everything! It is: - impressive from the outside; - has a very attractive and large reception area; - has rooms with amazing harbour/cathedral views; - decorated in a retro and unusual fashion; - the room/bathroom was relatively simple but was clean and covered all of our needs for a one night stay. We did not have breakfast or use other amenities so cannot comment on these.

We did not like: - the very old/grubby, branded straw hat that was set out on our bed - a gimmick I don't think the hotel needs! - carpets in rooms maybe a little tired. However, considering the value for money and location of the hotel, this is a minor issue. * Not complaints about La Residence, just points to note for other travellers: - the location is centrally located in a busy city, so noise it to be expected. Our sleep was disturbed early Saturday morning with general noise from the harbour (in particular very loud music from a busker!) - The hotel does not have private parking due to location. There are a number of parking garages very nearby. However, experiences with these seem to vary (our experience was fine).

Great location! Spacious room- really enjoyed the decor and the later check out at 12 midday was really lovely. We didn't attend the breakfast but the bar out the front of the hotel was lovely. Friendly staff.

Unable to check in until gone 3pm - we had been travelling since early in the morning and unfortunately weren't able to check in early. However weighing this up with a later check out is understandable. The extractor fan in our bathroom wasn't working but we reported it to the staff on check out and they were proactive about getting it sorted.

The hotel is extremely well located in a fun and safe area of the Old Port with lots of good restaurants and stores nearby. Yet it is also a quiet refuge from the bustle of all the tourists. The staff is quite small, but attentive. The room was very ample for our party of three. We enjoyed the view of the port and the surrounding area.

The hotel advertised as being a bit more luxurious and spiffy than it really is. It is a good four-star hotel. I am not sure it would have been comfortable for a longer stay.

You can't stay at a better location than this. Every room has an Old Port view of the Notre Dame Basilica. The Balsilica of Notre Dame, Beach, Napoleans Palace, the Soap Museum, Longchamp Palace, Le Panier district, Cathedral La Major, Muce, Fort Sant-Jean and restaurants are all within walking distance. The staff is welcoming, personable, and very informational. I recommend this hotel for all travelers who want to have a safe, beautiful, and relaxing holiday getaway.

This hotel was fantastic all around!! I enjoyed my time in Marseille.

Our room (suite - it included an extra single bedroom which was really useful for reorganising the contents of our suitcases) had a balcony and wonderful views across Marseilles Vieux Port. The hotel was in an excellent location for bars and restaurants overlooking the water too.

Our bathroom was clean and well appointed but the only shower, strangely, was attached to the bath taps over the very large bath. There was no curtain or shower door or even shower alcove so if you wanted to shower you had to be very careful indeed not to get the water everywhere.

Spectacular views over the Marseille Harbour - located in the heart of the busy area where there was a hussle-bussle which was great for people watching. Is a little 'tired' on the surface but is quickly outweighed by the view it offers over the water. Staff were very friendly and always willing to help or offer suggestions. Caught a boat trip outside the front which included a swim stop - worth it's weight in gold! Missed the opportunity to visit the nearby beach but I'm told it is beautiful.

It's a little old for our liking. Location would have been better on the other side of the harbour which tended to have nicer shops and restaurants.

The view is spectacular. we loved our balcony room on the 6th floor, so spacious. the breakfast room is beautiful as well. we dined our first night in the restaurant, Le Relais, recognized by Michelin and excellent. with the vieux harbor location you are walking distance to so much, from antiquities to ferries (across the st) to a million great restaurants to the opera etc. even the subway is nearby, and that mattered on a general strike day with protests when cabs could not get through.

street noise. there is a party-hearty vibe outside. not as bad as the French quarter in New Orleans, but very loud until late.
