It was a delight to spend three weeks at La Regence. This is a family-run hotel, for the past 50 years run by the same family, three generations now being active within it, Betty, Thierry and Alexis. They are the kindest and most courteous of hosts, a quality echoed in the mood and atmosphere they create in the bar, where the waves of conversation and laughter come like the waves on the shore. The hotel is scrupulously clean, the beds very comfortable, the bathrooms neat and tidy, the shower strong and enveloping. The hotel is close to shops, though from the station to the hotel, with luggage, you will need a taxi up the steep hills of Villefranche and the many flights of steps. Bus services to Nice (west) and Monaco (east) pass the hotel and are fast, frequent and inexpensive. The bus drivers seems always to be trying the break the speed record. Trains are fast and regular.

It might have been a drawback, but it wasn't, that the hotel is on the main road by traffic lights. You get used to it. Across the road is a charming park (markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays), and beyond that is the sea.

Everyone who worked at Hotel La Regence was so kind, so caring, and so friendly! We had an amazing time. I loved waking up in the morning and heading down for a cafe au lait with croissants, and having a glass of rose before heading out for dinner. The amenities, room, and bar were all spectacular. Most importantly, the atmosphere was welcoming and so charming.

The Manager was very friendly and had a great sense of humour and made us feel very welcome. The hotel is in a good location, only about an 8 minute walk to the old town. There is a bus stop within a minute's walk, so easy to get to to places (we went to Monaco and Nice) or there is a train station nearby.

It's not the hotels fault but parking is quite difficult in Villefranche-sur-Mer and expensive! The bedroom was quite small but was perfectly adequate for our stay.

Thierry and his team were so lovely and welcoming. Simple breakfast available in the cafe downstairs. The room was perfectly appointed. Very clean. Excellent location. Highly recommended.

The hotel is on the main road through the town. If you are sensitive to road noise (scooters) then might not suit. We didn’t mind. The bar closes early but that keeps the hotel rooms quieter.

Bathroom is updated and very nice, and the bed was super comfy. Staff was really nice. Location is convenient but on a busy street. We didn’t find it to be noisy though. The value for what you get is awesome - the town is a little on the pricey side so it was nice to find such an affordable hotel.

The room is a little shabby when you first see it, but it actually turned out to be super comfortable. The bathroom is updated which makes it better.

This is a 10 room family (grandmother, parents, son) owned and run hotel. It is charming, with traditional decor and roomy but not huge rooms. The bathrooms are large and lovely, with modern mosaic tiles and huge mirror and excellent water pressure showers. We loved the entry through their small restaurant and bar during the daytime and through a back entrance at night. The joy of staying here is that they are real people greeting you and working, not corporate trained workers with plastic smiles. We will return here when we return to Villefranche sur Mer.

There are stairs to the two levels of hotel rooms, no elevator. Certainly prohibitive for anyone with ambulatory concerns. Although I am 78 y.o, I took it easy and it wasn't a problem. I went up and down 4 or 5 times a day for the week that I stayed there. Indeed, the town is on a hill by the coast so if there are concerns with walking, this town may be very difficult to explore. There are also no TVs in the rooms but I found the quiet refreshing and it was great to catch up on my ebooks.

Staff cheerfully greeted us, and provided info about amenities, wifi access, after hours entrance and fresh espresso and croissants each morning! location was perfect-market across the street in the plaza and we had 2 picnics there. Very convenient to take the bus to Nice-picked up just outside hotel. Took train to Antibes-good option, but train station was not as convenient.

Closer parking access would have been nice. Upon returning from a day trip, only option was beach parking far far away. we left the car parked and opted for bus/train and after 3 days, our parking fee was $160.

Great location. Very friendly, family operation since 1974. Unpretentious, basic rooms.

Don't expect anything other than basic accommodation. Towels changed and room cleaned daily. The very friendly and trustworthy owners and staff were excellent. The downstairs bar is a local hub and the hotel is well located close to main bus routes and an easy walk into the old village and seafront. A lovely stay for a very reasonable price.

The typically french hotel was lovely to stay in as we had room 8 with the balcony., it's just around the corner from the old town and opposite the tourist information. Villefranche-sur-mer is a lovely place, well worth a visit, we'll definitely visit again.

Hotel La Regence is positioned on a very busy road junction, traffic passes all day and night, with traffic lights right outside the window.

It's my second time since 2015 when I stayed at La Regence. The location is perfect, easily accessible by bus from Nice. The hotel is in a 15 min. walk from the train station that brings you all the way to Monaco and Menton, or to Nice. The hotel is in a couple minute walk from old part of the town with restaurants and shops, and 10-min walk to the beach. Le Regence is a family-owned hotel, with cosy and clean rooms, very welcoming and helpful staff and a great bar downstairs to relax in the evening or have a quick coffee in the morning. Villefranche-sur-Mer is an amazing place to stay if you want to spend some time in the French Riviera.

The hotel is located at a lively street with traffic, so it may be a bit disturbing at night (but if you have a deep sleep it should not be a problem).
