The room was tidy, housekeeping kept bins and bathrooms tidy. There was one staff member (don't know his name, sorry, but he's got long hair) who was amazing and polite and always super helpful if you had questions. The location is great. It's 1.2km to the nearest supermarket and you're just walking in a straight line down the road. Super easy! You're so close to the zoo and the botanic gardens (both of which I highly recommend. REINDEER!!!!) There's an icecream shop across the road from the hostel that has multiple vegan flavours, which was SO COOL for me because I can't have dairy and have missed icecream so much, so I was there basically every day trying a new flavour each time. I also highly recommend checking out the Recycled House down on the shoreline. Oh, and did I mention there's a swimming pool next door?? Look, you're not in the downtown, so you're a bit out of the way of the touristy areas (if that's your thing), BUT you will sleep really well because of it. No clubs and their loud music, no streetlights and garbage trucks, no drunk people squealing at 3am. This place has so many things going for it though. I think it depends what kind of trip you're planning to have. If you wanna do the drinking/club scene, go somewhere closer to the downtown. If you want some quality sleep and a chill kind of stay, this is the spot for you. Also the showers are AMAZING. The water pressure and water temperatures were great. It took a bit of time to get the hang of how to use the knobs and buttons to get it all working, but once I figured it out it was the best dang showers of my life. (Just wish there was a way to stop the water going across the floor. I was super careful and the floors still got quite wet.) The fridge system with baskets and labels for the food was excellent. Nobody took any of my food. The free shelves had some useful stuff there.

Other guests not cleaning after themselves properly (not the fault of the venue, so I didn't reflect that in my scoring, just mentioning it). Seriously, people, there's signs everywhere telling you what's expected. It's not hard. The only disappointment (if you can call it that) that I really had was that there's no toaster in the guest kitchens. They have toasters out at the paid breakfast, but I don't think I'm allowed to use those... Honestly, a toaster in the kitchens would be awesome! One tiny appliance would make such a difference!!

My first hostel experience, and honestly, I’m kind of ruined for all future ones…Outside, it might be freezing, but inside you will find warmth, thanks to Alex, Patricia, and the entire smiling crew. After a long day of travel, you might find yourself wrapped in a movie marathon, watching John Wick or Home alone but only if Alex deems you worthy of the remote (don’t mess this up). This place is basically a giant hug in hostel form: cozy spaces, amazing travelers of all ages - you might make friends ranging from 18 to 70, or maybe even older! As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe, comfortable, and honestly, like I was part of the family ♥️

Good atmosphere and very nice and helpful staff. 2 kitchen can be used. Playarea for families with children Nice outdoor space with barbecue place.

The plumbing in the bathroom might need a redo or better ventilation system. Bathroom can have a pretty bad smell from time to time. Room was extremely well heated and we had troubles adjusting the radiator to our needs. Too hot during the night. Hostel can be crowded with many pupils on a school trip, so it can get quite noisy from time to time. However that's what HI are also for. Nonetheless groups could mind other travellers more.

The Dalur hostel is what I would call gold standard. I have 3 hostels that I would rate as gold standard, Castle Rock Edinburgh, Black Isle Inverness and Dalur (City Hostel as was) Reykjavik. These hostels are the ones I'm always happy to book and really enjoy going to and staying at. If I can get a booking I'm really pleased, because the standard is so high. Clean, comfortable, well and efficiently run it's a pleasure to stay at these hostels and Dalur is no exception. Keep up the the really good work please!!

other people snoring, but, I do so myself.

Value for money - at least for Icelandic standards. 4-person rooms with private bathroom option. The kitchen for guest use is also very handy but a nice place to hang out.

We had 4-person room for 2 persons for 4 days. Apparently, they don't do any cleaning at all then. But the real scare was when we left at 4 am to catch 6:10 flight: the exit door was locked. Our digital code for a passage door downstairs to get into the lobby didn't work !!! Insane. Imagine in case of fire....... Thank God we found a emergency exit. Breakfast is kind of basic.

eco friendly, beautiful campus/grounds, the kitchen is great, loved that they encouraged recycling, staff very nice, laundry available w racks if you want to airdry (dryer also available), shared space is very nice as well, easy to check in (every guest has a unique code for entry)

parking can get a little tight if you arrive late into the night; women's bathroom on the 2nd floor gets flooded after a shower / the toilet area can be a little gross after that since the water floods into the toilet area (the partition between them is a little small) but it does get cleaned everyday and looks quite nice after being cleaned

I liked the location, though it is a bit away from the city centre, the coast with great view, grocery store and ferry terminal are a few minutes by walking. There is a bus stop right infront of the hostel, with regular buses even on Sundays. I arrived late at night, but was able to check-in and access with door code. The hostel is a part of large camping complex with top-notch facilities (two spacious kitchen, security system, dining, washing, heating, courtyard, garden, lounge, etc.). The kitchen had enough accessories and some free ingredients to cook and eat for budget travellers like me. The beds were clean and comfortable. The staffs and guests were very friendly. Overall, I enjoyed my stay there.

One male washroom was out of service, which I expected to be fixed soon. Also I did not like mixing elderly people with young adults in the same dormitory room, as they have different sleeping cycles. 😆

I like the free parking, kitchen was well equipped and heating was great! Room was big for a family of 4 and facilities were aplenty. Great amenities nearby, there is a pastry shop called Passion Reykjavík nearby, thumbs up! We managed to catch a glimpse of aurora on our first night right outside the hostel! Comfy beds too! I slept well!

Room needed repaint, early renovation at 8am, drilling woke up us 🙂‍↕️no towels so we have to rent for $7 per piece, but heater in toilet was appreciated.

Location just opposite the bus stop and next to thermal pool. Staff was extremely helpful. Nice breakfast you can buy extra but there is everything you need to start a day in a healthy way. In a 4 dormitory room there was a bathroom with the toilet, there was a sink with a mirror and hair dryer outside the bathroom which is very useful in a room of 4. You don't have to go outside the room to use shared toilets or bathrooms. The heating and hot water never fails. In the guests kitchen there are all facilities you need to prepare your meal. There is also the laundry room in the basement.

I didn't like the way how some of guests ignore rubbish segregation rules in the guests kitchen. But this is not hostel fault. Maybe more eco promoting materials and information would be helpful.
