The location is excellent, right in the heart of Trastevere, but somehow quiet and peaceful. You are seconds away from Santa Maria square and multiple cafes, bars and restaurants. The staff are amazing, so incredibly friendly and helpful, Frederico checked us in, and showed us places to go a map provided, we asked for restaurant recommendations, and the transfers to and from the airport were seamlessly organised. Breakfast was fairly simple but made with lovely ingredients - beautiful scrambled eggs, cheese and ham as well as fruit, yoghurt and cereals and the most delicious pastries and cakes. The coffee was superb and Romeo added little extra touches like individual decoration of our names on the top. We visited in early February and while we had sunshine, the mornings and evenings were cool in the shade. We managed one drink on the roof terrace and a coffee in the lovely courtyard. I imagine this is really nice later in the Spring. The rooms are not especially modern but the bed was super comfortable with very nice bed linen. Tolietries were provided and the hairdryer did its job. Everything was very clean. If you want 5 star luxury trappings, this is not the place for you but it is a lovely, personal little hotel and we would love to stay here again.

What this hotel might lack in updates it more than makes up for in cleanliness, incredibly friendly staff and amenities. We stayed for just one night at the end of our trip as we returned to Rome for a flight out; I really wanted to check out the Trastavere neighborhood. I was so impressed with the genuine friendliness from everyone we met here, and especially the handsome young guy who worked the front desk that night whose name we never caught. They offer a beautiful apertivo buffet in evenings (just buy a drink) and we only got to enjoy a cappuccino but the included breakfast was fantastic. I believe all or most rooms are ground level facing a comfy central courtyard full of orange trees and a funny cat, it feels very safe behind locked gates. The Trastavere neighborhood is SUPER FUN and delicious and we are so glad we stayed here. But just FYI it’s more about a cool vibe with lots of hustle and church bells all night; if you are looking for super luxurious peace and quiet I would probably look to a different area of Rome. There were lots of Americans staying here.

I’ve read the hotel used to be a convent and there is a church right there. Not the hotel’s fault but the church bells rang on the hour and half hour all night. Would still choose this place in Trastavere though!

My partner and our 6 year old spent 3 nights in Hotel Santa Maria and it was absolutely perfect for our stay in Rome. We went to the Vatican on Friday and the Colosseum on Saturday. Location-wise, the hotel is almost in the middle of those two places, around a 30 minute walk, obviously quicker without a child. It is also surrounded by a great choice of restaurants. There is a secure gateway into the hotel which was fantastic as almost every other hotel opens onto the street. Once inside you'll find a beautiful courtyard that is actually an orange and lemon orchard. There's even a lounge where my daughter and I played chess and I even had a nap on one of the extremely comfy chairs! The room was clean, the shower/bath did its job perfectly and the beds were very comfortable. Finally, the staff were all a pleasure to deal with. You could feel that they're passionate about and have great pride in their hotel and they absolutely should be. They always greeted us with a smile and were so friendly and welcoming. A special mention to Marvin and Kevin in the breakfast room. They put on a wonderful breakfast, are so professional and are amazing at their job. From the little details in the lattes to making my daughter smile. She also couldn't get enough of the hot chocolate and finished every breakfast with marshmallows from the guys. I honestly can't recommend Hotel Santa Maria enough. After staying for 3 nights I would just tell you to forget staying anywhere else, stay in Hotel Santa Maria. It has 3 stars but it gives you 5 star service, is in a great location with comfortable rooms and the best staff. Book your stay here, you won't regret it.

Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Excellent location. Excellent shower. Excellent bedding. It felt very safe. Quiet location. Very clean. Very reasonably priced.

The Hotel Santa Maria was an unexpected delight. Yes, it's a tad difficult to find. But, its location on a side street keeps it quiet and serene despite the bustle and noise of Trastevere. The hotel's courtyard was *wonderful* for breakfast and happy hour, with the signature Santa Maria Spritz being perfect for the transition from seeing sights to enjoying dinner. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable... and full of personality. When we return to Roma, we will return to Hotel Santa Maria.

There was nothing we didn't like.

The hospitality provided by the staff was top notch. The tree lined courtyard in the center of the hotel was heart of the hotel - such a lovely space for breakfast, happy hour, and down time. The neighborhood is fun and vibrant, particularly in the evening hours, and is outside of the tourist hordes surrounding the primary "sights" of Rome. This is a perfect spot for walkers as it is challenging for taxis to access when the neighborhood is crowded.

Rooms are exactly as shown in photos, a bit small and dated but totally adequate for our needs.

Hotel Santa Maria is special. The people there are so warm and friendly. The property is beautiful. I stayed for six nights and will stay here again when I return. The area is great for exploring. This is defintley a spot for a foodie, a single traveler, romantic getaway, or families. Everyone was at this spot. As a single traveler, it felt like I was coming home to friends each evening.

I have nothing but positive things to say about this spot.

My daughter and I spent 10 GLORIOUS Days at Hotel Santa Maria. The pictures online do NOT do this quaint, classic paradise justice! The staff was beyond accommodating from the time I booked our trip and had to change dates with NO problems, until we had to extend a day due to travel issues, again flawless. Being two women in a foreign country we both felt safe and looked after by the staff. If we needed a cab, no problem... If we needed a recommendation...perfect, If we needed to figure out how to get somewhere....they were on it! The free breakfast was such a plus! We could fill up for our long day out and not have to stop for quite a while. The breakfast buffet was nicely appointed and pleasing to the eye. The cappuccinos were perfection! We both enjoyed our latte art, personalized every morning for us by our handsome barista! The entire staff was a 10/10! The hotel itself is in the most amazing town of Trastevere! It is a beacon in this lively town. We both felt safe strolling the streets for lunch, shopping or gelato! Having the entire hotel gated was quite reassuring. There are some "creature" comforts of home, so be sure to feed the cat during breakfast and "Happy Hour" AND If your lucky, you'll get to meet the beautiful golden retriever in the main office. Our room was always clean and cozy. Fresh towels every day, the A/C was 100%, the fridge was a nice necessity, and the water pressure on point! We lacked for nothing! Be sure to take advantage of the terrace! It was a nice place to get my alone time and read or just take in the beautiful views! WE WILL RETURN!

We had a glorious visit at Hotel Santa Maria. The location was perfect for the sights we wanted to see. And only 2 blocks from the Tiber, where we took our morning runs. The breakfast was superb in the lovely courtyard, as was happy hour (grazie per aperitivi!) and the attitude and cheerfulness of the professional team. The hotel staff ensured that we met up with our tours on time and in the right spot (not always easy in Trastevere) and that we were fully informed about the day ahead.
