I got an female dorm with private bathroom, and the bathroom and room itself was fantastic, with a window with a view straight out on to the water. The place itself is also pretty good in terms of boat transport, in that two piers are nearby and the boats come regularly. Plus the views in general are good, you just leave the building and it's water right there immediately, very nice to stare out at. The hostel itself has plenty of nice seating and indoor lounging areas.

To note that this is on a (fairly empty) island, and so if you don't have a day/all transport ticket (which costs 50-something euros for three days), you're going to be spending around 20e a day just for the trip out to the main Venice area and the trip back, as the boats to get here have a flat 9.5e rate per trip no matter how far/near your destination. If you've a lot of luggage, to note the lift only goes up two floors and you will need to carry it up the stairs past that.

Let me start by location. I rated it as a good one because it wasn't looking for first hand access to the main attractions of Venice. Actually it was the opposite, I enjoyed the peacefulness of the island (Giudecca), and also the beautiful views of the city. Also the hostel is facing the lagoon and you can take a seat at the hostel terrace and enjoy the views of Venice. You need to take the vaporetto anytime you want to move away from the island but this wasn't an inconvenience for me. For those that demand quick access to the busy and crowded city centre, maybe this is not the place to stay. The room was a big one for 15 or so people, in a bunks room. Space was a bit tight but the bed was better than I expected. Underneath the low bed there are two boxes lockers, one of each bunk bed, without a key. Bring your own one. The space to manage with this drawer isn't great. As I was saying, the space around the bunk was tight and there wasn't any hook to hang the towel, This annoyed me. Cleaning was okay and bed comfy considering that you are sleeping in a bunk bed. Socket and bed light for each bunk Ground floor and reception area is quite nicely decorated, with different options to take a seat, have a drink and so on. There is a kitchen service and you can order dinner for instance, Local supermarket is about 5' walk if you want fresh food, ready to eat, fruit, etc,. There are no kitchen facilities in the hostel where you prepare your meals. There are a few restaurants close to the hostel in case you are looking alternative options. Nice terrace facing the lagoon, this is great.

Bathroom facilities are basically not enough for all the guests. Each room has allocated a bathroom, one for each gender. Basically this is not enough for all guests. Male bathroom has two showers, two toilets, and one basin. This is absolutely not enough and what this intense use makes is that the cleaning is quite difficult to maintain unless twice cleaning services is provided. There are toilet facilities, free access, on the ground floor so in some way you are safe in case you are in an emergency situation when you need a toilet toilet

July 2022

location is across the channel, away from most of the hustle and bustle of Venice. You have to take the ferry to get there. Rooms were clean, lobby was fun and trendy, staff were very helpful.

Bathrooms were disgusting. I can tell they clean them regularly, but everything is broken. Clogged, slow sinks, lots of mold in the shower tile grout, toilet doors that don’t lock, (people will walk in on you unless you hold the door closed,) shower doors broken off their tracks… Can’t set your soap bar down anywhere without it touching mysterious black growths in the tile. Writing this in July 2022. I really hope they can get some major repairs in ASAP. It’s unfortunate, Generator Venice was otherwise a fantastic place.

The room was adequate, the atmosphere and cosiness of the lounge, the staff were exceptionally informative and friendly.

The temperature of the room and the lounge was a tad excessive - it was very, very warm. I'm sure that would please most people but it was too much for me!

It’s probably the most beautiful hostel I’ve ever stayed, the building is beautiful. The view is nice.

Well the room was pretty dark, and I didn’t really know you HAVE to get the boat to go to the hostel/city. There is no other way 😂 so you’ll spend some money with transportation. And I mean 5 euros to rent a towel? 😂

All was perfect with the hostel!

Was obligatory to buy ferry’s day tickets which are not very cheap for non residents..

I liked how easy it was to check in. It was clean. I liked the lockers under the bed; they were very sturdy. I liked the food available to purchase: they had tasty vegetarian options. The view outside of the hostel is impressive. And it is one station away (or two depending on the Waterbus line taken) from Piazza San Marco. It's also very easy to get to from Piazzalle Roma, by taking Waterbus no. 2 (red line) and the views to the hostel are spectacular.

I found the room to be slightly too warm for my taste. The towel I rented was adequate, though I as a personal preference, I wish that it would have been a bit wider and thicker.

The common areas are lovely and clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. I didn’t spend much time there but it looks like a nice place to hang out, with the games and stuff, really nice for such good value hostel. The bedrooms are simple but not cramped, and have everything needed. The beds are comfy and have a little socket and light switch, very useful. The prices for food and drink on site are reasonable. The location is lovely, really calm and quiet, doesn’t feel very touristy, and lovely to start the day with a boat ride. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

There were event nights on a couple of days and I didn’t realise the music would be on until so late. I could hear it from the room so it was a little tricky to sleep on those nights. (Other nights were totally fine). I think the shower head was a little bit broken so it would not stay at the right height, but I don’t know if I just wasn’t using it properly. It was also a surprise that the showers are in full view of anyone else in the bathroom with a glass door. It’s not a huge problem to me and I was lucky that it wasn’t busy, but it might bother some people so it could be good to have a note on the website.

I stayed at the Generator Hostel Venice for three nights and I had a good experience. The hostel is located on Giudecca Island, which is not the main island of Venice, but it has a nice view of the city and the canal. To get to the main island, you need to take a boat or buy a boat pass, which can be a bit expensive and time-consuming. The hostel itself is very modern and stylish, with a spacious bar, lounge, and game area. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is lively and fun. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with lockers, power sockets, and reading lights. The bathrooms are shared, but they are also clean and well-maintained. The breakfast is decent, but not very varied. You get coffee, croissant, and juice, which is enough to start the day, but if you want something more, you can order a larger breakfast for an extra fee. The hostel also has a vending machine for snacks and drinks, tooth paste kit, padlock, earplugs and all necessary items. You can also rent a towel. It's not included. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Generator Hostel Venice and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a budget-friendly and social place to stay in Venice. Just be aware of the boat situation and plan your trips accordingly.

I was disappointed with the rooms at the Generator Hostel Venice. The rooms are shared and very cramped, with no dustbin, table, or chair. You have to go outside to the bathroom or the main stairs to throw away your garbage. The lockers are in the walking area, so you have to make space for others to pass by. The rooms are so small that 15 people can barely fit in, let alone stand or sit comfortably. The only good thing about the rooms is that the beds are quiet and decent. The Generator Hostel Venice has nice common areas, but the rooms are terrible. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone who values space and comfort.

Location is great. Although not in downtown Venice, it's very close and there's a charm in waking up to the view of Venice's skyline. It's easy to take the Vaporetto to town (although pricey). It's clean and has a nice common area. Staff is very helpful.

Rooms are quite small for the amount of beds. It's so crammed that it makes it really hard to use the lockers located under the bunk beds - people often leave their stuff there, making it impossible to open. And out of 4 lockers opening to the same side, it's really only feasible to open or two max at a time. Also, just one toilet and one tower for a room with a 10 people capacity. Also, the rooms in the top floor are subject a bit of noite - from pigeons, from hotel machines and rain. No minimal acoustic isolation. There's no kitchen and the hostel doesn't allow to bring alcohol from outside - because it has its own bar. But bar attendants were not nice when getting their message across. Very thin pillow and soft pillow.
