Very quiet and peaceful. There were three Onsen bathrooms, one of which can/should be booked in advance. The staff is friendly--went out of the way to help us. Basic English isn't a problem. While out of the way, the restaurants in the area do deliver here. The rooms are big enough to host 3 people (we are a family of 5, so, 2 rooms). Entirely enjoyed our stay there.

Two main points: it's a bit run down, and it's somewhat out of the way. Bit of advice--don't be fooled by Google Maps. The shorter path coming from the north involves a punishing flight of stairs. Rather, go in from the road to the South.

Very kind people! Quite place. View on the Fuji san at the entrance of the Ryokan. 3onsen (one private that you Can reserve and 2 available without réservation.). Conform to the pictures. You Can access it by bus.(bus stop 259). It i's not far from Togendai station where you have 2 activities : Funicular to Owakudani and lake cruise. To leave to Odawara, just catch any T bus passing.

It is a bit difficult to find and far from food shops. Have some dry noodles in case of.

The onsen are very nice. The location is surrounded by tree which is great. You can see mont fuji from the entrance (when the weather is good enough). There is a ping pong table available.

Information for the arrival was missing. They didn't mention the closest bus stop is number 256. The staff was barely present, helpful but not proactive.

The Chojuyu Hakone is a very unique and traditional ryokan. It is located not too far from the Hakone ropeway station and the pirate ship port. It’s readily accessible by local bus. The staff is very welcoming and obliging. The host is a an exceptionally gifted pianist and we were luckily invited to listen to him play in the music room. Our room was nice with traditional tatami floors and its own tv, fridge and toilet. We loved the three fantastic private hot springs with real onsen water. A superb way to finish a hard days sightseeing in the mountains.

We loved staying at the Chojuyu Hakone and will be delighted to stay again. However, it was a little difficult to find. Our Apple Maps and car navigation took us within 500 meters of the ryokan, but couldn’t find the exact location. We needed to phone the ryokan for directions. Maybe, Google maps might be more successful. A few sign posts with arrows to help guests to find the location would be welcomed.

A clean, new bidet in each room. A small sink in each room to fill water, wash hands and face. Shared bath/onsen, but private. Outdoor onsen is popular but the 2 indoor ones are just as nice and don't require reservation. Because there are only 8 or 9 roomful of people, 3 baths were more than plenty. It was never busy when we needed it. Staff were pleasant. View from the room was nice with large windows. Very peaceful. Close to bus stop that's 5 minutes away from Togendai station, which has the pirate ship (sightseeing cruise) and ropeway (gondola).

Location was a bit more rural and finding food was a challenge, especially on weekdays! (Many shops closed on Wednesday and maybe Thursday too) Not much food to buy in the ryokan. Slippers "system" could be better. It's the most "shared" thing there. I would've liked personal slippers (maybe with room number) that get cleaned after all guests. We had a 10-year-old and the yukata/kimono/slippers did not fit him. Only teen / adult sized.

This was exactly what my partner and I were looking for and MORE. I wanted to stay in a classic ryokan while traveling to Japan and this was the perfect space. The host was incredibly kind and accommodating. Our room had a beautiful view, and comfy futon. As other travelers wrote, the host played piano for us at night. The outdoor onsen was peaceful and cozy. For food, the host was able to call a local restaurant for us, and the restaurant actually sent one of their workers out to pick us up for dinner. Amazing experience all around. I would love to return here someday.

The staff (Kyoko) was so very accommodating and helpful. The private onsens were perfect for the members of my family afraid of public baths, while still providing a hot spring experience. There was only a single fee for using the bath. Everything about this place is very fair priced and great value. The close 30 min walk from Lake Ashi (my favorite part of Hakone) made this place a hidden gem.

Meals are not included with this onsen and it is difficult to acquire food nearby.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The host was lovely - although she didn't speak much English, she had prepared information cards to tell us everything we needed to know. Aside from that, with the help of Google translate, we were able to communicate just fine :) The room was clean and spacious. The sleepwear was AMAZING. And the private onsen was a bonus. They even had a ping pong table in the lobby, which we played on while waiting for the restaurant shuttle. The location is very quiet, and the room had a balcony with a view towards the mountains. Really serene. Also, the restaurants in the area provide a shutter service to/from your accommodation, which was really convenient!

Nothing!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at Chojuyu. We used the transfer luggage at the station to send the luggage to the ryokan so we could spend more time exploring. The ryokan is on stop Palace Hotel Mae , I wish I knew this beforehand as it was a short walk from the bus stop. We found the place at night via a local bus and 16 min walk through back alleyways. The hotel is traditional, comfortable and clean. The female owner was extremely helpful answering all my questions via Google translate. Our room had 4 futons and dining table and chairs. Which we used to eat dinner and drink tea each night. The outside bath was a wonderful experience, we loved all our baths. Overall it was a wonderful Japanese experience and highly recommend staying here while on Hakone

Nothing, I thought the property was great as a traditional well priced ryokan

If you are not looking for a glamorous, itsy fancy facility; this place is a hidden gem for Onsen enthusiasts. It's sort of a family-run Ryokan down to earth comfortable with proper planning. The bus stop is #258 and not #256. At the moment, there is neither restaurant nor a convenience store near the facility. Visitors can really enjoy a private onsen session and a good rest that is close to the natural setting at this remote up-the-hill surrounded by nature. The bus stop is a 10mn walk from the facility and a few stops away from the Ropeway and the riding of the ship of Ashinoko Lake. My family is looking for the next stay at this wonderful Ryokan.

It needs directions and a sign to guide visitors to the facility from the bus stop and the main street nearby.
