The Hotel Musashiya is in a fantastic location with a wonderful view of Lake Ashinoko. Within a few minutes walk there are some very nice restaurants, convenience store, bakery and ferry port. Hakone shrine and the Torii gates are also a short walk away. The hotel is very welcoming with friendly and obliging staff. The food is very high quality and traditionally Japanese. The tatami rooms were very warm, considering that it was freezing outside. There is free car parking at the back of the hotel. The real highlight of the hotel is the great inside and outside natural hot spring, which has a very nice view. We had a really nice stay at the Hotel Musashiya and would recommend it to other travelers.

If you have read the other reviews, then yes, it is old and dated. There is humidity and a certain smell in some rooms. The hotel has been there for a while (hence the location and the view) but it is lovely, very authentic and a unique. The rooms are spacious. They put up the futon beds each night after dinner which you have in your room. While you have breakfast in the common room they put the beds away. So during the day you can’t lie down. There is a superb view of the lake. The staff is really really nice. Elderly ladies who try to make you feel very comfortable. It might not be super clean and the onson has seen better days but the view is amazing! It is a great value for money in the area. And rest assured the food is super good! It is kaiseki ryori which consists of many different small dishes for breakfast and dinner. It is all good and tasty. There will always be something which you like. We loved it. We can recommend the hotel, the food and the staff!!!

The hotel is very well located in front of the lake, from the rooms there is a beautiful view. Breakfast is Japanese style, every day is different, very good. On the fifth floor there is a spa with a view of the lake that is also worth visiting, it is not very big, I recommend going early or late at night.
The hotel is old, it has not been renovated and it shows in the facilities, for example, there is no wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby, it is something that could be modernized.

very nice and interesting experience of traditional Japanese bedding, meal and onsen. good value for the price! The position is excellent if you are coming to hakone for 1 night because the hotel is 5mins walking distance to the pirate ship and 10 mins to the temple. also the bedroom is very comfortable tho sleeping on the floor, very warm and quite hotel that you won’t see other customers often in the lift. and I can enjoy the onsen by myself at 9pm!
the toilet and bathroom is fairly old and small and not very clean because I can clearly see the dirt from cover and gap of everything.

Excellent and friendly staff. Very positive, greeted us every time we went went out and came in. Nice common room, super location and just blocks from the two main Bus stations and the two main ferry docks. You cannot ask for a better location for overall access. The included breakfast, if purchased, was superb. A full on Japanese breakfast, something to behold and enjoy and we did for 4 straight mornings. A great location.
They had a very weak and slow wifi only available in the lobby. However, the lobby was comfortable and you could choose which CD to play on their stereo system. No fault of the hotel and they did tell use this, most restaurants close very early in Motohakone due to the fact most visitors only come for the day.

We had breakfast and dinner. The food was simply amazing and the hospitality exceptional. There was a personal welcome message outside the hotel on arrival. Dinner was served in the room and we were given explanations on all the dishes which were served. A yukata (cotton kimono) is provided for wearing in the hotel and you can buy a similar one to bring back home. There is an indoor and an outdoor onsen. The room had a view on the lake and mountains and we were right beside the boats. The shrine and old Tokaido Road are within walking distance. There are also bus stops right beside the hotel so the location is ideal.
The bathroom is very small but most ryokans do not provide an ensuite so it was still a bonus to have one at all.

The rooms were traditional and I loved that! The view of the lake was awesome! I love the huge windows. We had the lake view and got my son the mountain view, his room was actually the better choice. It was bigger and was at the corner so it had a view of the mountain and the lake! The location was great and a short walk to the Hakone Shrine. The staff was great too! I also loved the little welcome sign with our names in the front.
The shower curtain was moldy. The property is older but I did not mind, it was really cute and cozy.

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location was top-notch, right in the thick of things in Hakone. Steps from Lake Ashi and many restaurants and shops. Beware of narrow opening times for those shops and restaurants though! Very near to Lawson's and 7/11 convenience stores if you need a cheap option. The onsen was amazing and very relaxing. Can only speak to the women's side, but amazing views over the water and a lovely outdoor portion. The rules are easily seen and shared by hotel staff. Each room had robes to wear to the onsen that were changed each day. The hot tea in the room was a nice touch despite not having meals included in our stay.
While authentic, I found the traditional futons a bit too thin for my comfort. Would have preferred a bit more padding.

Everything was simply perfect. We came early and were welcomed nicely. The hotel took our stuff till check in and put it directly to the room. We were in the traditional japanese room (tatami and everything) and it was really cool from the view in the window to yuakatas. Staff was amazing - an older japanese couple were helping us at dinner and building futons - they spoke little english, but as I spoke little japanese we communicated very well. We got a japanese dinner at our room. It was coocked very well and we could try a lot of dishes in tiny portions. Japanese breakfast was not much to our taste as europeans, but it was an interesting experience anyway. Onsen pool was located on the roof, inside and outside pool - somewhat older, but very clean. The old and used appearence even made it rather cosy and romantic. There very also very few people so general experience was great. The hotel is located on the shore of lake Ashi, so we could watch it while bathing. Sadly it was very foggy so we couldn't see Mount Fuji...
Someone might be bothered that hotel is rather old and somewhat used, but I found it cool, as everything was very clean and well preserved. Staff were sometimes hard to understand in english but they had everything explained on paper for foreign guests.

Most of all I love to sleep in tatami beds. The great location and beautiful view and the onsen was nice too. The personnel were great and the dinner and breakfast traditional Japanese which we really appreciated. The hotel were close to Lake Ashi and ferries and buses. 5 minutes walk from the hotel was a possible view of Mt. Fuji-san and we were lucky to see it with a blue sky one morning. Thank you for our pleasent stay.
The hotel is a bit old but that was not a problem at all for us.
