It was a nice place with the traditional style of the Japanese culture. The private onsen was good, it was outside of the building tho (in a small can right outside). The staff was super friendly

Nothing really bad but keep in mind that the dinner and breakfast that are included are very traditional as well, mostly sea food, pickled veggies, etc. Also the the bus to get there from Odawara station (1150 yen p.p) takes around 60-70 min (regardless what google says)

This place is 300 years old and they are proud of their heritage and you can really feel the history. Sure, some spots can use a bit of paint or a touch up, but this just add to the charm. The owners and staff all feel very traditional and only speak a few (but enough) words of English. Breakfast (included) and Dinner (needs to be booked) are set and very traditional Japanese. We tried both the private and public baths and both were excellent.

The private baths look very old (one was under renovations) - but this adds to the charm. However some floor boards were loose and some mould was visible. It didn't bother us and I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.

Even before our check-in date, the Ryokan's concierge kept us updated via Booking.com's messages regarding things to see and do, historical information about the onsen, travel options and also a very timely update on best route to take since it was peak travel time as we went during golden week. Don't expect a very modern, flashy Ryokan experience here. This is more of a traditional historical experience as many of its infrastructure (including some of the onsen) has been preserved for over 300 years. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful receptionists. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. One benefit to being situated slightly out from the main tourist hub is the peaceful and quiet environment you get at the ryokan. The Kaiseki breakfast and dinner (half-board) were excellent and more traditional than modern, ingredients were fresh and local and we were always stuffed by the end of it. The private onsen is worth booking too!

The location is abit off the main path, it's accessible by bus but there isn't much to do or eat within walking distance. The nearest convenience store is a bus ride away so come prepared with snacks in case you are hungry.

The staff were lovely and very patient with my English/Japanese translator. We loved the room (our first time sleeping on the mats). We enjoyed the onsen. Loved that the location was out of town. We rented a car so it was no problem. Loved seeing my name outside the door when we checked in. Food was fantastic. Breakfast was a little much for us at 8:00 but the quality of the food was outstanding.

Facilities are dated as many have mentioned but clean. We realized as we were checking out that our room fridge stopped working so we had to throw out some of our food.

I think the value, in comparison to most Ryokans, is quite good. Rooms are large but outdated and clearly lived in. The onsens are very nice and the food was great. I kind of liked the location although make sure you're ok being in the middle of nowhere. You will be reliant on a car or public transportation (Which is frequent enough)

I wouldn't describe the hotel as dirty but the hotel is 300 years old and it does feel that way. If you are sensitive to dust you may want to consider a different option

The staff was really kind, and the main onsen and the private one were so nice! The location was super beautiful too!

I wish people with tattoos could use the public onsen.

Very charming, in the middle of the woods, with traditional beautiful private and public baths. They made us choose our traditional yukata to wear in the hotel. The baths were incredible! The room is wide and the tatami comfortable. We had a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast. There is a little nice shop with traditional products inside. The staff was very welcoming, nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much

- Amazing stuff, even though they don’t really speak English they really try their best to help you - very relaxing onsens (both private and public) - very traditional breakfast and dinner (a true Japanese experience) - very traditional rooms (clean and spacious) - just the whole vibe of this place with a rich history, an opportunity to wear kimono and enjoy Japanese culture

the place is a bit isolated so be prepared to ride a bus to the nearest village for some shops and restaurants

Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Traditional Japanese clothing is provided for you to wear if you wish. Breakfast and dinner were superb. The building itself is very interesting, and has a gallery with interesting art and artefacts on display. The hot springs were amazing and were the highlight of the trip. Traditional room was very spacious and the futon beds were surprisingly comfortable.

Out of the way location. You will probably want to hire a car to get there and around the local area as there are only limited buses for public transport.

An authentic experience. This is a 300years old onsen. Here you will experience the real onsen but don’t expect luxury. The ryokan is old but very clean and spacious. The dinner was excellent and the breakfast was good. Be prepared for a different breakfast than the common. Forget croissants with butter and marmalades!! It’s fish!!! The bus stop of the Hakone pass bus is 3 mins from the ryokan. And the Ashi lake 10mins with the bus. Next to the onsen there is a museum that is worth a visit.
