We weren't sure why this hotel would have such a good rating, but we liked the rating and booked it. Once we got there, it was clear why it had such a good rating. Apart from the excellent hotel itself and breakfast, the difference was the staff. Very professional and helpful. A couple of examples. First, there were a couple of additional items that I requested on the first morning from the lady who supervised the breakfast buffet. The next morning, she had remembered me and brought me the same items again without me asking! Second example, we had some presents to give to family, but we didn't have a nice bag. Reception gave us two very suitable new bags free of charge that were perfect for what we wanted. Thank you! We miss Hotel Prezio!

Everything was great.

Room Very stylish, clean and decently spacious twin room. No wardrobe unfortunately, only a couple of hangers but there was a nice sofa, where some clothes can be stored. Loved attention to the details - nice mugs and tea kettle zone in the room Very comfy bed, pillows and blankets Great location 5 min walk to the bus stop, 10 min walk to Subway station. Easy to reach the touristic sites. Very nice area to walk in the evenings Very friendly staff

Just a proposal on cleaning options. The hotel is eco-friendly and there are multiple cleaning options which customers can choose each day - 1) just change towels + get water/tea restock, 2) full cleaning or 3) no cleaning. It would be nice to add an option of just bringing the water + tea restock.

We were very surprised to find a massage chair and foot massager in the room, which was a big added plus after long days of walking around town. The duvet was very comfy and the room was larger than average size for Japanese standards. Everything was clean and the hotel staff was very friendly. We appreciated the option to opt out of a room cleaning service in exchange for complementary beverages. It was about a 15-17 min walk from Gion and had some cute restaurants nearby. The 7/11 across the street was an added bonus.

One of our pillows was very uncomfortable and hard, which affected our sleep.

Excellent location with good transport links and supermarkets nearby. Especially loved the ‘Life’ supermarket round the corner. Beds very comfortable and large for singles and nice bathroom facilities. Staff were super lovely. Eco cleaning available where if you leave your bins and towel basket outside the door they will empty them and leave you a bag of towels with new dressing gowns and tea/water. Just be warned that even if you only want your towels replacing you will still get new dressing gowns. We never used them so ended up with 14 by the end of our stay! 😂

No wardrobe, just a rail on the wall (but you can see that from the photos). I would happily stay here again.

Overall a great, comfortable stay. The staff were polite and professional. There is a coffee/tea machine in the lobby. There is a garden view in the lobby. The rooms were sized appropriately, the beds comfortable, and the bathroom brilliant.

Surprisingly, there was an odor of sorts from the carpet; however, this was more isolated to the area when entering the hotel room. It was not a deal breaker - but the stay would have been more pleasant otherwise.

One thing that you never think about until you're already there: laundry machines. The Shizutetsu has great laundry machines that automatically add detergent and good dryers. There are mediocre hotels in Kyoto that nevertheless think they are too fancy for laundry machines, and you end up walking for blocks in the blazing heat looking for a laundromat. It's also right on the edge of the tourist zone, so you have access to the tourist stuff but also to places that are a little quieter/a little more local.

Windows are frosted so you can't rest your eyes if you are working in the room--no big deal.

Not a big hotel. Very nice. The garden in the reception is very relaxing and it is nice to have free complimentary staff and coffee in the reception and others also in the room. I appreciated a lot the unexpected massage armchair that I found in my room. I appreciated the sustainability campaign of the hotel that allows free drinks to the guests that don't want room cleaning every day - this remains a guest's choice.

Hotel is not characterful - probably more aimed at business people. This is not a complaint at all, I am just suggesting that if you are wanting something more quaint, with more character etc for your stay, I probably wouldn't choose this hotel.

Great hotel, staying here has helped me a lot in performing a good job. Breakfast is excellent. The hotel staffs are very nice. The facilities are good, the bath is easy to use, quick to fill and hard to cool down. You can use good quality shampoo and so on, which are also available next to the front desk. It is located in the center of Kyoto, but also in a residential area. On Saturday morning, I could hear they were practicing Gion music. All major places in Kyoto are easily accessible. You can find the tea from Sizuoka is far better than one from Kyoto.

I would have liked places to relax other than my room. For 6 nights, although the breakfast was very good but I was a little bored. I would like more variety in salads and fruits. But basically for the 4 star hotel with this price, everything is far beyond the standard.

The staff from the hotel is very nice. Also, the breakfast is so delicious and has many choices. The room size is quite big compared to the hotel in Osaka.

The housekeeping services quality is not consistent. Sometimes they provide a bath rob sometimes they don't. However, I'm satisfied with the overall services.
