It is a very nice experience if you want to emerge into Japanese lifestyle. The food is excellent and the location just next to the deer park but also close to a bus and train station is great. The view from the room or top roof is stunning

There was nothing I did not like. A slight practical improvement would be that the light at the entrance of the room and next to the bed has a central switch to shut them all out together. Several times I forgot some and had to get up again or put off my shoes off again to go shut them out. It is not a big deal just a practical suggestion.

Very well located 10 min from Nara station, this hotel is so charming between modern with a touch of traditional :) Offering two different breakfast western or traditional which were delicious. I appreciated the private onsen upstair with the view - the Yucatan that they provide and that you can were in the hotel for your comfort - the free guide that they offer for a visit of Nara, I spend the day with Michiko she was adorable it was amazing to know about the temples and the tradition and be able to share with local person make you feel in total immersion with the place !

The room was incredible. It was one of their newer renovated rooms and was really breathtaking. The attention to detail was amazing! The private onsen tub and view was so special. The meals we had (dinner and breakfast) were probably some of the best we’ve ever had in our lives. Both left us very full, both physically and emotionally. The staff were also wonderful, especially the person who brought us to our rooms and explained how everything worked, and the server at the restaurant. Also a super convenient location, walking distance from the Nara train station.

Nothing! Everything was perfect. One of the best experiences of our lives.

We booked the room with the open air tub, and I gotta say, you must MUST do it. It was so incredibly relaxing to watch the clouds roll over the mountains while soaking. If you aren't able to, however, the public baths are lovely! The hotel had surprisingly nice amenities, from the makeup remover oil, face wash, toner, and moisturizer, to the free beverages made available by the hotel. We felt like VIPs and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

My husband struggled with sleeping on the tatami mats and had to dig out a few extra from the closet in order to sleep comfortably. Other than that, nothing!

I LOVED my stay here. This was my second time staying at Hotel New Wakasa, but this time I stayed as a solo traveler. The staff were so welcoming, friendly, and helpful with any questions I had. I was given a map of Nara upon arrival and the staff shared their walking route recommendations with me. I had arrived before check-in time, but was able to leave my luggage with the staff before heading out to walk around Nara. The room itself was clean and very calming for a restful stay. The onsen on the bottom floor was a wonderful experience and it was relaxing to hear the rain tapping on the roof over the bath. Dinner was incredible - one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. The staff were so attentive during the meal, telling me about what I was eating and its history. There also was a violinist that night who played specially requested songs from each of the guests. Breakfast was just as good - I recommend always ordering the traditional Japanese meals! There is also a rooftop terrace where you can relax and enjoy a beautiful view of Nara (both city and park) The futon mattress was comfortable and it was nice to have a cup of tea in the room at the end of a long day of walking around Nara. I cannot wait for the next time I stay here!

nothing, it was excellent

We absolutely loved our stay at the hotel! The staff was very attentive, helpful, and friendly. They gave us recommendations on what to see in Nara and for where to have one of the best dinners we've had in Japan. The facilities were beautiful, with a gorgeous roof terrace with an amazing view that we enjoyed at sunset. The hotel's onsen gave us the chance of relaxing after so many days of traveling. The location was also great, close to major Nara attractions. We only stayed for one night, but wished we could have stayed for more.

Nothing negative to add, everything was great.

We stayed in the Private Rooftop Garden room, and it was exceptional. Everything not only met the expectation of how it is presented in photo, it also far exceeded them. The private onsen in the room can not be beat after a long, hard day walking around Nara, Nara Park, and its sights. The staff were also immensely helpful in recommending a local restaurant for us as we were looking for a specific style of cuisine. However, they also organised a reservation via a phone call as well as a taxi for transportation to the restaurant. Breakfast was a full Japanese breakfast, I counted 13 different plates/bowls. Very filling compared to what we were used to, but it was quite a lovely experience.

Absolutely nothing was subpar, we could not find fault with any aspects of the stay.

The staff hospitality was great. They are very courteous and going extra miles . Prepared small gifts for the guests and gave us a nice photo printout ,entertain us with live violin during dinner (highly recommended dinner. Even for vegetarian, the chef has made great efforts 👍🏻👍🏻.). The private onsen was nice and clean. Location is good, walking distance to the deer park / station/ shopping street.

If I am being nicky-picky, is they charge for carpark after check out. But the staff still very helpful to help us find elsewhere to park (even if it is only in front of hotel). Also, as we booked tatami room, we were unable lie down for a rest (we were so beat due to the travel) while waiting for dinner as the bed was not set..

The Onsen was amazing. The service was excellent. I loved that you could have a cup of tea in your room and there was a decent fridge. There was also a coffee and tea maker just downstairs, help yourself. But we also had a little table and comfortable low chairs. The bedding was brilliant. I am 66 and I slept well, no issues. The breakfast was amazing, traditional and very varied, we tried everything and enjoyed most of the flavours. I loved that it was a short walk to the Nara park and the great buddha. The down side was that there is no dispensing machine for kilometers and we did a lot of walking. Maybe put one in somewhere outside or out of view. We were there during September and access to the sports drinks would have been a bonus. On the roof the views are breath taking. Definitely a place to stay for the Japanese cultural experience but it was a little expensive compared to other places we had stayed.

No dispensing machine. Have one somewhere out of sight for cold drinks. We walked from the train station with our bags not realizing it was so far. The taxi is only a few dollars, definitely do that, lots is uphill.

Really friendly, welcoming staff with good English, welcomed us with tea, showed us to our rooms and advised us about the local areas. Cypress room private onsen was incredible, we booked this in advance (around £25 for an hour) at sunset and had incredible views. One of my favourite onsen experiences of the trip. Public onsen spaces are also nice with multiple baths. Really close to the Nara parks and can easily walk into town for food.

A little bit far from the main shinkansen station so we had to get a taxi for these trips, but this was easily arranged.
