Very kind and helpful receptionist. On the day when we leave, she even told us which metro entrance to use to have the lift (since we had some big luggage’s) Traditional Japanese bedding set (futon) Touristic area (shopping streets, food market, metro, temples in working distance). Small shops and food markets are closed at 9pm on that area, so it’s quiet in the evening.

Sometimes there is a smell in the hall (outside the rooms, when you get out of the lift). But no problem in the room self. Maybe aeration issue. There is a side of the windows that is very close to the neighbours, so we kept our curtains closed all the time for more privacy.

I loved the location. So close to the sights of Asakusa which were quite busy during the day but then were peaceful at night. The room 'felt" more spacious than a regular hotel room, I guess because there wasn't much furniture. I also had a great view of the Skytree from my window! It was easy to get to other parts of Tokyo by train or walk to some other significant areas (eg. Sumida City). Some of these places could be crazy but it was nice to 'come home' to Asakusa and although the ryokan was literally around the corner from Nakamise Shopping Street, once you entered it, it felt so removed. The owner was lovely, she was always smiling and helpful and let me check in early at 1pm as the room was ready. I was happy to just leave my bags but it was nice to have a rest before going out again. I used the bathtub a few times (after a few busy days of sightseeing) which also had these great armrests built in. There were many shops and eating options nearby too.

The weather was a bit warm the week I was there, so my room was quite warm being on the 4th floor. However there was an aircon I used sometimes. Also, there was only a main light in the room (and separate light in the bathroom) Perhaps a small lamp could be placed in the room so the main light does not need to be kept on when reading etc.

Ryokan Mikawaya is very close to the market and shrine but still completely quiet at night. You have direct access to a huge variety of restaurants. The owners talk to you in Japanese by default but can easily switch to English so it’s a great place to practice Japanese without getting stuck. The free tea bags and coffee get refilled every morning. The bathroom had body soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, a comb and a razor. All you need to bring yourself is showergel and toothpaste.

The toilet paper is very thin. That was my only issue. I cant find anything else that needs improvement.

I loved loved LOVED this place. I wanted to stay at a ryokan, but was turned off by the high prices at some. All I wanted was a room with a futon on tatami mats, in a historically-centered part of town, for my 3 days in Tokyo before joining with Japanese colleagues on forestry field work. I like the austerity and simplicity of many aspects of the traditional Japanese lifestyle. I got what I wanted with Ryokan Mikawaya, and much more. The proprietor knows a LOT about Japan, not just Tokyo, including an impressive knowledge of the variety of Japanese foods, and where to get the best of it in Tokyo, and for not a lot of $$. Should I ever be fortunate enough to travel to this brilliantly organized and fascinating country, I would stay again at Mikawaya.

That I had only three days in Tokyo!

Very friendly owner and staff. Perfect location. Easy to get there from the airport. So much to eat and buy right next to where you sleep. Quiet at night. Comfy futon. Fresh towels every day. Everything you need you have. The ambiance is cute. It's comfy. I would stay there again for sure. It was a great home base.

The bathroom always smelled like cigarettes, maybe from the vents in other smoking rooms. This is more a Japan thing than this hotel thing. I have experienced it elsewhere on my three trips to this fascinating country. Everything else was fine. Especially when you consider the price for the location.

An authentic Japanese ryokan experience, including a fridge, aircon (a savior during hot summer days and nights), hair dryer, tea facilities, toiletries, slippers, robes, and wi-fi. Laundry facilities are available for an extra fee. Very clean and pleasant. Towels are changed every day. Room, bathroom and a lift are "Japanese size", as the owner responded to my daughter's surprise about how small everything is. I've stayed in smaller hotels that were more expensive and worse positioned, and this ryokan is fantastic value for money. Location is unbeatable - everything a tourist needs is within 100 meters, including a train station. Staff's hospitality was simply outstanding. Thank you!

The premises are somewhat dated and the beds were not rolled up during the day, as I experienced in other ryokans, but it suited us well for this trip.

Located right off the nakamise leading up to Sensoji, this was a beautiful ryokan. They keep the door locked to keep wandering tourists out, which is good. Staff were friendly, always welcoming me back and saying goodbye when I left. The lady who runs the place also speaks good English. Check-in was at 3pm, but she said I could get in 2 hours earlier (I did not take up this off as I went off exploring). The room was just as the pictures promised with tatami floor and a futon. Everything needed was in the room. I found the futon more comfortable than the standard business hotel beds I'd been sleeping in.

I loved the place, but the bathroom did not have a bidet (not a problem for me, but if you want a bidet, you may be disappointed).

I had an amazing experience at this location during my previous trip to Tokyo. I loved how central it was, making it easy to explore the city. It's just a quick walk to the subway.. The staff were outstanding; they made me feel comfortable and at ease throughout my stay. When planning my return to Tokyo, this place was my first choice because of the wonderful service and great location.

I have no complaints

The location was perfect, right in the middle of Asakusa, a really nice cozy neighbourhood. Sensoji temple is only five minutes away. It was a nice traditional experience to sleep on the futon beds and tatami mats. Way more comfortable than an average hotel bed! Everyday you get fresh towels and a new sleeping kimono. During the day you can fold up the mats and have a little table in the middle. This saves a lot of space and its helpful with the suitcases. Space is rare in Tokyo!

Location was perfect - a short walk to the station and right in the middle of the Asakusa tourist district. Heaps of food and shopping options right out your front door. The host was super friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were very comfortable and quite spacious - the futons were very comfy too! One of our rooms even had a stunning view of the tower! Would definitely stay again.
