Fantastic hotel. Being an old military barracks it looks plain on the outside (though the building is lit up at night with fairy lights). But inside it is quirky, welcoming and has a really lovely vibe to it. The staff are super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The family room we had was a good size, it's fairly basic but the beds were comfortable, but quite frankly the feel of the place and the staff trumped any more modern hotel. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful and there are lovely views over the canal. I can imagine it is fantastic in the summer. There were little touches that added to the great ambience - candle lit tables at breakfast, a personal feel to the staff who really cared about what they did and music that gave it a holiday feel. And if you Love animals there is a resident cat. It's about a 20 minute walk to the Central station and depending on which way you go between 20 - 45 minute walk to the attractions etc. We walked everywhere but of course you can take the tram or bus. I would definitely return here.

We could have done with a mirror in our room and the lightly was a bit dim but other than that nothing,

The location was great for my purposes: close to the main train station, walking distance to the city center (if you like to walk), but in a quiet area. During my stay there were different people on the reception however all of them were very friendly and helpful. The heating was working, if needed the extra blanket is provided. Room for one was simple and small but enough for comfort staying. The bathroom was clean. Elevator is slow but it’s a lifesaver after a long day full of walking. The hotel has it own brewery with good beer. Food in the local bar was also good.

After checking the reviews I new the hotel is modest and simple so I didn’t expect smth extraordinary. It totally worth its price.

The lounge, cafe areas are beautiful but not really suitable for young kids to be in. Fantastic location for us, lots to do within walking distance. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere around the hotel with people out swimming and socializing. The beds were really comfy, everything was spotless and the bathroom of family room was really nice.

No safety device on windows in the room and no aircon. It was very hot while we were in Amsterdam and it is a family room so I was very surprised there were no limiters on the big windows. There was a small fan provided. The included breakfast is set and everything is brought out to you. I enjoyed it but it wasn't to my husband's taste. Kids ate some of it but it was very wasteful. (Toast, croissant, fruit salad, cheese, granola, yoghurt , boiled egg) My husband would have preferred to order from their cafe menu if we hadn't already paid. The room decor was very basic and verging on just old rather than stylish vintage. The "seating area" in the room was a round table and chairs. Comfy seating and a coffee table would be more appropriate.

What an amazing find Pension Homeland is! I loved that the 1960’s Naval College building has been repurposed to great use! The quirky, period decor is stunning and simply enhances the overall laid-back vibe throughout the hotel. The bar area is fabulous, with access out to the large outdoor space, which overlooks the dock and affords fabulous open maritime views! The bedroom are basic but super comfortable, with a modern en-suite. The cool décor continues in the rooms and the view I had from mine (207) was fabulous! All this and an easy 20 minute stroll from Amsterdam’s bustling centre and old town. The members of staff at reception were extremely welcoming and very helpful! I will definitely be back and can highly recommend!!

There was absolutely nothing I didn’t like.

We have stayed at Pension Homeland before, and made sure to book a couple of nights again on this return trip! We love this place. It is not far from the central train station, and the hustle and bustle of central Amsterdam...but it is just far enough away from all that to be a quiet and relaxing place to stay. Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to food, but we found the restaurant to be excellent. And there is a brewery on site...enough said? If not, I'll add that the beer was very very good and I wish I could have brought some home with me. The gentleman at the front desk on the Saturday morning of our stay was extremely helpful when we accidently purchased museum tickets for the wrong day: he stayed on the phone with the museum until it was sorted out, something we could not possibly have accomplished as we do not speak Dutch. I hope it will not be the last time we stay at Pension Homeland

Nothing. We love this place.

Room was comfortable and clean. Security was a nice feature. Location of the hotel in relation to the city is walkable. Location to the cruise port is great, just a 10 to 15 minute walk dragging our suitcases. Breakfast was very good. The restaurant is really good. We had dinner at the hotel and the staff was great, as was the food.

One morning we did not have any hot water. The shower with cold water wasn't the best but it had to do. The front desk staff gave us a free breakfast that morning, after we ordered. That was very nice. I wouldn't have ordered any different had I known the breakfast was going to be taken care of.

We really loved the old but gold character of Pension Homeland, very well-thought of, from the selection of furniture to the vinyl corner. On this note, if you are looking for a modern accommodation, then this is definitely not your thing!!! We appreciated the fact that we asked for a room with a view on our booking, and when we got there we realized that they took our request into consideration, thank you for that, waking up to the view of the port was breathtaking :)) It is also a big advantage having a bar, with a pool table and their own brewed beers in the property!!

One of the mornings we grabbed the Homeland Breakfast, and I have to say it was quite disappointing (shown in one of the photos attached). For 19.50€pp I would expect some more quality and quantity… Two boiled eggs, some yoghurt and poor fruits, very little granola for 2 people (we even asked if they forgot to bring the rest for the second person and they said that’s all for both of us haha), a couple of toasted breads with 2 different jams and butter, and 2 croissants along with coffee or tea and orange juice, don’t add up…

This hotel is close to the Maritime and Nemo Museums. There is a restaurant/brewery downstairs with a view of the water. The room was clean and in good working order. Staff were helpful and courteous. There is a very friendly hotel cat.

The hotel and restaurant offer board games but many of the pieces are missing rendering the games unplayable. Billiards table is available but requires a usage fee. The fee for billiards table can only be paid in coins or banking app which most foreigners do not have. Additionally, the restaurant and hotel do not have coins as customers pay by card.

Extremely comfortable bed and pillows in a reasonably spacious, well-lit room in this hotel in the historic old navy dockyard area. There was a working safe in the cupboard and separate hanging space with 6 hangers. Large desk in front of a big window with a lovely view looking over the surrounding water and Maritime and Science Museums. The sink was in the room itself, with a separate shower (hot water, with soap dispenser, but no shelf upon which to place toiletries) and toilet. Small bottles of take-away body lotion available. There was a pantry area on each floor with water jugs, hot drink making facilities and Dutch language books. The decor was quirky and fun in the communal areas, with a nice feel to the restaurant (lunch/dinner also available- egg & cheese toast was delicious). Breakfast was set if that's what you booked as included through booking.com and comprised yoghurt, fruit (small quantity, cut-up) and granola; jam and butter; boiled egg with 1 slice of white toast, 1 slice of fresh brown bread and 1 large croissant each; also 2 slices of Dutch cheese and 1 cherry tomato each, with a glass of delicious freshly squeezed orange juice, plus a cup of tea/coffee. The quality was very nice, although quantity could've been better for us hungry travellers! There was the option to purchase more items off the menu. Enjoyed meeting the resident cat, in between her regular naps on top of the radiator in reception!

More quantity would've been great for the set breakfast, but it was presented very nicely and this comment probably just reflects greed! At least having the option of several slices of toast (rather than just the one) would be a perfect addition to what is included.
