The lounge, cafe areas are beautiful but not really suitable for young kids to be in. Fantastic location for us, lots to do within walking distance. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere around the hotel with people out swimming and socializing. The beds were really comfy, everything was spotless and the bathroom of family room was really nice.

No safety device on windows in the room and no aircon. It was very hot while we were in Amsterdam and it is a family room so I was very surprised there were no limiters on the big windows. There was a small fan provided. The included breakfast is set and everything is brought out to you. I enjoyed it but it wasn't to my husband's taste. Kids ate some of it but it was very wasteful. (Toast, croissant, fruit salad, cheese, granola, yoghurt , boiled egg) My husband would have preferred to order from their cafe menu if we hadn't already paid. The room decor was very basic and verging on just old rather than stylish vintage. The "seating area" in the room was a round table and chairs. Comfy seating and a coffee table would be more appropriate.

What an amazing find Pension Homeland is! I loved that the 1960’s Naval College building has been repurposed to great use! The quirky, period decor is stunning and simply enhances the overall laid-back vibe throughout the hotel. The bar area is fabulous, with access out to the large outdoor space, which overlooks the dock and affords fabulous open maritime views! The bedroom are basic but super comfortable, with a modern en-suite. The cool décor continues in the rooms and the view I had from mine (207) was fabulous! All this and an easy 20 minute stroll from Amsterdam’s bustling centre and old town. The members of staff at reception were extremely welcoming and very helpful! I will definitely be back and can highly recommend!!

There was absolutely nothing I didn’t like.

This hotel is a true gem! The location is just perfect. You can reach the city centre and red-light district easily on foot. The building overlooks the waterfront and the view from the rooms is just great, both night and daytime. The room was tidy, clean and comfy. Simple, but nice. The style of it is a bit old-fashioned, which brings extra coziness to the place. You can easily adjust the heating to suit your needs. The private open-air parking is a value, and you don't need to reserve in advance. The atmosphere in the restaurant is just awesome, and the food was really good, including the beer from hotel's own brewery. The terrace looked great too, unfortunately, the weather was not good for sitting outside, but for such days there is a fireplace in one of the halls! They have a lift and a storage room for your luggage to keep after check out or before check in. They even have a cat! (omg, what else do you need to feel happy?) But what makes the hotel stand out is people! Such a great team that make you feel at home, always ready to help, always smiling. Sabina was just the best! We had such a warm welcome! When we go back to Amsterdam, will only stay here for sure!!! Thank you and looking forward to our next visit!

I absolutely loved my stay at pension Homeland . Repurposed Marine Officer's Accommodation ,retains the 70's fixtures na fittings with a refreshed current look .Overall effect is funky modern , simple clean and everything you will need in the city centre . VERY close to Central station ( 20mins walk and there is left luggage at the station but watch the opening and closing times!) I was solo and felt comfortable walking to the hotel late at night on my own ( probably not after midnight but fine before) The restaurant served a fantastic breakfast , lunch was brilliant and dinner was superb . I felt completely comfortable eating alone ( not easy when you are widowed and not used to eating alone ) there was free coffee and tea on the second floor. I LOVED my 0630h swim in the fresh water harbour RIGHT in front / side of the hotel; swimming with the coots will forever remain a highlight!! I walked several different ways back from city centre back and they all felt safe There were buses close to the hotel and lots of lovely looking local eateries which I plan to try next time .. but loved the food at the hotel. Apple maps took me an "interesting"/less direct route route past biological gardens HUGE fungal towers, and brightly light harbour cafes

I couldn't stay longer - There was so much to do and explore . If they could also provide option of a towel for swimming that would be the icing on the cake of a great place to stay

lack of air conditioning was a negative for spoiled Americans. but, the fan did a pretty good job of compensating.

The staff were so friendly and attentive. The location was fantastic. We looked forward to the breakfasts every morning and the facilities at the hotel overall are great. We had chance to eat there in the evening too and the food is amazing.

The walls are so thin you can hear everything, even the quietest noises in the next rooms and in the room above you- including bathroom noises which were not massively pleasant! I think the staff used the room next door to have their breaks and we could hear every cough and whisper. No surprise with the style of building but I did wonder if the hotel could perhaps use soft furnishings to obfuscate the noise- it's a minor point when you're busy city sightseeing though!

Everything! The staff were super friendly and helpful, the room was clean, spacious, plenty natural light and comfy bed and had everything we needed. The hotel itself was very quirky and the food was excellent at good prices. The location o f the hotel was perfect as it was only 15 minutes walk into the centre and round about the hotel is perfect for picnics and sunbathing. The night entertainment was brilliant in the hotel which was well attended and a very enjoyable evening. We could store our luggage at the hotel as we had an evening flight home which was very convenient. Overall the hotel is perfect with plenty amenities and super friendly staff and customers. Will definitely return to this hotel 👌also on each floor there is coffee/tea making facilities that were well stocked for all residents.

We loved everything about the Pension Homeland. Although we are in our 70s, we loved being surrounded by, at times, loud music and hundreds of sunbathers who were catching the last of a hot Amsterdam summer. The hotel has a first class chef, a friendly host/bartender who serves craft brewed beers, and friendly and professional staff. Perfect views of the replica sailing ship and a major canal. The booking.com photos suggest a quiet (maybe even dull) place. This couldn't be farther from the truth. It's fun, hip, and a short walk to the bus to the central station.

Except for the laughingly slow elevator, it was perfect.

Great stay! Comfortable bed, pleasant room, very friendly staff, good food and beer in the on-site restaurant, lovely kitty. Location was good for walking into the downtown (maybe a mile/20 mins from Centraal Station). I believe a bus stop is nearby for those who do not want to walk. The single bed was a little wider than most single beds in pensions. Nice view of a park. On my floor there was a little coffee and tea room with teas and instant coffee and a hot water pot which was nice. Not sure if there is a grocery store nearby, but we found a couple while walking around the central and historic area. The pension provides a washcloth in the bathroom which is rare in Europe and appreciated. Very pleasant place and better price than much of Amsterdam.

No hairdryer, no fridge in room- not expected at a pension but still may be of note for any travelers looking over reviews for amenities.

Perfectly situated - very close to the main station in a quiet neighbourhood with a view ofthe water and a park. The hotel is a former officers' home and has a nostalgic 1960s/1970s feeling. The restaurant has very comfortable chairs and wonderful views - and a gorgeous breakfast (the poached eggs are especially good). It is quiet, and you can rent bikes. A great place to stay in Amsterdam.

Amsterdan is a bit pricey, but this simply the way it is - and for Amsterdam, this place is good value.
