Perfect location, just right across New World Supermarket, few steps away from the waterfront, just stones throw away from Te Papa

The location of the hostel is great, right by the waterfront and the Te Papa museum and less than 10 minute walk to Cuba Street. The room was spacious. The bathroom was small but completely fine for a few days, especially for the price it was good value for money. There's also a small fridge in the room. The kitchen area is clean and large and the check-in process was easy, and we arrived after reception hours too. All in all we had a lovely time and would stay again!
There's no parking, however you can park overnight for free and between the hours of 8am to 5pm on weekdays it's $5 per hour literally across the road from the hostel. There's also lots of car parking around the city.

Probably the best hostel we’ve ever stayed in. Private rooms were hotel standard and the two large kitchens were fantastic. Lots of seating area and kept very clean and tidy. Fantastic location in centre of Wellington. Whole building was kept well maintained and the shared bathrooms were good and always clean too. Body soap included in showers is always a nice touch. All sorts of people staying there not just backpackers and had a real comfortable feel to the place.
Only thing was that that both lifts were out of order when we were there. Also private rooms are on the cost side so might be tight if you had large suitcases

It’s central, very close to a New World supermarket and the Te Papa museum. Surrounded by many bars and restaurants as well. It is walkable to all sights, but can be rather far (e.g. parliament) for the elderly. You get the facilities you paid for. The private bathroom was basic. But the beds were comfortable. The reception staff were busy but friendly. They will try their best to meet your needs.
It is next to some main streets, so it can be somewhat noisy at night. Maybe we stayed during the weekend, the reception opening hours were unpredictable. For example, it was unmanned from circa 4pm in one afternoon. And on the day we suppose to check out, the reception weren’t open until 10 am. Therefore if you want to leave your luggages, it can be a problem.

The staff at the reception were great & always happy to help with any queries. The beds are comfortable & the facilities including the kitchen are clean and spacious. The complimentary toiletries in the rooms smell delicious with plenty to use.
Unfortunately I had another guest snoring underneath my bed my entire stay meaning I had little sleep. This was out of Haka Houses control though. I put a lower score on cleanliness as housekeeping is not done in the room throughout your stay, so bins were full throughout etc. I think it would be a nice touch if bins were emptied daily, with 4 women backpackers they were full from the first day as the bins are really small too.

Haka House was great for our two night stay. We were familiar with the property when it used to be the YHA so we knew what to expect in regards to the fact that it’s a hostel. However our private ensuite room that overlooked the harbour was just like a hotel. This place is in a great location and the beds were comfy. It’s suited our needs and expectations.
The lift is currently being refurbished so we had to use the stairs which wasn’t a problem as we didn’t have suitcases but this may be a problem for those less mobile or with big cases if the refurbishment is going to take a while. We found using the stairs wasn’t a problem however we did think that the stairwells could have benefitted from a vacuum - it made what was otherwise a nice clean environment look a bit shabby.

It is important to note that THIS PROPERTY IS A HOSTEL NOT A HOTEL. However having said this the room we were given was good, clean, plenty of hot water in the private bathroom. Staff were very helpful. The location was very good, close to the musuem and conference centre with a variety of good restaurants close by. As a hostel it has laundry facilities though they were not easy to use
As a HOSTEL there were a number of visiting sports teams during our visit, BUT while they sometimes crowded reception facilities all were very good natured and with veyr few exceptions the hostel was quiet.

The location is quite superb if you're relying on public transport - it's a few minutes away from Courtenay Place, which is a major bus stop; it is also right in front of a large supermarket. The room I was in was small, but appropriately sized for 2 beds, as opposed to the room I had in Auckland within the same chain. Luckily I didn't share the room with anyone else, but even if I had, there would have still been plenty of space. I only used the kitchen and lounge to fill up my water bottle, but the space looked spacious and well-equipped. But otherwise there were plenty of restaurants on a wide range of budget. The staff were friendly and helpful too.
For me the bathroom was a bit far from the room, so it would be advisable to bring some slippers (they didn't sell slippers at the hostel, if I remember correctly). Also its location in the corner of a busy street may make it not so friendly for ridehauling cars, so you might then need to walk a little or have the driver go around before arriving.

Haka House is centrally located, directly opposite Te Papa on the harbor and everything is super easy to reach from there. I had my own room with a private bathroom which was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The area is safe and the bus stops are just around the corner.
As the house is located directly at a large, busy road, my room was quite noisy. The kitchen was also relatively dirty. However, this was not because the staff did not clean, but because the guests simply did not clean up after they had prepared their meal.

Lots of comfortable spaces to hang out in and relax Big kitchen and dining area with space for your items in fridge and freezer Privacy curtains were great so I could have reading light on and not wake roommates All girl dorm was lovely and had a very good hot shower with nice shower products provided in ensuite Luggage room available so to not worry about leaving larger bags in the car Reception was fantastic and gave amazing recommendations for places to visit on my trip to the Cape to see lighthouse and lots of seals
Sports team staying there was a bit rowdy but overall nice Curtains on bed missing some hooks tbh Would be nice to have a window with big screens to open in room to let in fresh air Would be good to remind travellers to come with a lock for lockers in rooms as a first time traveler I wasn’t aware.
