This is our first visit to Madeira and it went beyond our expectations. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful from the start, from the receptionist to the hotel staff, caterers, waiters, waitresses, cleaners alike. The location of the hotel was just what we wanted, not too busy and a good range of restaurants within walking distance. The hotel restaurant offers excellent food but a good idea to book a reservation. Our room was located on the ground floor with a balcony overlooking Camara de Lobos bay. It had a large bed, excellent shower, room enough for clothes, (if you have long dresses they won't hang up as the wardrobe has two shelves lower down, I hung mine in the bathroom off the shower) a fridge which was very useful to keep the water cold, a TV, a very good hair dryer which I was relieved about as this is the first holiday I haven't taken my own and a small table and two chairs on the balcony. Included in the service was a bottle of water each day and tea and coffee facilities. Our room was cleaned daily and fresh towel were supplied when needed. Everything we would have wanted. We hope to visit again in the New Year, would definitely recommend.

We had such a lovely holiday at Pestana Churchill Bay Hotel I couldn't think of anything I didn't like about it. The locals were also very friendly and welcoming as you walked around the bay.

Hands down the best holiday we’ve had in years! If you’re going to Madeira, stay here and you’ll not regret a minute of it. The hotel was beautifully decorated, immaculate and clean, very comfortable and views were stunning. The staff were the friendliest people we’ve met on the whole island and they tended to our needs with patience, kindness and understanding. We were always welcomed with a smile, and they make you feel so looked after with their impeccable, professional and friendly service, whilst also respecting privacy. We’ll be so sad to leave! The location was fantastic, right next to the sea, with a bustling atmosphere of the local fishing village. Thank you, Pestana Churchill Bay. We’ll be back!

Exceptional hotel. We had a fantastic stay. It suited us very well (2 adults and 2 teens). The hotel has a beautiful location overlooking the bay in a small village/town where it has been designed to blend in with the local buildings. We enjoyed being surrounded by Madeiran people going about their daily life rather than tourists. A lovely welcome by the reception team and all the staff from the restaurant team through to the housekeeping were friendly and professional throughout our stay. The breakfast offered was first class, a fantastic choice and quality of food, and served on the terrace as the sun rose. Such a beautiful way to start the day. The rooms were spotless, very quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed our balcony overlooking the bay. We'd recommend the second floor rooms for this reason. The sun terrace was spacious with a lovely pool plus a supply of pool towels for guest use so no need for wet towels in the room. Easy to get to Funchal (15mins) or to Cabo de Girao using the local buses (Rodoeste). Also can arrange car hire (CarXOP) through the hotel which was reasonable and SUP in the bay and along the coast (MadeiraSUPTours).

We liked everything. Our only suggestion would be to let guests know a little more local information if an event is happening in Funchal or Camara do Lobos. We really enjoyed watching the local procession from the church to the quayside in Camara do Lobos for a religious service but were lucky to see it as we weren't aware it was going to happen. Similarly the flower festival had been postponed and was happening in Funchal during our stay but we only found out about the events being held after they had happened.

Comfortable, spacious, plenty sockets and USB charging points, fantastic breakfast, beautiful view, small swimming pool with view, helpful reception staff

Cleaning staff forgot twice to replace towels they had taken away. Parking is worth thinking about in advance. Nearby open car park, 2min walk,costs €1/h 8am-8pm (Mon-Fri I think) but only takes coins and can be busy or you can pay €12/day with the hotel. Underground carpark 5min walk from the hotel, once again €1/h by coins only or €7.5/day with the hotel. There is often space on level 2, level 3 is near empty and the car doesn’t feel like an oven when you get in.

Lovely location on the water oozing historical charm throughout the Churchill bay area. Restaurants.markets madeiran wine tasting all walkable. Hotel very comfortable and somewhat low key in approach. Staff exceptionally accommodating throughout. Breakfast excellent with Lovely locale. Would suggest second floor room.

Amazing buffet breakfast, I had an omelette freshly made most days the view over the port in the morning was beautiful the last few days building work started to widen the road, but it didn't bother us, although it may some people Isabel, Ana, Emanuel, Pedro, made our stay Exceptional - one other piece of advice - Hire A Car - there is so much to see

I spent 2 weeks on Madeira and was very happy I booked this hotel, the location is like out of a dream, the room view overlooking the bay was unique for the island I believe and Camara de Lobos quieter but much more authentic than Funchal. The staff were extremely nice and helped in many ways, to rent a car and book trips. I also recommend their restaurant, the fish there was really good. Breakfast was good.

Beautiful room and very elegant public rooms in this very charming pousada in a small and picturesque fishing village. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food, lunch was very good and breakfast was excellent. The hotel is in a wonderful setting in the very centre of the village of Camara de Lobos. Views are amazing!

Nothing. The village is tiny and busy and bustling all day and into the evening so a little road and people noise outside our room was to be expected. This wasn’t a problem for us and it quietened down way before bedtime.

No fault of the hotel management but right outside the building was on-going extensive improvement works to the sea wall and its environs. This included a large digger and a succession of lorries taking away rocks away the bay area. So, as a consequence very noisy and smelly from the vehicle engines. So, we couldnt really use our balcony or the hotel terrace during the day. My understanding that the work has over ran and been going on for months. I'm sure the bay will look fantastic when the works have finished!

Great location overlooking the bay, great breakfast. Staff were excellent and it was nice to be offered a welcome drink on the terrace. The Village that Churchill Bay is in (Camara de Lobos) is lovely, some nice bars and restaurants and good mix of tourists and locals. Good value too. You can also walk to Funchal along a coastal path that takes about two hours but has some nice bars en route. We also hired a car through the hotel. Car was delivered to the Hotel and the car hire company was superb.

The room was nice, with a great outlook. There was a smell though from the bathroom, perhaps due to the hotel being at the bottom of the bay and the air con could have been more effective. That said I would certainly stay again if visiting Madeira.
