I planned a trip for 14 friends and this was one of our stayes. I had trepidations about The Luggage, but all for naught. The house was a gorgeous old mansion that had been fairly well divided and excellently restored/remodeled. The rooms were spacious & beautiful, windows and woodwork classic, and bathrooms well built and provisioned. The help was super helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were some of the best we had while in Portugal. It was an easy walk to Papa resaurant - recommended, and the university.
We happened to be there the first night of fall semester. Techno pop played and amazingly high volume at a park about a 100 meters away until 2:30AM.

Breakfast had lovely selection of cereals, cold meat, cheese, breads, buns, hard boiled eggs and hot scrambled eggs, bacon and beans, yogurt and fruit juices. Choice of different coffee brews plus hot chocolate. Rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds. Free parking is available on nearby streets, no problem finding space! Thanks to Tony for recommendation of “Papa” & “Praixis” restaurants and for suggestions of things to see and do!

The house is nearly 100 years old and is beautiful with stunning views, from a huge balcony, across Coimbra. The facilities are excellent and clean and the breakfast was varied and self help. Ask for room 203 as it has access to the balcony, a living room, the bathroom is external just across the hall but not a problem and this is why the room is so big. Arthur at reception was very helpful. It is close to everything you want to see.

Close to the University, not far from city center. Very spacious room; classic elegance in an old manor house, with some nice modern touches. The breakfast was good, although not the best we had on our trip.
I wish they had made better use of the balcony/terrace space, possibly for breakfasts, or at least for afternoon lounging. Also, beware: Its proximity to the University means that there can be a LOT of noise at night -- seemed like there was a nightclub concert happening just below the host. I guess it's not that we didn't like it, per se (it's to be expected given the location), but it did deprive us of a bit of sleep... :-)

Everything about this property is just lovely, we really enjoyed the comfort of staying here. The period of the building was matched by the interior/decor. We had an external bathroom for our stay, but it was no real problem, just across the hall from our room. All linen and towels were clean and comfy. Staff were so friendly and helpful providing an explanation of the area and places to go and see and where they were located.
We were here for a Thursday/Friday night stay and because the property is at the top of the hill the noise from the bars in the square below travelled up hill. The first night the music was going till 4am, the 2nd night we joined in!!

The Luggage is hosted in a nice traditional house with nice views over the old town. Our twin room was simple but functional, relatively spacious with high ceiling, beds were comfy. Bathroom was private but outside (~ opposite) the bedroom, and it had a good shower. Breakfast was self-service and decent, with fruit/ham&cheese/pastries/etc, and nice views from the indoor breakfast room. We left early in the morning (at around 6 AM) to catch an early train but the host prepared some generous breakfast the day before and left it in the kitchen for us to take away, which was much appreciated.
Nothing really. It might get a little noisy if there are big groups (which we didn't experience during our stay) because the bedroom doors are not heavy and you can hear the stairs' floorboards and people talking from other rooms.

Our 2nd night, after a room change, was exceptional - spacious beautiful room on the 2nd floor with stunning views of the city. The room had lovely antique furniture and was very tastefully decorated, with a beautiful bathroom. Buffet breakfast was very good, served in a light filled sunroom. The Luggage has several lovely common areas - sitting room, bar, study. When booking, ask for a superior room or check specifics of the room.
We had booked a room 6 months in advance, specifically with as few stairs as possible, and to help us celebrate our 50th anniversary. Our first room on the top 3rd floor was small with low ceilings and one small window, and a closet that we couldn't open without moving the carpet, a shower that was so small, it was difficult to keep the door closed when the person showering had to turn around. The host was very responsive to my concerns and upgraded us the 2nd night to a spectacular room with high ceilings and three large windows on the 2nd floor.

Good location- Coimbra is very hilly so walking anywhere involved lots of walking. Lovely old building with lots of charming features. Helpful staff - gave us lots of good information about restaurants etc
Not a fault of the Guest House but we were there in May when all the Uni Students were celebrating until 3 and 4 o’clock in the morning so quite noisy. Loved seeing the students singing and performing during waking hours but they did wake us up often at night.

If you're driving into Coimbra, you really can't do much better than The Luggage. It is a 15-ish min walk into the the town center – not bad in the least and if you're coming into Coimbra w/ a car there is no parking in the old town anyways. The architecture & history of The Luggage's building is charming & unique – the staff filled us in on it when we checked in. Breakfast had everything you could want / need. All in all, we had a wonderful stay.

Very close to one of the main squares (Praça da República) and the University. The room that we chose is super bright and beautifully renovated. The welcoming by the staff was very kind and quick.
Knowing the difficulty for this kind of ancient building, they should really work on sound isolation from the exterior. Some weekdays can be very noisy with students partying outside (if you're not joining).
