This is one of the best hotels that we've ever been to. The hotel staff was super friendly to us and other guests, the location is amazing (exactly in the old town next to cozy restaurants and the promenade), the room was spacious and stylish, the breakfast was excellent, and the pool and the bar at the rooftop were also really pleasant. I only have nice things to say about the Barcelo hotel! Tip: If you're looking for a quick yet inexpensive way to get from the airport to the hotel, consider a shuttle bus that's right next to the exit from the airport. As of Oct 2023, it's just 5 euro per person (or 8 euro for a return trip), and it'll take you to a bus stop (number 6) that's really close to the Barcelo hotel. Note that they only accept cash in the bus.

Very clean, nice staff, good breakfast, comfy beds, beautiful interior decor, right in the centre of the old town where there is so much more going on than in the other nearby areas. Would recommend, we stayed on the top floor at the back corner. It was noted as the quietest section of the hotel. Gym was also small but good, adequate for most workouts.

Could improve on a few more vegan options for breakfast.

Apparently it’s only been open since February so we’re we’re delighted to find it such an amazing hotel fright in the middle of the city. Great facilities and pool on the roof.

Our room was above a night club that had a licence to open 10pm until 4am! Yes really. Fri night was annoying but Saturday night I phoned reception at 1/4 to 3am and was offered another room for the rest of the night. Not something the hotel can change as it’s an old license but not fun to sleep above. Staff were quick to respond to my ph call and very apologetic as they are aware of the problem.

The hotel is in a prime location within easy reach of restaurants, bars and bus transport. Loved the room very spacious (we had a Junior Suite). The rooftop pool and bar was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was amazing but a little chaotic as peak times. Plenty of taxi's available within a 2 minutes walk.

The restaurant choice was very limited and very expensive compared to other restaurants very close by. Drinks were, in some cases, double the price. The noise at night from a Cocktail bar right next to the hotel was disturbing so a higher floor room would probably have been quieter we were on the 1st floor.

The included breakfast was incredible, the staff were professional & welcoming, the location was perfect and central, the price was very reasonable, the roof terrace would be wonderful in summer (we didn’t swim but we did enjoy the sun up there). The bed was comfy and the room was clean. We liked the little touches too (complimentary chocolates and drinks from the minibar).

A relatively minor thing but the shower has a rain shower and a standard shower head but the standard doesn’t attach to the wall. Unless you want to use it in a hand held way (I don’t) you have to use the rain shower and get your hair wet every day. Also we were on the first floor and were woken up every morning by chatter and noise from the cafe outside. Being ear plugs if this will bother you.

This is the best hotel for the price in the whole Madeira. Best location you can find if you want some action and to reach everything easily in Funchal. I can say that we liked this hotel even more than the most expensive Savoy's in Funchal and Calheta. Less people, better food.

Please, do the rule that you can not put towels on the pool bed for the whole day... Some people just leave it for the whole day and it is impossible to find a pool bed to lay down.

Beautiful hotel with rooftop pool and nice interiors. Very kind and helpful staff.

You need to understand that this hotel is in city center close to rushy streets. If you keep your window open during night, then you can expect and rushy street noises at sooner morning hours - we had room on first floor on side toward street with local snack bar... There is no campus or hotel exterior areas. Parking is also not close to hotel. In best case you can park on seafront road - i.e. 100-150m far from hotel by walking.

Modern hotel in the heart of Funchal , walking distance to the main centre of old town, harbour and gardens , in particular to our rum festival Great view from roof top bar of the harbour and Funchal hills and centre- even though the pool was on a small side . We did not mind … Very helpful staff at reception Excellent choices of breakfast and omelette station with a friendly chef The bed was the most comfortable one I have stayed in a hotel too

We managed fine , our room was near the restaurants end , but if you are a light sleeper-Can be very noisy as it is in the centre of Funchal when bed room windows open, and even when windows closed -with bars and restaurants closing time and opening time , Bins being emptying ….

Lovely location. Very comfortable bed. Lovely bathroom with great waterfall shower. Everywhere very clean & well maintained/serviced. Majority of the staff were friendly & helpful.

Although there was a lot of choice on the breakfast buffet a number of items were not labelled making it difficult to decided exactly what they were. The biggest disappointment was the ‘hot’ breakfast items. Nothing was hot! At the very best they were sometimes lukewarm but were more generally cold! Even freshly cooked eggs and omelettes were barely warm as they are cooked so slowly!

The skybar and pool on the roof are FAB! So relaxing to come back and enjoy the cold water with a view over the city and of course a glass of wine. The beds are huge and comfortable. Staff are polite, breakfast has everything you need and all the food is super fresh.

One day we had to move from the roof since there was an unannounced party. Even the bar closed for guests. This was a bit rude, especially regarding the price you pay for a night. And they do not have parking. If you do rent a car (advise to do so for discovering the island), you can park your car in Almirante Reis Car Park for 15 EUR a day, it's a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
