Breakfast was excellent, staff were fantastic and very helpful. We were able to go grape picking, We had a wine museum visit which is on property and wine tasting of their wine afterwards too. The property has a good size swimming pool. Beatriz, who checked us in , was always at hand for anything that was needed, truly excellent service. I recommend this property for family and friends , we had the 4 bed house all to ourselves it has 5 beds and large dining and living spaces both inside and the outside veranda too. For groups of 2 /4 they also have a smaller property that caters for that with two double bedded rooms house ,which I had the privilege of being shown around by Mrs Cristina , and would also recommend that too. Mrs Cristina was a fantastic host.

We stayed in the 4 bedroom house - which is the whole upper floor of the main, beautifully restored original house. There’s just the breakfast room and wine tasting terrace below so you effectively have the whole building to yourself. The amazing decor, including antique furniture, is even more beautiful and spacious than the photos show. The team was friendly and helpful, serving a huge delicious breakfast (included) and offering wine tasting and restaurant recommendations. It’s really great value for the price. The pool looked great, with a nice area for sitting or lounging, but the weather wasn’t warm enough to try it out. It’s a short drive to a huge local supermarket and restaurants in Lemargo.

The only minor point to note is that the “motorway” runs just below the property so you can hear the traffic when you sit out on the magnificent terrace. It didn’t detract from our stay but you should be aware.

the friendly service, the chalet that seemed more private than the main house, the kindness of everyone-from the owner, to the staff, to their dogs! we also liked the generosity of coffees, waters and farm grown olive oil that was refilled and plentiful. Also the impeccable service at breakfast, it was such a presentation every morning! just delighted and so calming

The linens and towels were heavily fragranced and thus did not make them hypoallergenic as stated in their booking information. Also, for a couple of nights the dogs barked enough to continuously wake us up throughout the night. This didn’t give us a good sleep. The other nights they were super quiet.

This is arguably one of the nicest quintas I have ever visited. The setting is beautiful; the staff are all wonderful, and the facilities first rate. There was a nespresso machine and 2 varieties of port available for our consumption. The kitchen has a nice frig, there was a huge selection of glasses, plates, and cutlery. A kettle, microwave, and dual hot plate were available.

Absolutely nothing. Anyone would find this a pleasant experience, no matter how critical or demanding. The breakfast was excellent, but to be fair there weren't any hot offerings. Breads, croissants, cheeses, cold cuts, jams, butter, coffee, hot milk, fruits, yogurt, etc. etc. were all fresh and delicious.

ok, let me tell you: This was THE BEST property I ever stayed in my LIFE!!! (and I traveled the world) Even though we booked a guesthouse, upon arrival the girl told us that they decided to upgrade us and give us a big house. Yes, just for us. No, no extra money. Yes, all for you. Wait... whaaaat?! I was shocked. The main house is 200 year old quinta, with 2 living rooms, 4 bedrooms, full kitchen (American size full kitchen) and a terrace overlooking the vineyard. I could not believe it. I almost cried when I was walking through the house: antique furniture, fantastic views, comfortable bed. It felt weird to have all of that just for two of us (my husband and I). I loved their kitchen and particularly their fridge with a "window" for bottles. )) the kitchen had everything, so every evening we cooked meals and enjoyed the view from the terrace. The people that work at quinta were the most genuine, graceful and kind human beings I ever met. Hard working folks. they even told us that they give us free wine and port ("here are two decanters - you can drink as much as you want" - I did not abuse that privilege). We also had a vine tasting session with them (50 percent off if you are a guest). Their wines are ...ok, pretty average, but I am a wine connoisseur. But the not only they did wine tasting, they did some food pairing with that. I felt guilty for not buying anything. Overall. If you have a chance to stay at this quinta - do not hesitate! Grab the opportunity. I had 3 most romantic days/nights in my life. oh, and the quietness of this place .... it felt like paradise! I only wish I could stay longer. Everything was super clean.

My husband, his cousin and I loved absolutely everything about this property. It is gorgeous, the house is magnificent with amazing views of the vineyards, and the plantings surrounding the property are stunning. We had access to free port wine which was delicious and we had a choice of a wine bottle as we left. All of this would have given Quinta da Portela a rating of 10 but our love for this lodging doesn't stop there. What we will remember most about our experience is the young woman, Beatriz, who greeted us, served us a wonderful breakfast and gave us a tour of the vineyard museum which is absolutely fascinating! We learned a lot about the wine industry, about the making of port and about how the industry has changed (or not changed) over time. As we left, we asked about a route to drive for a good view of the magnificent Douro Valley; Beatriz suggested a route that was one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. Beatriz is a true ambassador for the property and for Portugal in general.

For me, with a bad neck, softer, flatter pillows would have been good. They may be available but I didn't ask. If traveling, it might be something to inquire about before arriving.

STOP READING COMMENTS AND BOOK THIS NOW.... Seriously. This is by far our best stay in any hotel or other accommodation worldwide. This place has EVERYTHING. Saying the service was amazing is an understatement (seriously, that was top-class service). We felt like king and queen. The location is just idyllic. We got to enjoy free port wine on our private balcony overlooking the vineyard. The 2 bedroom chalet was just huge for 2 of us. We felt privileged staying in a 200+ year old house. Most comfortable bed in Portugal, seriously I did not want to wake up. The location is great, located in a relatively big city (easy access to grocery store, gas, etc.) and still very close to the Douro River. We ended up buying some of their wine and olive oil. And the free included breakfast.... That was such a great breakfast. Again the service, WOW. In the morning we had an nice walk in the vineyard and had the privilege of being joined by the 3 dogs of the farm. We will cherish this memory for a long time. This review makes no sense because I am still shocked by my experience there. I only wish we could have stayed for more than a day, ideally a few days.... or weeks.... or forever! This 9.9 rating is not deserved, it should be 10/10

The fact that we only stayed one night. I want to go back and stay there forever

Our stay was fabulous. The staff were so friendly, welcoming and hospitable. The breakfast were outstanding and delicious. I was impressed and delighted that my gluten free diet was catered for. The view from our chalet over the vineyards was excellent and we enjoyed sitting on our balcony and taking it all in. The chalet was very well appointed with everything you need to self cater. Thank you for the interesting tour of the museum Beatrice and the wine tasting - your wines are all very good. We loved meeting you all including the dogs - Johnie, Jack, Lucy and Sookie. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone travelling to the Douro Valley.

Everything! The room was a dream, a real house of real people that lived there, so authentic! The team was great, especially the young charming lady that gave us the museum tour. Breakfast wad very good, altough some more vegtables could be great. The port wine they produce is amazing, and the bottles price is low, we bought few to drink at home. Highly recomanded !

Part of old house is squacking floor and bad. We got it with love, part of the deal, but it means that if someone get up in the night to the toilete, its noisy for the light sleepers.

everything. it is a beautiful property. even the drive up to the building is lovely. we had a two bedroom house with living room and large kitchen with a dining table. the space was old and quaint but the bathroom was modern and the house had an ac unit if you need it (we didn’t). there’s a balcony overlooking the vineyard and we sat there with the free port they gave u. the breakfast room is also lovely. there’s a cool wine museum on site. breakfast was plentiful and included home grown fruit, jam and cheese. staff were attentive. we got a goodbye gift of their own wine. totally a stellar stay!
