We really loved this property and the room was very spacious and comfortable. Apparently so well known, there are many signs in town pointing to it! A 16th century home expanded in the 18th century, it is obviously old but with modern conveniences and it is centrally located on a steep cobbled hillside (those folk with wobbly knees, beware!). Delightful sitting rooms, dining areas and even a pool table and games room. There is a swimming pool with a garden surrounded by vines, hydrangeas and fruit trees. The owner Amélia is charming and helpful…brush up on your Portuguese as very little else is spoken here!
The only minor thing - and it really is just a preference - is that breakfast was focused on bread and cakes. Hard boiled eggs, salami, cheese, fruit and local yoghurt were on offer but a cooked protein breakfast would have been appreciated before a long hike/bike ride.

Staying at Casa Das Obras was like staying in someone's personal home and being offered the run of the house! Stunning historic building with many original features and adapted to accommodate 6 guest bedrooms. Bedroom facilities are excellent. There's a games room and TV room and complementary drinks and cakes, plus an extensive breakfast. The pool & garden looked very inviting but unfortunately the weather for us was not favourable. Locally there are many hikes and the countryside is beautiful. Amelia is most welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended.

Everything from the location, to the facilities, the aura of the place and the owner. She really turned this place into a special piece of real estate. A true gem hidden in the mountain. Classy, sofisticated but very true to its cultural heritage. A part from that, the approach is very personalize and the owner really goes beyond to make your stay memorable. It was a last minute reservation to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday, and the owner still made the effort to prepare everything before my arrival so that we could surprise her. The garden by the pool is a fairy tale. Very good love filled homemade breakfast.

What a amazing property – a grand old house with furnishings from the era. We stayed in a double room on the 1st floor of this beautiful house. The bedroom had a large queen size bed and a separate room with seating and a small fridge, plus an ensuite bathroom. Continental breakfast was also included and was an experience to be in the dining room of the house. The communal areas of the house were amazing with several large lounge areas, a billiard room, dining areas, an upstairs balcony overlooking the garden and even a swimming pool. This is such a special property and we wish we could stay longer. Reception is open from 2.00pm for check-in and a guided tour of the house. Parking on the street directly outside the house. We would definitely stay here again.

This is an absolutely stunning place to stay in Manteigas. Amelia is an amazing host and the beautiful mansion has been in her family since the 16th century. Lovely updated rooms and bathrooms with beautiful bedding. The home is full of gorgeous antiques and has an extremely comfortable common living room with complimentary tea, coffee, and cake to enjoy in the afternoon. The breakfast is outstanding with delicious home-baked goods and lovely china. Can not recommend this place enough!!

The house has been in the family since the 17th Century which made this an exceptionally interesting place to stay. We liked the mix of old antiques/ paintings and contemporary paintings by the owner’s brother. The breakfast was delicious with many sweet and savory choices. Playing billiards in this setting was certainly memorable. If the owner had offered a tour of the house with the history of the structure and contents we would have said yes. Also, there was a loud rock music band in the square nearby - we never heard it

It was such a nice stay for three nights. The host is very helpful, welcoming and maintains this family house as an excellent small hotel. It looks like a castle with a library with ancient books, wide stone stairs, authentic rooms. The great location allows to reach waterfalls, picturesque routes by car, bike or on foot. The hotel is close to the tourist bureau where one can get a map and some advice about sightseeings. In Manteigas we can highly recommend a perfect cafe Casa de chá Infusão by a lovely river. When we checked out early morning the host was so kind as to serve us breakfast in the living room besides the fireplace.
Everything was amazing

Casa das Obras is a beautifully restored and maintained manor house full of history and antiques. Amelia is a wonderful host and has done a fantastic job of looking after this piece of history and graciously sharing it with other. The breakfast was delicious and included lots of home baked goods and home made preserves. The room we had was very comfortable and included a modern bathroom. Comfortably heated for the cool rainy December weather. All in all, an extraordinary experience. Parking was available on the street in front of the house.
Nothing but would suggest following street signage rather than GPS to get there

This was an unforgettable experience. The property was like a family home that has been preserved for centuries. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and furnished in the style of the house. The breakfast was wonderful with lots of homemade products. The swimming pool was set in a lovely garden with a beautiful view. Based in the village, this accommodation was a perfect place from which to enjoy walks in the stunning scenery of the national park.
Everything was perfect

The quality of the stay was superb. The house is a gem, with all the original pieces from the family and gorgeous spaces. The breakfast room is like a dream, the china/decoration is so beautiful o overlooking a garden. The food was incredible and abundant. Mrs. Amelia who owns and runs the place brings incredible and delicious special treaties for breakfast from incredible cakes and fruits to gluten-, dairy-, sugar-free pancakes for all tastes. The room we stayed in is from the 16th century and was beautiful, all worked very well. The bed was enormous and comfortable. The shower pressure was very good as well.. It is a hidden gem that brings the stay in Serra da Estrela to another level. ... a special thank you to Mrs. Amalia who is a wonderful person, she brings her beautiful energy to the space, and really cares for all the guests. She was all the time spoiling us and asking if we need something. We felt at home and taken care of. The garden area with the pool is perfect for just an afternoon/evening relaxation time as well, we loved it. We will come back for sure!
