The KJH is in the very middle of Oslo's VERY busy city center. Everything you'll want to access is either walkable or easy to get to by bus or train from the KJH. The hotel is grand, and while it exudes elegance, it's approachable without being overly fussy. Our small, comfortable room was quiet, considering the hustle and bustle of everything going on in the town center. KJH serves a nice breakfast, though there was a bit of frustration with our early departure on our second morning. Apparently, we asked for a breakfast-to-go too late for the kitchen to accommodate; however, two separate front desk staff assured me we'd be taken care of the next morning. Lo and behold, there was nothing ready for us when we left in the early morning for the airport. It wasn't a big deal, but we definitely could have prepared far better had we first been forewarned at check-in or later if we'd been told the kitchen was unable to accommodate our late request. That whole incident was poorly handled by multiple levels of staff and needs better customer service attention so KJH's future guests don't have the same hassle and frustration. Other than that little mishap, the KJH staff was really, really great. I will recommend the KJH to any of my friends and family traveling to Oslo. I'd also like to make a shout-out to a restaurant where we ended up eating four times over two days because it was just so delicious: Spor Av Nord at Tollbugata 7B, Oslo 0152 +47 973 44 010. It's off the beaten path, on the way to the Opera House. We ended up trying nearly everything on their menu. Every dish was a delight!

The hotel was charming and in a brilliant location - close to everything. We walked from Central Station to the hotel but if you have large, heavy bags, it's probably a bit far to do this. The hotel arranged a taxi for us to the train station upon departure. I had pre-booked train tickets return to Central Station but I believe that there may be a train station closer to the hotel. The room was very nice (spacious, bed very comfy) as was the bathroom (extremely spacious and modern). The restaurant for breakfast was huge as was the food selection.

There was no restaurant for dinner on-site but it really didn't matter - there are so many restaurants within walking distance!

Most Positive Experience – A Perfect Stay! This was by far one of the best hotel stays I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful, kind, and attentive, making me feel truly welcome. The room was spotless, beautifully designed. The breakfast was exceptional—fresh, delicious, and with plenty of variety to suit every taste. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was warm, relaxing, and perfectly suited for both leisure and business. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. Everything was perfect for my stay, and I can’t wait to come back again. This hotel is an absolute must-stay!

The location is perfect for exploring the city 10/10. the breakfast is also incredible, you have everything you could ask for. The rooms we had were quiet and you really didn’t hear anything, even tho your in the middle of the city. Loved that!

When we arrived, the staff at the reception was not friendly and helpful at all, they might have had a bad day. When we got our rooms, they didn’t tell us that we were on the other end of the hotel and that we had to take our big suitcases a floor up the stairs because the elevator didn’t go all the way. It would have been nice to know and maybe get some help with our luggage. The next staff at the reception was really nice and friendly. In the rooms we had there was carpet floor, which I don’t like that much.

The property was excellently located to everything. Across the street from the Christmas markets, a short maybe 3 block walk to the ferry and the saunas. The main train station was maybe a 10 min walk with the NationalTheater train maybe a 7 min walk. Tram is also a couple min away. Right on one of the main shopping and restaurant streets. I LOVED the little bar on the mezzanine level. I would go to the front desk and get a couple of glasses of wine, then walk the little staircase behind the desk and my hubs and I would sit at the window and people watch, which was great because the Xmas market was right there.

Loved the hotel. The standard rooms are a little tight, one side of the bed did get an end table, but literally that is the only bad thing I can say about it.

I had a short November stay in Karl Johan with my brother, and we had an amazing experience. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and had everything we needed. The breakfast buffet was incredible, very wide choice of food, from warm and cold dishes to fresh smoothies and waffles. Location is exceptional, you are really in the city center, next to all the main sights, and it is very easily reachable from the airport. When we were there, the Christmas market just opened, and it was literally in front of the hotel, which gave it a very nice and festive atmosphere.

breakfast was very very good, lots of options, plenty available Very interesting workout room and area. Plenty big, kind of hard to access as it is in a section of club with no elevator and feels like you are descending into a dungeon, but it was big, and lots of equipment, large stretch area, well cooled, water, etc. Surprising the size and scope of this compared to the actual hotel rooms

the room was VERY small, I really had no place to leave my suitcase other than up on its side. I realize not much can be done about this, but be prepared for a very tiny room. Bed was comfortable and shower was very nice. Sink in bathoom so small that if you tried to wash your face water spilled all over the floor. Hard for Americans who find fairly spacious rooms in most hotels even less expensive ones.

Location was great. The Christmas Market was, literally, right out the front door. Staff was also very nice.

Hahaha…ok, it’s kind of funny but here goes. It was our anniversary. I ordered a bottle of Champagne for the room. Upon arrival the lady at the front said that there was a problem, they ran out of the champagne I ordered. She said it in front of my wife and the secret was out. I was trying to tell her not to say it, silently, but she kept going. So the cat was out of the bag, she let the secret go in front of my wife. I guess I should’ve made a note that it was our anniversary. It should be noted, there was absolutely no disrespect. I would still go back to this hotel!

Our stay at the Karl Johan Hotel was wonderful. The Christmas market was just across the street, and it was only a short walk to all the major sights of central Oslo. The staff were courteous and kind, with suggestions for dinner and activities. Somehow, the hotel got their best front desk staff to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We enjoyed the market, the Castle grounds, the Cathedral, Karl Johan Gate strolling, the Opera House, the Munch Museum, and great restaurants. Oh, the breakfasts were wonderful!

The only tiny improvement that could have happened is locating all three of our rented rooms next to each other. This was only a minor issue, though.

Sunny side of the street! Fabulous central location on Karl Johan, easy walking distance from Nationaltheatre & T-banen/Flytoget, Aker Brygge, Rådhuset osv. A frantic last minute booking with a discount, and well worth it. The staff were exceptionally kind, helpful and very friendly. Immaculate rooms, super comfy beds, good power shower with toiletries, cosy lighting and best of all very peaceful. Delicious breakfast with a wonderful spread of goodies and juices. Would happily stay there again.

Would be good to have a decent hotel bar - we arrived late (and on a Sunday) so everything was shut elsewhere. Would have loved a proper drink and sandwich or some such thing in the hotel before retiring to our room...
