The hotel is in a convenient location minutes away from the train and bus stops to go sightseeing . Convenience store across the street, and a supermarket within 10 mins walk. Surrounded by cafes and eateries. I knew it was an old building, so was not surprised by the retro style. I was provided a spacious, even by western standards, and clean room (room 401). Comfy beds and pillows but some other people may prefer softer pillows. Enjoyed the tea, coffee and microwave facilities in the common dining area by the hotel reception. Lovely background music in the dining area during the evenings. Attentive staff members are patient with me and helpful despite my language barrier. Overall, it suited my needs for a spacious room as a base to explore Nikko for my family trip.
I read through other reviews before booking, so had lower expectations of the accommodation. I have nothing else to add....

Room was one of the largest we had during our 5 week trip to Japan. Lovely little alcove with Japanese decorations. A sliding Japanese style wall on one side revealed a room where we could sit. Tatami mats. Comfortable beds. All in all, a lovely room.
I'm usually skeptical when I read reviews from other people who talk about the host being rude or unpleasant but in this case those who submitted earlier reviews referring to the 'grumpy old man' were spot on. He really is a grump old man. I suspect he just doesn't like having non-Japanese guests or at least guests who don't speak Japanese. I only know a few words so he made it as difficult as possible for me at checkin, and that included pretended he didn't even know what I was talking about when I resorted to just using the word "English?" when all else failed. It was a totally unpleasant experience whlich detracted entirely from our stay. I let me wife deal with the front desk for the remainder of our stay.

We love Big room, with comfortable futons. Very convenient location as its very near the station, near family mart, and near to the main road with lots of shops. Flexible common hall for making and eating our own food and drinks. Also the hotel operators are helpful and pleasant to the guests.
We cannot really think of any thing major. If anything, we wished there were a few more electrical sockets and maybe USB ports in the future to cater for charging more of our electronics. And maybe the toilet area is a bit narrow and the toilet door can't open all the way.

The hotel is conveniently located just a five-minute walk from the train station, making it incredibly easy to get to and from the hotel. The room was spacious and came with a lovely balcony, offering a nice spot to relax. The hotel also provided a variety of free amenities, which added to the overall comfort and convenience of my stay. The prime location, comfortable room, and thoughtful amenities made for a good stay.
I found it a little odd that the doors are closing and you couldn't go out or get in after 11 PM. You should provide some kind of access for your guests. Also you have to drop your room key at the reception everytime you get out of the building. Another thing that bugged me was the elevator that stopped at every floor. For example if your room is at the 3rd floor it stops at the 1st floor, then the 2nd and ultimately at your floor. Because I had to get back to the room to grab my forgotten hat I almost missed the train.

Spacious, comfortable for a family or a group of friends, clean, very comfortable futon, close to Tobu-Nikko station, a convenience store, a supermarket and a ramen shop that closes late at night The hotel owners were nice. For us, they weren’t mean like what many comments said. Also, the young staff was very kind to us. On the day we checked out at 5.30 AM with our heavy luggage, he let us use the front gate instead of the back gate with steep staircase (The front gate is closed from 11 PM to 7 AM).
The only downside of this hotel is that our room (on the 4th floor) was close by the smoking area and we still smelled the smoke in the entryway area (Genkan) but not in the bedroom area.

The property location is peaceful but central, very near Tobu Nikko Railway Station and Bus Terminal. The room is air-conditioned, large, and in Japanese style. Guests lovely sleep on futons. The toilet and the bathroom are partitioned. Baggage can be deposited at the reception before check-in and after check-out times.
Some standard amenities in Japanese hotels, such as, pajamas or night robe, are surcharged. The elevator stops at every floor. Not being the problem, however, the front door is close during nighttime. Some staffs cannot communicate English at all.

We booked the japanese room. It was super spacious and lovely. You get the same things as in ryokans (except the bath of course) for a third of the times the price. The room was super clean despite being very old. The people at the reception were very nice, they don't talk much but they helped with each of our many requests.
The mattress are a bit thin. I should have padded it with another futon (there were some in the closet). Some equipment like using the water heater is a bit tricky but well explained.

The hotel is conveniently situated near the bus stop and railway station, providing easy access to public transportation. Additionally, there are numerous food shops and grocery stores in the immediate vicinity, catering to guests' daily needs. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, ensuring a pleasant stay for guests.
It is challenging to communicate with the front desk staff due to their limited English proficiency.

Older hotel managed by friendly elderly couple. Room was spacious, bigger than average hotel in Japan, with beautiful well maintained tatami floors. Separate toilet from bathroom. No breakfast is provided on site, but it is easy to find eateries around the area, as the hotel is located directly across from Tobu Nikko Station. Highly recommended
All is good. Older building, but very well maintained. No breakfast provided.

The view is the central attraction, we stayed on the second floor and Fuji is truly RIGHT THERE out your window, breathtaking. The dining room is cozy and homely, and the onsen is very well put together as well
The onsen’s lights were off when I arrived, so it was a bit of a journey to find the light switch (pitch black in there), the heater is a bit archaic and confusing, the instructions weren’t as clear as they could have been, but very minor nit picks
