The Bed, especially the pillows, was extremely comfy. The Room itself was top notch, loved the radio and recorder player in the room. The Amenities, which was housed in a little doll house, was an excellent and thoughtful idea. The breakfast was outstanding, one of the best meals in York we had. The Pantry is such a unique idea. The WiFi was strong even in the far reaches of the hotel. The staff was friendly and approachable, especially the lady in the morning/early afternoon who welcoming, understanding and always had a positive attitude.
The Pantry needed some other drinks perhaps a small bottle of water. Our room had a little mold in the shower near the hair products, Plug in the bath, had hair tied around it from previous guest- a little watch out and just a minor blimp in an otherwise 5* stay.

We had a very nice experience staying here. The hotel's location is in close proximity to the center of town. An easy walk. They also have a gated parking lot if you have a car. The staff was kind and the room was charming. Who else offers a portable turntable in your room with vinyl records at your disposal? What a fun perk! They have two lovely rooms where one can sit and enjoy afternoon tea or a cocktail. The adjoining restaurant, Pearly Cow, was also a nice experience. Warm cozy ambience in the evening and good food and drinks. I would definitely return and do recommend!
No complaints really.

Location, just out of walled city, convenient to walk in to city or car trips out of city. Bedroom well appointed and comfortable bed. Room could have been a tadge too small bigger. Staff very friendly and helpful. (Free) pantry always well stocked. Lovely breakfast.
Car parking a bit expensive, but that is York! A warning about number of stairs should be made. A bit tough for people with mobility problems. Too many pre visit “looking forward to seeing you” emails. I missed an important message about location of car park, which would have saved about 45 mins of going up and down the main road through a 4 way road restriction!

Gorgeous victorian themed hotel. Stayed 4 nights to celebrate my 50th and wanted somewhere special that was dog friendly. Just me and the dog. The whole trip was one of the best I have been on but the hotel just added to that. Staff were very friendly and loved Oscar who had all the guests enamered with him also as he's just happy to sit quietly and relax. Room I wouldn't quite say is to my taste, but lovely big and comfortable 4 poster and large room. I was at the back so very quiet at night also. Loved the free pantry in the corridor lots of snacks and drinks. Had two nights in the pearly cow. Pan fried chicken 1st night was gorgeous came on a bed of peas with pancetta and sauce. I don't like peas much but ate the whole lot it was so tasty as was the chicken and normally chicken is quite bland. Fillet steak second time and best steak had in long time. First night was allowed dog in main area as wasn't busy. Second time was in lounge but others had dogs as well so wasn't in there alone. Dogs allowed in main restaurant for breakfast which again was lovely food. Nice relaxing bar area with its quirky train that runs round the room, and also lounge as mentioned with good cocktails and recommend the pino-noir.. Very close to centre so short stroll to other restaurants etc. Walk out the back of hotel and again its a short stroll to river walks where you can walk miles. Didn't use the spa area but looked very nice. Would I stay there again? Without a doubt.
Nothing not to like. As feedback though please get some decent ironing boards they are awful might as well have done it on floor. The bedroom windows in room 10 could do with opening a few more inches.

I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels before but this has to be my favourite. I came here for my husbands birthday and they even left him a little treat in our room. I’m pregnant and they were aware of this as I’d booked a pregnancy massage. They’d supplied extra pillows in the room for me and offered to swap out the toiletries for pregnancy safe products - it’s these little touches that made the trip feel so special. The pantry is an excellent touch and we loved details like relaxing music playing when we entered the room, as well as the concierge taking our bags to our room for us before we had checked in. The bed was super comfortable and the room constantly smelt like a spa. On that note we both had a massage at the guesthouse. The spa facilities are gorgeous and relaxing and the team at the spa are skilled and really listen to what you want. Thank you so much, we hope to come back soon!

Great location, extremely clean, newly refurbished. The bed was really comfortable lovely bed linen and duvet etc. Besides Saturday night, the room was quiet and dark with the blackout curtains and I slept very well. Nice super king size bed. The full size products in the bathrooms smelled gorgeous and much easier to use compared to the miniatures in most hotel rooms. Good communication from the hotel on booking the spa and pearly cow in advance to avoid disappointment etc. We were on our honeymoon and booked a standard double room but we were upgraded to a large double which was greatly appreciated. We had a couples massage at the spa with afternoon tea which was throughly enjoyable.

Stunning property a lovely walk away from the inner parts of york (20 minutes), We had three rooms for our party, small guest room (was literally a double bed and a bathroom...but perfect for our boys), one double (very nice) and double +1 which was lovely and spacious, bathroom was disabled friendly, which had it's quirks (see below) but necessary for special requests. Breakfast was amazing in the Pearly Cow restaurant (where we also had a fantastic dinner). The record players are a lovely feature (though some of the records have seen abuse by those that probably never had to gently drop a needle before) as is the doll house-coffee machine. The pantry was a winner as well
The bathroom was set up for disabled, which is perfectly fine, but had we known about it beforehands we would have arranged the rooms differently as I am almost 2m tall and i wasn't really able to stand upright in the shower ... and the small and low sink for those in wheelchairs wasn't too comfortable for me to use either

The building and decor is beautiful and so stylish. It feels like a more relaxed yet high-end hotel, with lots of lovely sitting areas with games etc. The cocktail bar is absolutely gorgeous with great, friendly service and delicious drinks. The location is a little bit out the centre but that’s actually ideal – York is a little city so everything is still walkable in about 20 mins, and you can explore more that way. The room was spacious and well-equipped with original features beautifully restored. There’s also a little pantry room with complimentary snacks, soft drinks, sweeties and even ice cream which is a really nice touch! There’s a spa too which we didn’t get time to check out but I imagine it would be great. We didn’t dine in the restaurant other than one breakfast but the food was good and the decor was gorgeous!! We would 100% stay again, and would be tempted to try other hotels from the same group. It’s also dog friendly which is a huge plus! We don’t have a dog but my family do, and usually such nice hotels don’t allow dogs, so I think that’s a really nice plus as York is a very dog-friendly city.
I’d say it’s a little on the pricy side compared to the rest of York, however I do think you get what you pay for. I do think the room rate should include maybe a continental breakfast? Breakfast was an additional £20 per person and though it was nice, and I believe you could order as much as you wanted, there are so many great breakfast, coffee and brunch spots in York that I’d probably look elsewhere were we to stay again.

The building is beautiful — both exterior and interior. Location is perfect (close to the sights + easy to get to the station, but not too noisy or touristy) Staff was friendly. Restaurant was good. Nice pantry concept where you could get snacks (sadly, the door on the freezer had been left slightly open so ice creams were melted). It seemed like there was good air conditioning, which wasn't that big of a deal for us but could be great during a hot summer day. Brompton's that guests could borrow were fun to use, but regular bikes might have been slightly better (given the condition of the roads around York).
Our room was located off of the restaurant, which wasn't ideal for noise (it was a bank holiday weekend, so I believe they were quite full). But most of the time it wasn't an issue. The automatic light sensor near the mini bar was a bit overly sensitive.

Check in was nice and easy and our baggage being picked up from the Station was such a great idea. It was lovely to have messages before we turned up regarding bedding and luggage and any questions regarding local pubs etc were answered with ease. Our room was Lovely, could do with a set a drawers next to the wardrobe for underwear etc. to save living out of our suitcase for 4 nights. Breakfast was lovely and the staff at Breakfast were Superb. What a Wonderful bunch of people you have, they made our time at the hotel very enjoyable.
Our only constructive criticism would be that a set of drawers are needed in the room and maybe the heating should have been turned up for our arrival as the room was chilly for the first couple of days.
