Chris, the owner, is very personable, kind and helpful, as are his partner and staff. He is wonderful to talk to about South African history and culture, having lived there much of his life. He’s full of interesting stories and is also a wonderful chef. He cooks everything but is especially proficient at vegan and vegetarian fare. The bathroom and furnishings in my room were perhaps a bit dated, but otherwise comfortable. The garden is beautiful, filled with animal sculptures made of metal, wire and beads, and the pool is lovely, though small and very cold. Roger the cat is delightful. I had a wonderful stay! The owner and his team were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, making me feel right at home. They were especially thoughtful in accommodating my vegan diet, preparing delicious and wonderful meals tailored just for me. The guest grounds are stunningly beautiful, and my room was excellent—comfortable, cozy, and immaculately clean. The location is fantastic, just minutes from shopping and great restaurants, nestled in a safe and charming walkable neighborhood. I loved my experience so much that I plan to stay here for all my future visits. Highly recommend!

This was my second time at the lovely guesthouse of Chris and his wonderful team! They all make you feel like you are at home. The guesthouse is located idyllically amidst much greenery, and going for a run was awesome as the area is really nice and also green. It is also located near many of the attractive sites/places in Johannesburg. The guesthouse is tastefully furbished and has a wonderful garden and a pool. Chris is an outstanding cook! You can ask him to cook dinner (and lunch), and he does so with great flexibility and according to your wishes. Breakfast is amazing, too. They offer excellent coffee.

The location was perfect for our overnight stay, and very comfortable ! The guest house is beautiful. Chris was a very attentive host, the breakfast was very good.

I would have liked a bit more “attention to detail” touches, perhaps earbuds and shower cap etc in the bathroom? If you have an “ honesty bar”, put in a couple of little bottles of wine or beers in the fridge? Your pool area is perfect for a nice sundowner! Absolutely everything about this accommodation is amazing. Chris, Robyn and the staff are incredibly attentive and kind. They truly make the place what it is. Outstanding hospitality (best we have had). Facilities are clean and tastefully decorated. Food.. Just Wowwww! Breakfast and dinner were a treat. The pool is beautifully located and clean. The rooms are spacious and the bed super comfortable. The house is in a quiet and safe location, 25 min from airport. This place is a must. Don't hesitate to book. We wish we had stayed longer than 1 night.

The Highgrove Guest House is a gorgeous place to stay! Small-scale, comfortable, calm, and luxurious in the best thinkable way. Chris is the unprecedented host, like your favorite uncle! Meeting up by the airport upon arrival, serving marvelous sour-dough toast when we had arrived to the guest house, serving delicious breakfasts, cooking excellent dinner only for my wife and me, driving us to the rental car pick-up, and following up and caring over Whats App several days after we left Johannesburg. Just overall an amazing experience. The breakfast and dinner was superb. Room service was excellent and very thorough. I was able to check-in much earlier in the early hours of the day, Chris received me personally and I felt he was always there – always up for a chat and to share his experiences and information about the area and the country in general. The house is just a beautiful oasis in a very beautiful and green suburb. If you just want to spend a quiet and peaceful time, that's the place to go. I would come back anytime. I would rate them 11/10 if I could.

Everything was perfect!

Chris was very helpful and accommodating. He cooked a delightful dinner for us (unapt oddly as I had assumed he would recommend a restaurant) and the breakfast was delicious and bountiful.

I had not understood that we would be so far away from downtown. But it didn't matter. We were there to recover from a long airplane journey and this locale was perfect. Also, I was provided with detailed maps as to where it was safe to walk and where NOT to go.

Staying at Highgrove guesthouse felt like a cosy extension of our own home. Chris and Ally, the hosts, went above and beyond with their warm hospitality and eagerness to assist with anything we needed. Each morning, we enjoyed a delightful breakfast on the terrace, surrounded by the stunning gardens. And if you needed an evening meal, Chris always rustled up something that was just what you didn't know you wanted. I will definitely be staying there again when I am next in Johannesburg.

An outstanding place in so many ways! Chris, Allyson and the other staff were at all times extremly kind, cooperative and made everything always possible, Chris is also a wonderful (and actually trained) cook. The Guesthouse has a lovely atmosphere, with a lovely garden and swimming pool, one very quickly feels totally at home there. The rooms are spacious, and so is the bathroom, the location itself is beautiful (for a walk or a run), it is a very green residential area with large mansions and in an overall beautiful setting. It is around 10 min. by Uber to downtown Sandton (the Sandton Mall), so the action is also close by. Overall I am really grateful I found this place, where I ended up prologing my stay twice.
